Hi, I'm new to the group and have been an advocate of Steve's conservation beliefs since the beginning of his career.  I'm happy to be apart of this group and to continue Steve's legacy to educate and conserve our environment and wildlife!

anonymous G'Day Mates October 26, 2007 6:16 PM

G'day mates, my name is Tammy Meyer. I hope it's alright for me to be here. I too was very saddened as was my family. let me tell you a story how Steve changed my life, even though I never had the honor of meeting him in person. Five years ago I lost my father to cancer and like steve said about his mother,it leaves a hole in your heart and you'll never really get over it,but you owe that person to get up and move on, my dad and I were close. So I found myself having to get up and move on with a huge responsibility with my own family and my mother. My mother has many physical, psycological and emotion problems. We tried to take care of her but found it was too much and ended up having to put her in a nursing home by her doctors recommendation. Then a year later our house caught fire and we lost everything. We tried to rebuild afterwards but everyone turned their back on us including the church we were going to. Everyone had lied to us about helping us rebuild but when it came right down to it,they said they weren't interested. Then the neighbors started harrassing us,unknown to us they were in contact with the landlord about buying our land, so they made our life miserable while we tried to rebuild. They even went as far as calling DFS on us. DFS harrassed us for about 3-6 months then finally giving us an ultimatum, either we move out of the house we were trying to rebuild or loose our kids needless to say we moved. We moved to an apartment that didn't allow pets so we had to find temporary shelter for our dog, which is a story by itself. At about this time I had given up on trusting people, I was very bitter. But one day we were flipping through the channels and landed on Animal Planet and "The search for the Super Croc" was on. There was nothing else on so we stayed on Animal Planet and we watched it all the way through. I had heard of Steve but wasn't interested in his type of work. But all of a sudden things changed. My very cold heart began to melt like an ice cuge in boiling water. I was hooked and watched him, getting to know him and his family better. it was like he reached through the screen, grabbing my hand and saying come on, come with me, see and feel what I do and I did. I still do. When I heard steve had been killed I didn't want to believe it. My family and I watched the memorial service and cried through the whole thing. We also vowed to pick up where he left off. We have already begun by starting our own organisation called, "Preservation Creation." We educate people on taking care of God's creation and the wildlife. we are also working on a website under the same name. We also do newsletters and right now I am in the process of trying to convince the Missouri Conservation Department to let the mountain lions repopulate in Missouri. Anyway, that is how Steve Irwin changed my life.

I am so happy to see a group here that really appreciates what Steve has done!

I was shocked and saddened, as thousands of people worldwide undoubtedly were, by the news of this incredible man's passing. As brash as his approach was, his devotion and enthusiasm have always lead me to look beyond the lunacy to his passionate mission ; conservation, education and tolerance.

Steve Irwin was so much more than an exhuberant, in-your-face , larger than life television personality. He was an educator and a true wildlife warrior.....and the legacy that he left has inspired me more than ever to be a voice for those who have none.

Thanks, Steve-o , you beauty....and thanks , Wolf Singer and Lena, for creating this group.

Thanks for joining us!

Steve's death has been a blow to all of us, this is true.  It's also been a true motivator for us to come together as a global community and find ways to carry on his work.  As long as we continue doing what we can to raise awareness and keep his legacy alive, we'll be following in his footsteps.  And Crikey, what a great thing to do!

Gorgeous group! Thanks for starting it...I was a follower of Steve's message, so it was a major blow to me when I heard. But I am glad that I've found care2.com and other people who are as passionate about conservation as I am!   [report anonymous abuse]

Welcome to Samantha, Michelle, and Margaret!

We're still kind of a work in progress here, but as you'll see in the threads, we're working to get things organized in a way that makes it easy for everyone to move around in here, and which we hope will look professional enough to impress Steve's wildlifewarriors.org organization, and maybe even Terri herself.

Hey, thanks for coming!    Welcome to the group!

There's lots of work to be done, but we're hoping that by the time everything is set out and organized, we'll have a professional looking group that will encourage not only a new partnership between Care2 and Wildlife Warriors, but also (fingers are crossed, for sure!), potential sponsorship of this group by WW.

Welcome!

Yep, Lena definitely has it goin' on here.    It's still a new group and we're still working the kinks out but it definitely has tremendous potential to help us all carry on Steve's work in the best way we can.

If you'd like to offer a tribute to this amazing man, go to his Tribute thread.  At some point (we haven't figured out when, yet, but when we do, we'll let everyone know), we're going to forward the link to the thread right to Terri, so she can have it to read.    It's our way of letting her know that we all support her and the kids and that we all loved her Wildlife Warrior husband.

Thank you Wolf Singer for the invite and thank you Lena for starting this group.  I think, like everyone else, I am still in total shock and disbelief that he is gone.  You could not help laughing and smiling watching that crazy Aussie!  I believe that you learn more about something when it is also entertaining, and Steve Irwin never disappointed in that area.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Thanks for joining us here.

Lena started this group to pay tribute to Steve Irwin and the legacy he left. One way we can honor that is to become wildlife warriors ourselves by joining up with wildlifewarriors.org and doing our part to carry on his work.

It was tragic news to hear of Steve Irwin's death.  The only consolation is that he died doing something he loved.

Good luck with this group.

And to this group.

Steve truly was the original "wildlife warrior," that's for sure, and he impacted the lives of every person he met in every country he visited, this is true.

Take a look at what's on the proverbial table - be sure to check the "YOU ARE HERE:" thread, too; it will help you navigate the group a bit easier.

Very good idea to begin with this group. I´m still shoched about this . Wish this is just a bad dream. He visited my country twice, and taught very important things to mexicans about caring for different animals in the places he visited (Chiapas, Tabasco and Oaxaca). He taught indian children how to preserve these habitats. He liked these places very much and considered Mexico a very important place in the planet because of our diversity in strange and unique species. We will miss him. Thanks to  Steve for all his enthusiastic contribution here and worldwide.

I'm happy to be able to help you out with this.  I think following this is a good idea, too.

Following the trail of Steve's funeral, until he's laid to rest, postings about the status could go in THIS THREAD for convenience and easier tracking.

Thank you Holly! September 06, 2006 8:47 AM

I am anxious to get this group rolling. I think that since the funeral arrangements are still being made etc. that we should also follow those developments as well. I am thinking that we should start a thread dedicated to the next few days of what transpires until he is finally laid to rest.

However, I have to get back to work for now, so I will be back later.

to you all for being a part of this group.

Hello, Lena!

Hearing about Steve Irwin's death was a SHOCK, but I'd like to think that a lot of good will come out of his efforts to both teach us about animals and encourage us to save the environment for the sake of humans and all other species! I want to help!
