Hi! I have started a petition to stop the proposed Site C Dam, and am
inviting you to PLEASE sign it and forward it to everyone you know.
With a background in wildlife biology, I have read the reports, done
the research, and can tell you, this is a BAD idea! With a lifespan of
only (maybe) 100 years, this project threatens to wipe out a huge chunk
of extremely significant land. If you are interested in environmental
health, preservation, hunting, fishing, human history, archaeology, or
First Nations concerns to name a few, please put your name on this
petition and tell the BC Government that it is time to find a real
solution rather than this devastating "quick fix." Our politicians and
businessmen are looking only at the short term; we need to make them
consider the future. Once this precious land is under the dam, it's
gone forever! There are other solutions. Let's ask our government to
develop them instead of destroying our natural resources. Please visit
the site below, and sign your name! It will only take a moment, but
will mean so much!

Hello again... am having some trouble getting this petition rolling. I know this isn't a particularly flashy topic, like saving one
certain species, but its reach is far greater: there are many lives at
stake here, along with several other human-based concerns, including
quality of life, pollution, loss of recreational opportunities,
irreplacable farmland, and in some cases, livelihood. Please take the
time to read on, sign the petition, and note this topic:
I'm
trying to raise awareness of a very serious threat to BC's northern
wilderness, and the health of a large river system. The Peace River
sustains a huge variety of wildlife, including several endangered
species. The BC government has plans to put a large hydroelectric dam
across it, so that the proposed reservoir would flood prime farmland as
well as crucial habitat for deer, moose, grizzlies, arctic greyling,
and pileated woodpeckers, to name just a few. It would also flood
promising archeological sites and first nations lands, as well as
causing further mercury contamination, along with a plethora of other
concerns. Plus, the site that has been chosen is not even stable: it,
like the rest of the valley planned for flooding, is made of silt. One
last note: while BC Hydro would have us believe that hydroelectric
facilities are environmentally friendly, this is not the case: rotting
vegetation in the water will cause the dam to release enormous amounts
of greenhouse gases. This is a bad idea based on old technology, aimed
at immediate gratification without regard for long-term repercussions.
Please sign this petition and help me stop the BC government from
making this mistake and compromising our future.

Thanks for your time, and keep on fighting the good fight!

This is such an important issue: it's not getting much attention because there's not a big human population here. But that's exactly why it's important for wildlife! Please sign the petition and pass it on; we need all the help we can get!
