Elephant Stuff #4 got a bit long, so here's #5 to share all of your great but sometimes sad, news about elephants.
Here is the link to thread #4 for those of you who didn't read through the whole thing....
Just went to the BBP website to check if there were any Sunder updates and they have been hacked. Apparently I have been cursed by a DEMON, quickly closed the link before reading the rest of the ominous warning. No antivirus warnings though. Getting offline now to run tons of malware scans on the computer. Crap, and it isn't even Friday the 13th!
Christian, thank you so much for that beautiful video of the woman singing to the elephant. It's so poignant and soothing to watch the ele relaxing under the spell of the woman's song. Sorry I couldn't transfer the video itself. I could only get the link to paste.
Sue thanks for the information about the Sundar site. Why do people become hackers except to frustrate other people's lives? Is it fun for them? I guess my questions are rhetorical because no one has the answer.
Lynn, reading that really put me in a foul mood. It sounds like an extremely childish thing to do and if I actually believed in demons would have been terrified. Luckily I don't believe in them, only in really evil humans, hackers are really evil and I wish I knew computer code and could track them down and infect their computers with a malware that would completely wipe their computers out!.
The BBP is short for the Bannerghatta Biological Park where the WRRC is. That website has been up for many years and obviously they do not have the site secured enough. Luckily no malware or viruses were downloaded to the computer. But I took the day off yesterday as I was still so angry about reading that crap. There was a really disturbing trend on twitter telling that Peta India has removed the charges of abuse against the previous owner of Sunder and the mahouts he hired. However I could not find any actual proof that had happened and am still unable to verify if that is true. Possibly that is why the BBP site was hacked. Who knows, you would have to have an evil brain to understand why those bad things happen.
Here is a very happy story about an orphaned baby elephant adopted and raised by a herd of buffalo. The second article has more photos and a longer story. The first link has a much bigger and beautiful photo.
Here is a petition to stop NBC using trained elephants to do tricks on live TV, what an awful thing to do.
signed Sue thanks for the happier storys too thanks Christian for your wonderful post
Christian - great video and nice to see you here -
Lynn - thanks for the new thread - I think sometimes the hackers - especially young - are daring each other or just having fun - want to see if they can really do it - but that is SICK!
Sue - sorry you were affected so much and glad nothing terrible got downloaded - love the videos and signed and shared -thanks,
Mary - HELLO!
hello Val just found another horrible story please sign hi Sue and Christian http://www.thepetitionsite.com/113/767/309/close-htwt-fire-elephant-handlers-trainers-for-beating-and-abusing-the-animal/?taf_id=11773182&cid=fb_na#sign
Signed the petition Mary, I'd love to see the elephants and people change places and the eles get to beat the chained humans who do not behave the way they want them to, instant Karma.
me too Sue
Signed the last 2 petitions, here is a happy video. Sunder has his first bath in his new home.
Here is Peta India's latest post on Sunder. New lovely photos showing a happy Sunder.
signed Val thanks Sue we need some good news
Thank you Lynn for starting a new thread. You have been doing a marvelous job of opening threads and you are appreciated!
Christian - wow, that video was something I will always remember. Thank you so much for posting it. She (Lek) has an amazingly comforting voice - perfect for singing a lullaby - and I truly think she is a real Elephant Whisperer. Most elephants have another elephant watch over them when they lay down, but this beauty (Faa Mai) was so comfortable with this beautiful woman that s/he not only lay down, but snored contentedly! I've never seen anything like this before. I had to take a few screenshots:
The world needs many more people like Lek. God bless her!
Sue - I sure hope you didn't get any virusus. I suppose these hackers get some kind of narcissistic pleasure harming people this way. It's their "bomb" to blow up people, just like we see others with guns cause hellish mayhem. I hope you have recovered... don't give "them" the satisfaction of causing you misery; it's just what they want.
I HOPE and PRAY the charges haven't been dropped against previous owner. That's disgusting, if true. Poor Sunder is stil suffering from the wounds of abuse, probably mentally as well as physically. If no justice happens, he may very well just go out and get another elephant! SO HAPPY HE'S FINALLY IN HIS NEW, SAFE HOME!
I had to take some screenshots of SUNDER. You've done a wonderful job of keeping track of what's been happening to him. How beautiful he is, and he looks willing and able to become a part of the family of eles there. I love the bath. He looks like he's enjoying it so much!
The story of the buffalo adopting a baby elephant is amazing. How willing many animals are to take in a creature who is really not "one of their own." I've never seen this before... and if I were one of those buffalo, I wouldn't mind having the big fella around for protection! Sounds like he believes he is one of them, even taking on their mannerisms, etc. A real amazing story.
I signed petition. I saw a clip of the elephant brought on stage with Jimmy Fallon. I was disgusted, especially when Fallon was handed a banana and said, "Should I feed it?" "IT"???? The elephant was treated like an IT.
Mary - thanks for petitions. I signed them. It is so hard to believe any human can do these things. They probably all are psychopaths who have no remorse or a conscience for any living being.
Val - I signed petition. Other people who show no remorse are those who buy the intricate ivory carvings from the chinese (mainly) who sculp and sell them. Who buys them, other that rich chinese? The answer: many ignorant people all over the world. We need to get to them!
Lynn - seeing those chains makes me sick. Stupid people are leasing elephants for their kids' birthday parties, and such. Again, the elephants are only thought of as "ITs" - feed it candy, ride it, use it, then send it back to cruel people.
Here are a few pics to make everyone smile:
"This is how you eat it, son, and afterwards you can play with it and carry it around with you."
"But I don't want to go for a nap!"
That's a very disturbing video Lynn, I had signed the petition earlier in the month, surely it cannot be long before all wild animals are banned from circuses. Cruelty like that shown in the video should be illegal and punishable by long jail sentences.
Cheryl, did read something Peta India left a link to on a twitter feed about previously abused elephants that obviously have PTSD suddenly going on rampages. Seems anything can set them off and that is why Sunder is still loosely restrained and closely watched to make sure he is not going to react badly to anything in his new home. Sadly it does take a long time to come to terms with past abuse and to learn to trust the new people around you. It was so lovely to see the video of Sunder in the water, was wondering if that was the first time he had had that experience. He surely was having a glorious time.
Searching for elephant rampage on you tube brings up tons of videos so the problem exists in both wild and captive elephants. My heart goes out to them as they all have a lot to be angry about given the way humans treat them most of the time. We seem to want all the land for ourselves and are unwilling to give the animals the space they need to survive.
Thanks a million for the baby elephant photos, nothing brings a smile like looking at baby elephants having fun.
Very short update about Sunder from the Times of India.
If you're wondering what Ragi Balls are, here is the recipe and background info. Not so sure I could swallow without chewing though, but it is a great vegan recipe and has many health benefits.
Here are the health benefits of ragi balls
Thanks for all the good news - Sue the dancing baby is so cute
And Cheryl - the one not wanting to take a nap in the mud is funny -
Lynn and Cheryl also - thanks for the updates and info - why can't we have circuses like we have in the smaller towns - clowns, trapeze, juggling, etc,etc no animals - oh - that would take talent???
signed Lynn thanks for the update Sue hi Val and Cheryl
Beethoven for Elephants - that is great Cheryl!
Nothing cuter than a baby elephant......
Another short article about Sunder and his ability to learn another language. What a star he is.
Missed this. A new Peta India blog post about Sunder and Lakshmi sharing a dip in the pool. It is so good to see Sunder having fun with a friend.
Sue, thanks so much for all the WONDERFUL videos. The dancing baby is pure joy to watch. You're sure right about these good sights bringing a smile to our face -- and joy to our hearts, too! I watched them all and then some... a few that appeared after the main video finished. Do you notice the way you feel after watching these happy and funny animal videos? Good, right? There are amazing things happening in one's body when we feel this joy and experience laughter over such heartfelt scenes. They often bring happy tears to my cheeks and I'm sure I'm not the only one!
Also so good to see Sunder thriving and experiencing many new happy things. About the rampages, I watched about 10 different videos quite some time ago... over and over again. I tried to see what was happening just before and when each one first started, etc. Of course it was awful to see innocent people hurt, but I had a strange, unemotional feeling when it seemed to be the handler who got hurt/killed. Perhaps some karma was involved? Who knows, but I think the elephants just got to the point of enough is enough. Abuse, pain, anger, seeing a sister elephant get abused.... something triggered it, and mankind was the 'gun'.
The ragi balls are interesting... maybe not yummy, but interesting. lol Obviously very healthy. I'm not sure I could just swallow without chewing though. Somehow the word 'ragi' reminded me of Scooby Do. Why is that?
Val, you have a good point about a new kind of circus. The tents and rides and acrobats, costumes, etc. would be fun to see, especially for kids. I remember being put on the back of a poor little mule who went round and round in a circle with other mules. They did that all day long, can you imagine?
Mary, that is one of my favourite pieces of classical music, although I don't recognize any classicals by name except Pachel by Canon or vice versa. I'm going to be putting a few things on the Meditation thread about the vibrations from earth/music/chimes/, etc. and how they affect our body, and this man's playing the piano to those blind elephants would most likely have a wonderful affect on them. The woman who sang the lullaby to the elephant (in the article above) is a good example of this. It was a strong desire in this man's heart to do. Thanks for great article/video.
Thanks again, Sue, Mary, Val, Lynn, and all who post here.
"Come on, junior."
"Wait up, mom.... eeeoowwwww... monster coming!!"

How did we all miss this? The incredible story about Raju's rescue. The first video has all the main info of Raju's rescue. Cried buckets watching this, but the ending is truly blissful. How cruel and inhumane some humans can be.
This one shows the spiked chain being removed and Raju happy after
Here is a link to the charity's Facebook page with lots more info, many posts and links tell the complete story.
Here is a link to some photos of the rescue
Here's an urgent petition to stop the ivory trade in Thailand

Here is a little Sunder update,
Another good news article, India is getting serious about protecting their elephants from being killed by trains
Cheryl, just noticed I didn't reply to your post early last week. We have had so many thunderstorms recently that I have had to repeatedly shut down the computer and of course completely forget what I was doing when firing it up again.
You were talking about the elephants who go on rampages, and a thought occurred to me that they are made to walk on the hot tarmac and roads in their bare feet. Just imagine how much it must hurt them to do that. I'm almost certain that that must have something to do with why they can suddenly go berserk (spelling?). My feet got burned so many times back in the hippy era!
We used to go to the seaside as kids and the donkey rides were not in a circle, just 30 feet or so and then turn around and go back. Never saw those donkeys get a drink the whole day long!
With all the bad news we hear on a daily basis it is important to post as many happy stories and videos as we can to help keep us all sane!
Today is turning into elephant day. Here are 2 more petitions.
Here is a video of a saved baby elephant
Found all those links on this site
