The U.S. Navy is still planning on undertaking a scaled back version of their testing of Low Frequency Active (LFA) sonar in the oceans. LFA is proven to injure and destroy whales and dolphins. LFA noise is millions of times more intense than the Navy considers safe for human divers and billions of times more intense than levels known to disturb large whales.

In November, following a ruling by a Federal magistrate, the Navy scaled back its testing plans. But it hasn't scaled back sufficiently, as the sonar can seriously harm marine life. Sign now, and support a ban on such testing.

In March, 2000, during a Mid- range frequency (rather
than the Low Frequency bandwidth of LFA test in the Bahamas, four different species of whales and dolphins beached themselves suffering from hemorrhaging/bleeding in the ears. A National Marine Fisheries Service and Navy investigation determined the deaths were almost certainly caused by the LFA test. A follow-on study in February 2001, determined that at least one of those whale species no longer existed in the area.

Mid-range frequencies are already in use world-wide, and are now proven to be very dangerous in certain circumstances. The LFAS system is even more dangerous, as the sounds will propagate farther and be disabling at a greater distance.

Whales rely on their sensitive hearing for survival. A whale cannot survive without its hearing. The Navy's attempts to deploy LFA could result in the extermination of whales and dolphins world wide. SIGN NOW!

Our oceans are in serious decline. Overfishing, marine habitat destruction, coastal development, and pollution are pushing our ocean systems to the brink of collapse.

Urge your Representative to support strong marine protections. Ocean fisheries have significant effects on ocean ecosystems and are integral to national and coastal economies. That's why these activities have to be carefully managed.

In recent years, two national commissions have recommended strengthening marine protections. However, no action has been taken by the Federal Government to address this growing problem. Rather than building on the strengths of the current law, Congress is considering weakening longstanding safeguards, which would increase serious environmental threats to ocean fish and marine ecosystems.

Congress needs to know that we care about the health of our oceans and want them to oppose efforts to weaken marine protections.

The House of Representatives recently voted not only to gut the Endangered Species Act, but in a last minute attempt to please developers, Representative Adam Putnam (R-FL) added an amendment to exclude the endangered manatee from protections under the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA).

Manatees are found over publicly-owned submerged lands -- the water bottoms of rivers, estuaries, and bays. These lands are like public parks -- they are managed by the state in trust for all the people. Virtually everyone agrees that imperiled species should be protected when they inhabit public lands, but this amendment leaves the fragile manatee out to dry.

Under Congressman Putnam's amendment many dock-building projects that would likely hurt or kill manatees will be able to move forward with little or no conservation measures. This amendment will exact a major toll on manatees because boat strikes continue to be the largest known cause of manatee deaths in Florida.

The Putnam amendment is headed for the Senate and we must stop it from passing. Sign this petition to stop the exemption!

Cook County, Chicago

Angry because a 7-month-old Chihuahua urinated on the rug, a northwest suburban man grabbed the 4-pound puppy by the neck and threw it against a bedroom wall so hard the pet died of its injuries.   The man's two young stepchildren witnessed the violence against their puppy. John W. Meyer’s bail was set at $5,000, but no mention as to whether he posted the $500required for his release.

Mr. Meyer faces a maximum three-year prison sentence if convicted of the animal cruelty charge.

We the undersigned, support the Prosecuting Attorney for this case; in that Meyer’s felony charge remains unwavering, and that he rigorously seeks indictment.  We also agree that Mr. Meyer should receive psychological counseling.

Noting his treatment of the children, and fearing for their safety and welfare, we also feel they should not be allowed to remain in the same household as Mr. Meyer, nor have any contact with him.

In advertisements for Marshall Pet Products, the company claims it "…cares as deeply about your ferret’s health and well-being as you do," but the ads the Marshall family doesn’t want the caring public to see are run in Lab Animal magazine. These ads prove that the ferrets and beagles they breed are nothing more than commodities to them. The following are from Marshall ads in Lab Animal: "All Marshall animals are raised in elevated, indoor pens that simulate the laboratory environment…"; "[b]y tracking all important characteristics and genetic information, and then weeding out undesirable stock, Marshall Farms can supply beagles ideal for research."

All you hear is a door slammed closed and the sound of screams and choking as the gas is turned on. They see one another dying, going into convulsions and bleeding out of the mouth. Many are not quite dead and are thrown back in the incinerator. We are not talking about the Holocaust, we are talking about something that happens in your community every day.

Thousands of dogs are put down every year in North Carolina. Many shelters have not updated their method of euthanasia and are still using the gas chamber. In many peoples eyes this is not humane. The only humane way to put a dog to sleep is by lethal injection through a vein in the leg. This method takes less than 30 seconds and is pain free for the most part.

Please help, by signing this petition, North Carolina put a law into affect to make lethal injection into the leg the only way to euthanize an animal.

The Sequoia Park Zoo in Eureka, California has been keeping Bill, the chimpanzee, in solitary confinement for years. He is imprisoned in a tiny cement cell and the City of Eureka refuses to let him go to a sanctuary where he can be with other chimpanzees and run on grass and swing on trees. Please demand the Eureka City Council to do the right and humane thing and let Bill go to a chimpanzee sanctuary where he can enjoy life. He must not be allowed to continue to languish in and eventually die a lonely death in his cell.

• Incarceration
• A permanent prohibition on her personal and professional contact with animals
• A thorough psychiatric evaluation and counseling at Mulverhill's own expense

save dogs from the philippine DOG MEAT trade January 27, 2007 6:03 PM

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/879609320 Because this exceedingly brutal commercial industry provides a steady flow of income not only to the traders but to individuals in government positions acting in their own interests, the dog meat trade remains unscathed from the Animal Welfare Act. However, House Bill 2991 is currently pending in the Committee on Revision of Laws that provides a stiffer penalty to dog meat traders. Introduced by Representative Francis Escudero, the creation of the bill was based on the need to upgrade an Act that, as noble as the objectives of the law are, the traders remain elusive because the penalty is unrealistic. The penalty must be upgraded. OUR GOAL is to obtain OVER 50,000 signatures by JUNE 30, 2007. It is obvious that the only way we can ensure that dogs in the Philippines are protected is to place the Philippines government under the international spotlight.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

We need YOUR help ! March 23, 2007 4:57 PM

Dear friends,

A big thank you to all of you that have signed our petition trying to stop Tesco, a well known UK store, selling live turtles in China.

In all of this sorry affair, the WORST part for me is that they allow their customers to take the live turtle away to end its life in any way they choose to. The turtle retracts to avoid being decapitated, the rest I will leave to your imagination, but can involve hammers, chisels and blunt knives. The turtle can then have its organs removed and other parts before its head is cut off, leaving it conscious for a long time.  It is estimated that a turtle is eaten in China every 2 seconds, let us at least ensure that their life is ended humanely.

The Petition currently stands at 1,900 signatures, but we need everyone's signature to stand a chance of stopping Tesco.

There are always times in our lives when we need the help of others, I need YOUR help, the turtles need YOUR help.
The people that have already signed the Petition need YOUR help, let's join together and put a stop to this.

Please take the 20 seconds to sign our petition, stop this animal cruelty that is allowed just for greed and profit.

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/518761759

Take care all, I hope you all have a good weekend.

Kind regards, Paul.
