It seems that people think we are against animals. This is malarkey, of course.
I also chuckle when someone calls me a humanitarian as if it were a bad thing. By you calling me a humanitarian, you are saying that you are not.
I don't know Mike well, but I know he is a good host for this group.
Personally, I am for gay marriage, a member of make poverty history, the simple living network, and other humanitarian groups (not on care2, in real life).
If Mike has nothing in common with me outside of this group, what does it matter? We are here to discuss one topic.
So please stop the discrediting of people just because they don't agree with you. I am extremely left and Mike is extremely right, but we happen to agree on this issue.

When I saw this group on Freediver's profile, I just had to click on this group & check it out. The symbol looked like the PETA one, but I don't see Freediver as a PETA member. I know about his group the Feral Peril & know PETA not only wants you to prevent cruelty to animals but is also opposed to eating meat.
I stay away from eating red meat & pork, but it's for my health, not because of my position on animal rights. I do eat fish & poultry, which I know PETA is against. PETA does have me on their mailing list & sends me address labels, but I never send them money.
I do host a couple animal groups & sign some animal rights petitions, which hopefully PETA appreciates. If they feel I'm hypocritical by doing that & eating some kinds of creatures, I won't worry about it. I'm following my conscience.
Most of the groups I host including the ones I've stared are to help people rather than animals. I'm really appalled at the way humans mistreat other humans. Many times we get treated worse than animals.
I host/cohost groups on homelessness, poverty & other issues affecting the human race. But I love animals. I hope to get another cat soon.

If "people" refer to "humans" then they are animals, ie "people". So no difference to be made. PeTA doesn't help non human animals in anyway... Do they help humans?

why does "animal" need to be a degrading word? we are all animals. i am a human animal. so arte you pelagus and you apula. our communication is made possible by being humans, not by being animals. we have invented or adapted to our own set of rules and standards. i cant put myself in the same category as a dog, nor can a dog do that to itself.
people and humans are synonymous. why do we need to eliminate the word "animal" from our vocabulary and replace it with "people"? this means that the animals want to be like us. Or at least we are putting words into the animals' mouths.
i find organisations like peta as a waste of time. i do more for every kind of animal than peta. peta is there as some kind of "in" group to glorify their inaneness. they are hypocritical and without merit. this is not to blame most of its members, who are well-meaning people who want to help in their own way and who do more to help by quitting peta.
as i have previously said, i do more than any animal owner for animals. i am against zoos because what right does anyone have to tell animals what to do and where to live and what to eat. hmm...i guess it woulkd be hypocritical if people told me i couldnt sink my teeth into a delicious well-done steak, wouldn't it?
