POLITICAL ISSUES August 05, 2006 12:13 PM

Please post all questions of a political nature here. This will help keep the group focused on it's original purpose. The group was not formed to be political in nature. Howeve, it is understandable as to why some political matters will come up.  [ send green star]

As Heidi T. invited me here, I'll take her up on her offer.

As I do not have issues with religion in particular, I do worry when religion interferes too much in politics. From the standpoint of free speech this worries me.

Discussion of religious questions now banned at UN Human Rights Council

Vote on freedom of expression marks the end of Universal Human Rights

An attempt to silence critisism on Islam.

Then the Jordanian courts who want to persecute Geert Wilders for slandering the Koran.

This and more does not convince me that we all can live in peace and tolerance in this globalised world where values and ideas differ. I know most people can, no matter what they belief, but politics is instituted hypocrisy, just as organised religion often is.

Religious people are fine. They seek contact with God, or Allah and try to live wisely and good. There's no threat there. Only the people who call themselves religious but don't act accordingly, but rather in a political way to support their goals (more power to their religious organisations), are the ones we all should worry about.

In a diverse community there always has to be room for divers opinion and divers critisism. Even disrespect should be tolerated and answered in a respectful way. How else can you find truth and the respect needed to communicate and relate?
