Dont Block My Vote !! October 05, 2006 1:57 PM

http://www.ucp.org/campaigns/dontblockmyvote/index.html

Only 33 days left to Election Day!

Voting is the foundation of democracy.

DontBlockMyVote.org is driven by three basic principles.

1. Every eligible American citizen should vote.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 7. Register and vote. Most states have early October registration deadlines. Don’t miss your opportunity.

2. Every American deserves equal access to the polling place.

Polling place accessibility is improving, but still not perfect. Be a vigilant advocate by helping us make sure every polling place is accessible and by sharing information about good and bad voting experiences.

3. Disability issues must be at the fore of every election.

People with disabilities represent the largest minority group in America yet very few candidates for public office regularly discuss disability issues during their campaigns. This has to change. Tell candidates to make disability issues a priority!

Perhaps this refers to what happened in the last US elections October 09, 2006 5:05 AM

People were not informed about how to register to vote in time depriving many young americans a right to vote. Many feel that could have made a crucial difference and kept bush out of office. We have to be careful whereever in the world that politicians do not manage to block our votes. This is the fundamental building block of democracy.  [ send green star]

I agree that it is the right of every citizen to vote, however, the poor and disadvantaged are more than likely left out of this process. We as individuals need to take it upon ourselves to make sure that these forgotten communities are involved in the political process, these folks need a voice, It is my belief that there should be a registration site in every community where people who do not have a car and or other transportation could go and register.  Public transportation should be free on election day to make sure that all people can get to the polls.

If only the rich and powerful vote only the rich and powerful will run our countries.  I am sick of Politics as usual in the USA. We need a change and we need it now.  We also need to make sure that every vote is counted accurately and honestly and I am not sure in the last two elections whether that happened!

When the Love of Power becomes the Power of Love we will see a different world where all people have a voice!

anonymous they block the homeless vote... October 09, 2006 3:02 PM

in my county if you are homeless and want to vote they require you to put the address of the nearest corner to where you sleep...regardless of whether you have a PO Box or a homeless organization that accepts mail for you...

now what homeless person in their right mind:

1.  sleeps in the same spot every night

AND 2.  wants the government to know where that is??

then if you are homeless it affects whether or not you can vote in certain elections...I would love to see how getting out the homeless vote would change the elections here...
