Types of threads /posts that will be deleted March 19, 2006 10:34 AM

There are very few subjects that will be deleted here. However since the Qur'an is being discussed here there are a few things that us Muslims consider offensive and should not be done where the Qur'an is present those threads/posts will be deleted.

These are:

Profanity

Nude or semi-nude pictures

Any picture that dipicts any person in a Demeaning manner

Any pictures of gods or goddesses

Bigotry

Prejudice against any person, race, religion or National Origin

If you feel it is necessary to post something  along those lines, please post it as a link to another site and state that the link is Haram to Muslims

wa salaamu alaikum!  I think the rules for the group you set are fair and reasonable.  As this is a group about Islam, I feel we need to uphold the tenents of Islaamic view on things, which are very basic and non-offensiive!  It is nice for members to post links!!  I like that -as it gives us the choice to go to those links if so chosen and learn further about the topic.  In this way, we are still upholding Islaamic beliefs and values while still respecting others faiths and beliefs, which is what we are about.  I know this is a touchy subject and may be difficult to address at times, but I think everyone here is very understanding as well as to the reasoning due to the faith based values taught here.  I too think it is important as well for members to post about their celebrations.  Its nice to know about these days so we can send greetings, love and wishes for a beautiful day.  For instance Many of my non-muslim friends wish me "Happy Eid" and it is so nice!!!  Just as I give them wishes and greetings on their religious holidays/special days.  As I am muslim, they know my values and I know theirs, and we stay within the boundraries of our perspectve faiths - yet foster loving, suportive friendships!  For me, its all about love, and learning, and this group has been a fine example of both!!

love & blessings, A'isha

The important thing is for everybody to feel free to post. There is no problem with opossing view points, questions are always welcome, debate is acceptable.

Disagreements are inevitable. One thing we can all do is agree to disagree with dignity, respect and honor.

I believe the posting rules pose minimal restrictions and keep everything within the areas of acceptability for all of us. Our goal is to learn, teach and understand. Nobody here is out to cause friction or conflict.

I wish all groups had these rules, then maybe I would join them and participate in more discussions!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

perhaps we should also add to the rules that threads should at least be directly related to the truth about islam.

islam is a way of life more than a set of creeds, so islam DOES come up within the context of world events and politics. i personally dont feel that this group is the place to discuss politics, as islam may only be one of many considerations. there definitely are quite a number of groups where islam can be discussed in that context.

ppl's faith should shape up the collective community's politics however in the world today it is the ideology of the leaders and politicians which is threatening to change ppl's faith.

i suggest that we keep this group for the zen of islam, if we may call it that, and refer any political threads to relevant groups so as to keep this group as a spiritual retreat.

there is wisdom in every faith and i see that this group has been moving more on the lines of personal growth for muslims and non-muslims, gaining wisdom from islam for one's personal spiritual quest and journey, and understanding and deeping one's understanding of islam, a place to share and nurture shared values.. i would personally want it to stay that way.. hosts what ya think?

salaam Amin! July 22, 2006 2:31 PM

Brotha..I agree with everything you said--the group should be focused on learning about the deen-way of life-it's beauty, tenents, beliefs in context of al Qur'an, Hadiths, -family life, regions and peoples of islaamic faith, and so forth...while politics is a part of every region, religion, peoples, i do not feel discussions and debates of politics and violence belongs here--it just takes away from the focus of the group-learning about the true  Islaam--its beauty and love...I feel a more appropriate place to discuss the political stance of Islaam specifically-is "Muslims Against Terrorism" which appears to be a more appropriate place to post political questions concerning all the myths and sterotypes surrounding Islaam and violence...or..we could take the second route which we briefly discussed in our letter about something more focsed to be created to address this topic.  While there is so much to learn about Islaam, I feel this group, should stay within the confines of "peace, beauty, love & tolerance"...again..another group has been, or can be-created to address political issues...Just as there is a group for Islaamic Art....

Love & blessings, A'isha

This group is focusing on the good that is Islam and seeks to promote understanding among the members which includes the followers of many faiths and ethnicities. If complaints are being made or a particular post is degrading to any religion or race, it will be deleted upon depiction. I'd like to ask that you please be considerate to others in your postings. Shukran/thank you.  [ send green star]
