Police Use Taser Gun On 6-Year-Old At School<TEXT id=txt_posted>POSTED:</TEXT> 8:00 am EST November 12, 2004MIAMI -- Police in Miami-Dade County, Fla., say they used a Taser gun on a 6-year-old boy to keep him from hurting himself. <FORM class=formInline name=SurveyQuestions3913429 action=http://cf.theiowachannel.com/des/sh/con_surveycontest_display/sur_results_nt.cfm method=post> </FORM>The boy, who wasn't identified, was shocked with 50,000 volts on Oct. 20 at Kelsey Pharr Elementary School. The principal called 911 after the child broke a picture frame in her office and waved a piece of glass. When two police officers and a school officer arrived, the boy had already cut himself under his eye and on his hand. Police said the officers talked to the boy without success. When the boy cut his own leg, one officer shocked him with a Taser gun and another grabbed him to keep him from falling. The boy was treated and taken to a hospital, where he was committed for psychiatric evaluation. The case is under review. <TEXT id=txt_posted>POSTED:</TEXT> 8:00 am EST November 12, 2004MIAMI -- Police in Miami-Dade County, Fla., say they used a Taser gun on a 6-year-old boy to keep him from hurting himself. <FORM class=formInline name=SurveyQuestions3913429 action=http://cf.theiowachannel.com/des/sh/con_surveycontest_display/sur_results_nt.cfm method=post> </FORM>The boy, who wasn't identified, was shocked with 50,000 volts on Oct. 20 at Kelsey Pharr Elementary School. Florida 6-Year-Old Suspended After Bringing Crack To SchoolPOSTED: 5:15 pm EST November 5, 2004ORLANDO, Fla. -- The mother of a Florida first-grader who brought crack to school said her daughter must have gotten it while trick-or-treating. If so, that's quite a treat: The drugs were worth more than $1,000. The 6-year-old girl has been suspended from her Orlando elementary school. Authorities are investigating the mother. Meanwhile, school officials have sent a letter home to parents explaining how an anti-drug campaign led another student to recognize the crack. Copyright 2004 by The Associated Press. Iknow that kids are growing up to fast now a days heck they were when i was a kid too i my self was skipping school in kindergarden for 2 weeks be4 i was caught and i am 38 crack being taken to school  at 6 i wouldnt have even known what drugs were at that age i am wondering if the child knew what she had and if she did know what kind of parent her mother is :(  as for the story i posted for a policeman to use a taizer on a 6 yr old child is frightening for me especialy  My son sees things in a very literal manner policeman around mean someone did something very bad in his mind and seeing a fireman means there is a fire  he is petrifided of both police and fire personal  at the fire pervention assembly at his school when he saw the fireman walk into his class room in full fire protection gear after NOT BEING TOLD WHAT WAS GOING ON  keep in mind he is autistic  he freaked out compleatly and from what i was told was out of control  now what do you think i would have done had they had to call a cop and that said cop had used a 50,000 volt taizer gun on my 7 yr old son that school and that officer would have had hell to pay in my schools case the got my son to what we call the suport room with toys and teddy bears and had him hold and hug a bear till he could be calmed down   [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Angela...I understand your concerns. I don't think most police depts. are really equipped to handle children with special needs...no matter what they may be. I remember reading about Passaic County, New Jersey trying to have voluntary training for its police and they found that only 3 cops signed up! I think that was over this past Summer.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I agree with you all :) November 15, 2004 4:09 AM

Alo.  At least some good might come out of this, for, because of that incident, and another where they used a tazer on a 12 year old recently, their police dept. is reviewing their policy in this regard.  Hopefully they'll change it!  What do you all think?  My groups :)Disabled Greens News and discussion, Group home page :)http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DisabledGreensNews/ ,Abuse in Therapy, Group homepage :)http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/AbuseinTherapy/Diffabled, Mental Health, all related issues, advocacy, andprofessionals: Invite link:http://passport.care2.net/invite.html?g=880      Homepage:http://www.care2.com/c2c/group/Diffabled_MentalHealth_Action"Painting is poetry which is seen and not heard, and poetry is apainting which is heard but not seen." ~ Leonardo da VinciEnjoy an autumnal eve' as you can.
