Beautiful video Mary, Lynn and Cheryl!!!  Yes it is so sad when people dump living, sentient beings the way they do.  I am so glad Millie and Shadow got rescued

Love and big hugs.

Mary, I too had tears in my eyes at the end of that beautiful video. What amazing people rescued both dogs and Millie is a heroine. The way she kissed Shadow and prodded him with her paw, as if to say, "It's alright. These people won't hurt you."

It breaks my heart that so many dogs and cats are in the streets, having to forage for themselves. At least these two were lucky enough to be saved. Thank you so much, Mary dear, for posting this amazing video.

Oh Mary, I had big tears at the end of this video. Millie is such a beautiful dog on the inside and I would adopt her in a moment! And wee Shadow... to think he had never been touched by human hands and hearts. The way Millie encouraged him was so touching. How could anyone NOT love these beautiful dogs?!

Thank you so much, sister, for this video. I'm glad I looked at it just before I go to bed because it leaves a wonderful feeling in me.

Hi Danuta - it's nice to see you!

Hi Barb, Mary, Lynn and everyone.   I missed seeing these because I was away for some time.

The little bird landing on Josh Williams' quitar means something different to me. Birds, hummingbirds, dragonflies, ladybugs, and such are often a message from someone 'on the other side' - simply saying, "hi" or making you feel they are around you. This 'happening' to Josh was very special, and I love the way he treated the wee bird; he didn't flap his arms as if it was going to bite him like some people would if they hadn't been around wildlife or didn't have such a loving nature as he has. Lovely! Thanks, Lynn.

Barb, I love your story about you tending to the little bird. It was meant that you were around at that time to care for him. That was a very special encounter for him too!!

The baby ducks in the swimming pool was such a great story to watch. Poor mom didn't know what to do and I kept leaning to my right or to my left as they swam. LOL I was so happy to see how smart they were, especially the first little one who discovered a way out. What a wonderful story.

Mary -- I AM A MOOSE TOO! That's so neat! Thanks for the quiz. It makes one think!

Lynn, the videos with the dogs and the dog and lion were funny. I think that lion cub and dog have been together for some time -- but the lion will get bigger and more mature and I'm not sure having the dog there would be such a good idea. Then again, they seem to like each other's company and the lion may miss a companion if the dog was removed. I just don't know what the answer is! Great video though!

Thanks everyone.

Last time I emailed you our top 3 dog videos of 2011. My readers loved them so much, I wanted to send you 3 more. I hope you like them as much as we did!

This video is really crazy. A dog and a tiger play together as buddies. What do you think about these unusual playmates? (I'm not sure how I feel about it, but it sure is interesting.)

Dog and Tiger Are Friends

Here's another odd couple for you. These two give a new meaning to "opposites attract."

Does this remind you of your dog? Some dogs just need to be the center of attention, like this little cutie.

Baby ducks being rescued from a swimming pool....so cute!

Barb, I don't think the bird was stunned. If you look carefully, you'll see that the bird's little head looks up at Josh every now and then as if to show that he's enjoying the music. It was so adorable and only flew away when the song was over. I was amazed!

What a sweet story about you and the bird. I think you helped him recover so that he was fine by the time he flew off on to the branch of the tree. Talking to him helped. You were so good to do that. All creatures respond to quiet talking. Lovely, sis.

Wow Lynn the little bird let Josh pet him!  I wonder if the bird got stunned, because wild birds don't normally let you pet them unless they  have been stunned.

I picked up a cow bird off the porch with gloves on my hands.  He hit my Mom's window a few years ago.  He was very stunned and his mouth was stuck open.  But then I petted him and talked to him as he sat in my gloved hand.  He closed his mouth and just stayed in my hand for about a half an hour, maybe more.  NOw and then I would wave my hand slowly infront of his eyes to see if he was getting better.  Finally he saw me do that and he flew to a tree branch and sat there for about 20 minutes before he took off.  I enjoyed this encounter and was happy to help the bird get well.

Awwwwwww, Barb, these little fellas are SO ADORABLE! The teeny weeny little hands and feet - so perfect!

I have always loved little mice and hamsters (as long as they're not running wild in my house). I love Christmas pictures with little mice curled up with other animals, or any animated pictures - blowing out candles, sleeping in a cozy bed and such.

Thanks for these, Barb.

I saw it out of the corner of my eye after I watched the main video you posted.

He sure is just like a human baby who needs his mama. I love the way she plays with him near the end. Watching both videos just makes one want to fight for their survival all the more!

Aw Cheryl, that is so sweet. The baby gorilla actually reminds me of a human baby cautiously taking his first steps while the mama looks on anxiously and extends her hand to help. Thanks for posting that. I had no idea that it was part of the video that I posted.

This video showing the first steps of a baby gorilla was on the same 'page' as the Gorilla link you posted, Lynn. I just had to post it as well. Look at the hands and attitude of the mama - just like ours with our babies. So beautiful!

Oh wow, Mary, VERY POWERFUL videos! That little boxer so happily subjected himself to the cows' investigation, and the cows' curiosity of him is something I've never seen before. I think one of them may have adopted him if it had been needed. lol He was the same colour as one of them. WONDERFUL VIDEO.

EDIE -- well I sure bawled like a baby! What a beautiful, kind, loving little dog that no one seemed to have loved before his rescuers got her. What a wonderful man who has the gift of perfect compassion that works like 'magic'. She finally showed exactly who she was in his hands. I am humbled by seeing such loving acts, which saved the life of this sweet little girl.

Thanks so much, Mary. These are embedded in my brain as 'GOOD' things that happened in the world one day.

Watch this amazing chance encounter with a troop of wild mountain gorillas near Bwindi National Park, Uganda.  Be patient for the first minute of the video, which is an introduction to the footage you’re about to see.   It’s well worth the wait…I promise you’ve never seen anything like this.

No doubt about it, Lynn, this video is really something! Did she say the elephant was 72 years old?? One can't help but see the wounds she has encountered in her life, and that she isn't in the peak of health, but oh my, isn't she enjoying herself now in this sanctuary?

What a beautiful young woman and she surely is a talented sculptor. I really enjoyed the video.

The eles listening to the music are so cute. Music is played to cattle to calm them, and I imagine it has the same effect on elephants and other animals. It's the vibrations they get from the music that effect the "calming" parts of our brains.

It's always wonderful to see eles that have been rescued from servitude and abuse gain their freedom and wander where they want as well as have the company of other eles.

Thanks, Lynn. VERY enjoyable videos.

dd It snowed here last night!! We didn't get any last year so it was extra exciting and beautiful. I turned off the lights in the living room about 10:00 p.m. and just had the outdoor lights on to show the HUGE flakes coming down. I felt like singing Christmas carols. lol

This isn't a video but I find these neat little gifs around that are well put together. I would bet this dog has had experience with snow before because he knows just how to ski -- his way!

dd

And this video of the bear waving back to the woman IS REAL! It happened here in BC about a month or so ago and was on the news. Can you believe it? The woman was astounded -- it was just meant to be a gesture as she and her husband were driving by and she certainly didn't expect the response.

I missed a week of good things here... Lynn, I love the yellow lab too. They are such affectionate, loving, loyal dogs and I'm glad to hear Steve and Alicia have one to make them smile! (And Bentley as well)

Great cartoon for people who feed their dogs under the table (a-hem, can't say I've never done that!)

Oh boy, Lynn, the little girl and the dog howling is sooo funny. The big secret is out as to how to make kids stop crying!

And Mary, I laughed all the way through that kitten "with the scary thing." It's a wonder we didn't hear a lot of laughing while the video was being made. Even watching funny videos of animals can bring our blood pressure down!

Thanks for the fun, sisters. Hi Barb. Glad you're here too!

Geez, Lynn, for some reason I can't see the video or picture. In fact, there are quite a few pictures on the thread that just have the dreaded red X in the top left corner. Fallen Baby Blue Jays Get Emergency Nest In Hanging Basket

148 comments Fallen Baby Blue Jays Get Emergency Nest In Hanging Basket

Written by Angela Norton of Michigan

One day my husband tried to take down a bird’s nest that was partly connected to our electrical wiring on the outside of our house, fearing it could cause a fire or a short. He knocked down the overhead nest with a long handled rake, and to our dismay, found it had four baby blue jays in it.

We Had to Do Something Quickly

We didn’t quite know what to do but knew we had to do something quickly so I found a basket in the basement and put some spanish moss in it. Then we put the blue jay nest (with the babies in it) in the basket and hung the basket in the tree in the front yard where the babies’ parents could get to it. They were chirping quite loudly so it didn’t take long for the parents to find them.

The parents of the babies were squawking raucously at first but then settled down to feed and care for the babies. They stayed in the basket nest for about two weeks, then they started leaving the nest and walking up the branches of the tree. Pretty soon all the babies had left the nest and were starting their first flights. We were pretty happy with the outcome. The babies (now grown) still hang out in the tree and feed from our bird feeders in the front yard.   See more photos of the baby blue jays in their basket.

The World's Ugliest Dog!

We're all beautiful in our own way. But recently in California, a contest was held to find the World's Ugliest Dog!

Lots of dog owners entered their "ugly dogs" in the competition, but the 2011 trophy went to a dog by the name of "Yoda".  A former stray, she was found behind an apartment building by her current owner - who mistook her for a rat!

Check out Yoda and her trophy.

Have a great day!

Until next time,

P.S. This video really made me smile.  This little pug is having a blast playing around in the tub.  Take a look.

Hi Lynn, Mary, and Barbara. The Christian story is so amazing and I also got tears in my eyes. It shows that there actually are little "garden of edens" in the world, and that was one of them. It was so heartwarming as well to see him with his Lady and their cub. He looked completely happy.

Lynn, those monkeys look like little aliens from another world. The one grinning into the camera is so funny! I could swear there's a human in there!

Thanks so much for the Christian video (I had seen the first part before but had not seen the rest of it) and the monkeys. I guess they aren't afraid of humans because they haven't run into any of the mean and nasty ones and I sure hope they never do.

More on the Macaque monkeys taking pictures
3 years ago

As the infinite monkey theorem has it, a monkey hitting random keys on a typewriter will eventually produce the complete works of Shakespeare. Now it seems that a monkey clicking away with a digital camera will eventually produce portraits of startling beauty.

The pictures here were taken not by a wildlife photographer but by one of a group of crested black macaques in a national park in Indonesia.

Photographer David Slater, 46, was visiting the park when he decided to try to get close to the animals. He teamed up with a local guide and over three days got to know the creatures. "I walked with them for about three days in a row," said Slater. "They befriended us and showed absolutely no aggression – they were just interested in the things I was carrying," he said.

"They aren't known for being particularly clever like chimps, just inquisitive. Despite probably never having any contact with humans before, they didn't seem to feel threatened by our presence."

Slater said the photoshoot that resulted in these pictures took place after he set up a camera on a tripod. He left the equipment for a few moments and when he returned one of the creatures was, well, monkeying around with it.

"They were quite mischievous, jumping all over my equipment. One hit the button. The sound got his attention and he kept pressing it. At first it scared the rest of them away but they soon came back – it was amazing to watch.

"At first there was a lot of grimacing with their teeth showing." But then the animals seemed to settle down.

"He must have taken hundreds of pictures by the time I got my camera back."

And with just a little imagination, you could imagine that some of the monkeys were running through a series of poses.

The crested black macaque is a threatened species that lives in the northeast of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and smaller neighbouring islands. It spends more than half of its day on the ground foraging for food and socialising and tends to live in groups of between five and 25 animals.

The authenticity of the images was questioned on Twitter but Slater says they are genuine. "They do look strange anyway because of their punk hairdo and their reddish eyes."

Mary, I remember seeing a documentary on tv showing the two men with Christian after they brought him home and a record of the year he was with them in their home. It was a loving "family" because Christian thought he was one of them. I guess he was, but after a year of not seeing them after they gave him to the reserve, and to see his face when he recognized his two guardians from when he was a cub was just so heartwarming that I got tears in my eyes. And the "hug" at the end....oh, so sweet.

isn't this amazing he remembered them i love the hug in the end

In 1969 a young Australian, John Rendall and his friend Ace Bourke, bought a small lion cub from Harrods pet department, which was then legal. 'Christian' was kept in the basement of a furniture shop on the Kings Road in Chelsea, the heart of the swinging sixties. Loved by all, the affectionate cub ate in a local restaurant, played in a nearby graveyard, but was growing fast...

A chance encounter with Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna led to a new life for Christian. He came to live in a huge enclosure and to sleep in a caravan at their Surrey home. Then in 1971 he was flown to Kenya, his ancestral home, and returned to the wild by lion-man George Adamson. Nine months later in 1972, John and Ace returned to Kora in Kenya. This clip is of their reunion at that time.

It was an emotional reunion: "He ran towards us, threw himself onto us, knocked us over and hugged us, with his paws on our shoulders."

John Rendall

Hi Mary and Lynn. I'm so glad you got to see this incredible video. I have a collection too, Lynn, and as you can see from my profile page I have a great love for them and have followed a number of the arrivals at the Tennessee Sanctuary. They've all been very exciting and when many watched together we kind of went nuts when a new girl arrived. I think of the one poor fellow, Ned, who got there too late to be helped.

I love all animals, but elephants have my heart (I have an elephant collection in my home, from the normal trunk up stance, to the whimsical).  They are particularly caring about each other and take care of their young until adulthood and beyond.

This video just shows how they band together when there is a crisis. They save each other and mourn when one of them dies. They are amazing animals. Thanks so much for bringing us this post, Cheryl.

Not only did a beautiful dog find an amazing home and friends, and an orangutan find amazing and loving new friends, but the elephant (I am happy to see) looks well taken care of and happy too.

Thank you so very much, Jo, for this absolutely amazingly video. This playful, curious, intelligent, loving, trusting - even a bit flirty seal - and the young woman - is a lesson in what human-animal interaction should be.

It's amazing how many animals become like guardian angels to help humans who are unable to help themselves. God bless them!

hiHi Jo! I'm so happy you dropped in, and the video is so cute! Don't you wish you could walk through a forest and come up them all doing that?! Thanks for posting this.

Well you certainly have your hands full taking care of a 2 year old. baby heehee. When you get a chance, please let us know some of your experiences. It will take me back in time, but I have vague memories of how tired I got at times. But a lot of fun too!

Take good care of yourself.

Animals that rescue and save people certainly have to be guided by Guardian Angels!
