Meet Desert Fox – Quite Possibly The Most Photogenic Resident Of Sahara…

Just a couple of days ago I shared an incredible image of Pudding — a “resident Fox” at the National Fox Welfare Society — and was pretty sure that he must be the best looking fox alive. Well, I’m no longer quite that sure.

Reddit user Marmoe has shared with us an astonishing image of a fox trotting across a dune somewhere in the desert. Well, it turns out that the image was take by José Mingorance and was an entry into National Geographic’s Traveler Photo Contest 2013 in the category Outdoor Scenes. Here is the original caption by the author:

The fennec, or desert fox is a canine mammal species of the genus Vulpes, which inhabits the Sahara Desert and Arabia. With its features ears, this is the smallest species of the family Canidae. It is endangered and its main threat is illegal in other countries.

The image was taken in Morocco. But I do like one of The Reddit commenter’s take on it:

Looks more like Wile E. Coyote on the prowl for that damn roadrunner.

It really does. What an awesome image! So, here is the image, followed by a couple of mug shots of the National Fox Welfare Society’s resident Fox and some of his friends, for contrast. Let us know your favorite in the comments below.

I haven't been here for awhile so it was wonderful to catch up on these amazing videos! I still have more to go. Thanks everyone, for these delightful moments of time well spent.

These pictures are from the second video of OH-SO-CUTE seals (there are three on this page from Yahoo). The first video was taken in England with a seal pup playing peekaboo with a lovely dog ... I think the seal desperately wants to make friends and check the dog out closer up, but doggy not too sure about it. The third video I have yet to watch. This is how we all dream of mankind-animal contact.

Cheryl sis, I'm so sorry you had to activate my link. I had no idea that it wasn't activated and I don't know why it wasn't. Thanks so much. It will make it so much easier for everyone to watch.

One of my daughter's cats does the same thing when Sue sneezes. The cat doesn't even have to be sleeping, she'll make a mewling sound as soon as Sue sneezes or makes believe she's sneezing. So funny!

I activated your link, Lynn. That cat is so cute! That person is trying not to laugh but I think the cat knows he's being filmed. lol

Sue, pumpkins seem like the greatest "toy" for so many animals, like elephants. But I didn't know the big cats would enjoy them so much too. So nice to see them stimuated into such playful actions.

Thanks for posting this happy stuff. I still have a hard time with my computer freezing on this thread but if I wait long enough it will usually come through. I think somewhere I said my computer was like 18 years old and my son remind me that I am using the one his Dad had. So that makes it about seven years old. Not quite so ancient.

When I see the funny captions people think up for their animal pictures, it makes me feel how 'a-kin' we all are. Humour belongs to no one specific race, creed or religion.

Lovely videos ladies, thanks for posting them.  I also do not think wild animals should be anyone's pets.  They belong in the wild unless they are sick or injured and are being treated.  As soon as they are well they should be put back where they belong. Nor should animals be dressed up in clothes, except for jackets and boots in winter where salt is put down to melt ice and snow as it does a lot of harm to their paws.   Here is a very short video that will make you laugh out loud.  I played it three times in a row because I really needed the laugh this morning.  Pet baby lamb comes when called.... 6 seconds of pure fun.

Thanks Lynn, Barb and Lily for latest videos.

What those people did for Igor the bulldog was so kind! I hated going to my husband's sister's place at Christmas and leaving our border collie. She grieved terribly. Igor had such a good time, but those other little doggies in there weren't so lucky. Oh my, the elephant was absolutely entertaining and I just melted watching her, Lynn. When the other ele came up she didn't get all possessive like some kids do with their toys --- she loved on her!! Such a sweetheart. Otters are very clever and those people may have been training them for entertainment purposes... yes, I noticed the ones in cages at the back, too. He seemed happy to be eating whatever that was, though. A few moments of bliss maybe.

People want to make animals into humans - doing human things, wearing human clothing, etc. Remember the dog shows they had in the 30s or 40s where all the dogs were dressed as humans and walked on their back legs..... I can't imagine what life was like for those poor little things. No laws protecting them back them either.   The exception I agree with is coats in winter for those breeds that don't have much hair. Some people keep their homes extremely hot in wintertime and that affects dogs when they are thrust into the cold weather, especially older dogs.

Barb, that fellow with the fish.... so darn cute! The fish --- I don't know what kind of fish that is --- really liked playing with him, almost like a tiny porpoise or dolphin. I bet the fish wouldn't do that with everyone. He or she has gotten to know the fellow most likely. Never seen that before. Thanks!

Lily, that dog and the child are so cute and cosy. What a huggable baby that doggy is!

dd This dog is probably out there still trying to get that slippery piece of butter!

the otter is cute but I agree people should not keep wild animals,it belongs where there is water for a start,it can't swim sitting round a table!!!
Also there are other   animals in cages at back of room. Just not fair.

I think those hedgehogs are photo shopped too they are not natural anyway.
also that video of man and a fish ,doesn't he know you should not handle them as you can remove some of it's protective covering.

I can't understand why people own wild animals but this otter is adorable and very well mannered until the tv guy starts yelling. Then all bets are off! lol

Lily, I agree with you in most cases about dressing animals in silly clothing. As far as certain "pets" go, pigs can certainly be good pets. They're very smart and can be trained. Our own George Clooney had a pet pig he called Max. Max was with George for 18 years at which point he passed away from old age.

Cute they may be Cheryl but they shouldn't be kept as pets they are wild animals

You don't get to see their faces like that though outside as when you approach them they curl up in a ball

Here's a cute video

OMGosh, I had such a good time on here tonight. Laughed myself silly! The talking animals with obvious wonderful British humour had me in stitches. "Ellen.."Ellen..." - that prairie dog~~~~ hee hee hee~~~~The voices and words fit the situations perfectly~~~~ and that beautiful big baby (dog) getting a swim lesson from daddy... so cute and trusting!
~~~~ Hey, that's just like my little birdy singing to the dog... so cute!
~~~~ The squirrel and the vaseline trick.... it was as if I was right there in that room laughing along with those people! Thanks, Lynn. I am re-charged from all the healthy laughter!

Wendy, the wee Hedgehog is so ADORABLE! He or she really is smiling. What a great way to wake up in the morning with that picture! Thank you!

Lily, you have a point with dressing up animals. There are some little coats or sweaters that seem okay for some dogs in winter, but some clothing I've seen mock the animal with really stupid, uncomfortable costumes -- then people just laugh at the poor thing! That makes me sad.

Here's another little Hedgehog... bathtime... or float time! I wonder how many people have these little fellas for pets?

ee

Cute videos, good idea with the squirrel one ,vaseline but wouldn't be much help if anything nearby he could climb on first as they can practically 'fly' through the air

The piggie is cute but they are daft dressing it up in all those clothes and taking it out in a pram, it's not a baby,
I wish some people would just let them be what they are --an animal not  a human

I was here last night going through quite a few. I can only do so many at a time before my computer slows. But OH MY, HOW I ENJOYED ALL THE HAPPINESS!

Thanks Lynn, Sue, and Lily for those great videos. The cat opening that door -- smarty pants! The Chihuahua and Great Dane -- our first Chihuahua used to chase a neighbour's Great Dane around The Great Danes are such  peace-loving, gentle giants! Love them. The snowgoat -- absolutely adorable! What a great HAPPY story. The Lions -- Bella and Simba, wow, that was exciting and held my breath a number of times. Did you all feel that lion's growl go right through ya? Poor souls, I hope they have found comfort with one another. The rescued deer - awwwww.... ALL THESE VIDEOS QUALIFY FOR THE HUMANITY AT ITS BEST THREAD as well. They are all excellent.

I will look at the other ones tomorrow, but I can see that adorable chimp, Lily. lol - awesome gif!! And that chubby chipmunk.... he's obviously getting spoiled by someone.

3 Year Old Lost in Siberia Forest For 11 Days
4 months ago

Although we don't get to have a good picture of the puppy, it was the puppy who led rescuers to the area where a three-year-old little girl was lost in rough terrain. There were wolves and bears in this area, and the temperature dropped very low at night. Cuddling with her puppy would have helped to keep her warm. The puppy finally left her to go summon help.

This is the only picture of the puppy (looks like a young Husky) I could find (from the video).

dd

When they finally found her, she was nestled in tall grass.

Safe at last, thanks to her puppy and the rescuers - AND HER GUARDIAN ANGEL!

Re the last posts of thread #12:

Lynn, I love to watch KOKO. She is such a beautiful Being. She is so gentle with the kittens, and I remember when one of her first kittens died and she grieved terribly. I remember seeing the video of the time Robin Williams visited KOKO. I found that video and I'll post it on the thread Wendy started in memory of Robin.

Barb, I would LOVE to live and work on that sanctuary! Even watching the video is like going on vacation, short as it may be. Thanks so much for video. It's like the Garden of Eden.

Lily, the picture of the robin is so cute but I couldn't get into the video. It just kept going around and around. Maybe I'll have better luck on this new thread.
