Comprehensive resource/Islamic links April 06, 2006 1:28 PM

Here is a very comprehensive website on Islam created by Dr. Alan Godlas from the Department of Religion at the University of Georgia. The website addresses many topics from 'Islamic History', to contemporary topics. Sources used to create this website include academics, journalists, and Muslim scolars. You will find essays and articles.

Learning about any religion takes time. Islam is over 1400 years old. A lot has happened in this time, a lot of changes have occured. It will not take a day or a few ideas to understand or to appreciate Islam.

I suggest that people start reading if you really want to know about Islam.

Ask yourself what you think you already know about Islam. What do Muslims believe in? How do Muslims practive Islam in their everyday lives? What makes a person a Muslim? What changes did Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) bring to Arabia? What was it about Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) that people respect so much?

Start with 'Islamic History'.

Things written in American school  books are very insufficient.Students need a much better source of learning other countries religions.

I couldn't agree more. I'd take another step in demanding we learn the "propper history" to this country, not just what the white man decided should be told and not to be told. I want the truth and is a right for us and our kids to have.

sadly, the "white man in power" regulates most things..that is why i teach my children the real for real...such as thanksgiving...i have purchased books which tell the truth about these and other historical  events which are twisted in a favorable light...my ties with my NA medicine man have helped-he has taught us much..but yes, it would be nice to see the truth in the schoiol texts..but-when has truth ever took a prescendence (sp) especially when desacration, slavery, oppression, nihlism, has been a historical foundation...the true would destroy the fantasy...and the fantasy is hat keps the corruption, injustice-in power..

love A'isha

I'm still greatful we  have a United States to live in,but what we can do to help make things more fair for what happened during the "insufficient history." times, will take  time. My children also have lots of books of different countries and their histories.,and lots of different music to listen to.
