A lull in the violence is allowing the UN to step in with aid.

I am posting a link to an aid site, but what else can we do to help???

As ferocious fighting engulfs parts of eastern Congo, hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced from their homes. The United Nations Peacekeeping Force is already stretched to the limit. Massive numbers of people continue to flee conflict zones, seeking refuge in swelling displacement camps and with host families.

The fighting is expected to intensify in the next few days as the region hurtles towards civil war. Families in this part of Congo, who have endured the deadliest conflict since World War II, have already lost homes and loved ones. They are now trapped in communities and camps with violence raging all around them.

Mercy Corps' program coordinator in Congo, Matt Gribbin, reports: "The situation is becoming critical. We have over 200,000 newly displaced persons, in addition to the 850,000 that were already displaced in the areas around Goma. The water and sanitation needs are enormous, but we're trucking potable water to people who desperately need it."
