One of the kinds of work I would like to see us continue that the Irwins were very passionate about is called conscious consumerism.. Actively taking part in spreading the word about companies and groups that sell things which either hurt wildlife or the environment. Steve Irwin promoted conscious consumerism nearly his entire life, which is part of his work I am also passionate about.. and part of what they did that most people haven't heard about .. I believe it to be the one sure way to keep our environment clean and our wildlife breathing for future generations.. Could we post on this thread lists of companies who procure wildlife, or whose practices harm the environment??

Steve worked very hard to raise awareness in this area, and I think it's a great idea to continue that effort. Go for it, my friend.
Thanks.. To begin with .. Here is one list of companies that trade with those who are decimating the rainforests, and using violent means to get what they want.. This is gleaned from the Greenpeace list and truly deserves to be noted and those in the areas of this company need to spread the word, or to arrange a boycott of these products.. . Several U.S. companies help to fuel violence and rainforest destruction in the
Brazilian Amazon by buying and/or distributing wood from Grupo Madenorte, a
logging company that engages in corrupt practices in Brazil's conflict-torn Par·
state. As detailed in the Greenpeace report State of Conflict, Madenorte and
other timber companies use fraud, intimidation, slavery, and murder to usurp
land from Par· residents and decimate the rainforest. An annex to the report
identifies Center, Texas-based Ihlo Sales & Import Company as the single
largest importer of wood from Madenorte, and lists several other U.S. companies
that either import from Madenorte directly or distribute Madenorte wood from
Ihlo.
Other importers identified in the annex include Columbia Forest
Products (Portland, Ore.), Dantzler (Miami Lakes, Fla.), DLH Nordisk
(Greensboro, N.C.), John S. Connor, Inc. (Baltimore, Md.), McCausey Lumber
(Roseville, Mich.), Robinson Lumber (New Orleans, La.), and Sabra International
(Miami Beach, Fla.). Distributors that routinely purchase or have purchased
Madenorte wood from Ihlo include Acadian Hardwoods & Cypress (Ponchatoula,
La.), Boom, Inc. (Newtown Square, Pa.), Central Wholesale Supply Corporation
(Norfolk, Va.), Diamond Hill Plywood (Darlington, S.C.), Dixie Plywood
(Savannah, Ga.), and Tech Products (Miami, Fla.).
Many folks dont know about the ban on ivory sales that exists.. there are specifications about which ivory may be sold and how old it must be.. However..
The Internet, particularly the U.S.-based company eBay, has provided an easy means by which ivory can be bought and sold. On eBay, anonymous people in unknown locations can buy and sell ivory without fear of prosecution. Each day, over one thousand ivory objects are offered for sale on this site. HSUS says that Although most ivory buyers and sellers on eBay appear to live in the United States, many offer their products from other nations. When asked, many selling ivory on eBay admitted that they didn't know the origin of the ivory they were offering for sale. Some eBay sellers offered to forge documents—usually to claim that the ivory was antique—to get around laws.
The eBay site provides guidelines regarding the sale of prohibited, questionable, and infringing items, placing responsibility for obeying the law solidly in the hands of the buyers and sellers who use the service. This area is complex, and sellers should consult with the USFWS and their state wildlife agency to ensure that the particular item involved may lawfully be sold.
A good plan.. Just don't buy it.. and when you see something suspicious.. let the buyer or seller know about it..

It is the illegal Ivory trade that hurts my heart the worst... Don't get me wrong - All of the intrusions to our wildlife and their habitat is painful for me - but the intrusion of the elephant is the most saddening of these horror stories... It is inconceivable that there are those who still profit from their crimes against these most magnificent and intelligent animals...
are quite handsome actually Lena.. and you're right.. Elephants have proven themselves to be so intelligent.. with such memories and able to do so many wonderful things that to call them anything less than a sentient being is beyond theimagination.. Illegal animals are bought and sold on the internet every day.. as well as animal parts.. there are so few ways to stop it.. perusing the sites and sending those links in is one small way.. More to come..
