After years of evidence that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is both an embarrassment and a danger to the Justice Department, The Seattle Times reports that Congressman Jay Inslee (D-WA), "will introduce a resolution today directing the House Judiciary Committee to investigate whether Attorney General Alberto Gonzales should be impeached."¹

Democracy for America has been pushing Congress to take this action for months. Over 80,000 members have already petitioned their representatives.²

As The New York Times wrote this weekend, "Americans have been waiting for months for Mr. Bush to fire Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who long ago proved that he was incompetent and more recently proved that he can't tell the truth. Mr. Bush refused to fire him after it was clear Mr. Gonzales lied about his role in the political purge of nine federal prosecutors."³

Our wait for justice could soon be over.

The various marches and actions.

Good old fashioned civil disobedience is good.

We need to throw a wrench in the works.

Wake up people through flyers, make business cards with a favorite link or two and put them everywhere.

Go to local schools and churches. Talk to them.

Do sit ins and refuse to leave your reps. office.

Oppose recruiters and their lies.

Use your imagination and do whatever you feel is right.

If we do not get control of this illegal and out of control government soon, we never will.

Hi guys,
I thought that I should send you a more personal request than the political action letter that gets updated, and goes out through our network nearly everyday. There is something, that has me really excited and a little worried, going on. Dennis Kucinich is putting his reputation and the credibility of impeachment on the line in congress right now. From a letter I recieved this morning...

"Rep. Kucinich is restricted in the number of pages he can submit into the congressional record each day. As a result, on our behalf, he will be demanding impeachment each day on the floor of the house for as long as we can supply him names. Tell everyone you know, so that we can keep impeachment on the table until the rest of congress upholds their oaths to the constitution."
 
This could be it, the beginning of the end of Cheney. But if there are not enough names to submit to congress, he will come off looking like a sentimental fool, throwing his lot in with a fringe group of left wing radicals. We know that this is not the case, but congress, thus far, does not, and if Kucinich comes up short, they will lambast both him and the idea of impeachment for it. So I ask you, as a friend, if you support the impeachment of Cheney, and have not yet sent in a DIY impeachment petition, to please, please take the time to do so now. The entire movement probably hinges on this.

The "DIY Impeachment Kit" [above] is actually a legal document, designed based on a precident set in 1826. There is more info about this on the page, where you can download the document to print (be sure to select the Cheney one, there is also one for Bush). Each person fills out (name, address) and signs 2 copies of this petition and 2 cover letters, one each for Kuchinich and Impeach for Peace (just to have a copy in the hands of someone we can trust not to trash it). They come with very clear instructions and all needed addresses. These are then mailed to Kucinich and ImpeachForPeace, that is it. Please pass this on, make copies of the petition for friends and family, anything you can. Every single one of these is vital right now.

Over the past several days, one of the political pundits suggested that the eventual Republican Presidential nominee should choose Condi Rice for vice-president.

Only reason I see that as a good idea is to keep her in the spotlight so we can remember to impeach her, too.

Good news, Bad news February 03, 2008 6:41 PM

The good news is that John Conyers says he's still open to impeachment, and that he doesn't take orders from Nancy Pelosi. The bad news is that he fears impeachment will distract from the campaigns and may hurt the Democrats more than the criminals. I think he'll only begin impeachment proceedings if Bush does something really outrageous, like bomb Iran.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

that Dubya has done seven years of outrageous, and gotten away with all of it.  I shudder to think what will be outrageous enough to merit the start of impeachment proceedings!
