Bientot. Cool, thanx :) Happy holidays December 30, 2007 8:45 AM

Bonjour. Cool, thanx :) Happy holidays. I've been an advocate/activist on all issues, et al, for 32 years of my 48; please, do what you can for humanity. Dylan Thomas' poem line comes to mind, "...and death (murder) shall have no dominion..."; as others might say, "we, the people...", can make it so! Like its House counterpart, the Fair Pay Restoration Act clarifies that each discriminatory paycheck is in fact another act of discrimination and, in doing so, restores the law to how it was previously applied and ensures that victims of pay discrimination can have their day in court. AAUW also strongly supports the Paycheck Fairness Act (S. 766/H.R. 1338), which would expand upon the original scope of the Equal Pay Act of 1963 by closing loop holes and improving the law's effectiveness. While this bill is cosponsored by a majority of the representatives in the House (225), it only has 22 cosponsors in the Senate. See if your senator is a cosponsor of the Fair Pay Restoration Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act. When you attend the town hall meeting, it would be helpful if you could ask a question on pay equity. Here is an example you could use verbatim: “New research released in April 2007 by the American Association of University Women Educational Foundation shows that just one year out of college, women working full time already earn less than their male colleagues, even when they work in the same field. Ten years after graduation, the pay gap widens. Wage inequalities are not simply a result of women’s qualifications or choices. Wage discrimination persists despite women’s increased educational attainment, greater level of experience in the workforce, and decreased amount of time spent out of the workforce raising children. Will you support the Fair Pay Restoration Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act (and, if they are a sponsor, add “and push for action on these bills”)?” For more information on the Fair Pay Restoration Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act, see the AAUW Capitol Hill Lobby Corps briefings online (AAUW members only) and the AAUW Action Network online. After you attend a town hall meeting we’d like your feedback. Please go to http://www.capwiz.com/aauw/lrm/feedback.tt and fill out the feedback form. They do try to turn you to their church and beliefs. I used to go to their bible study once a week in the same building i worked for them in while eating my lunch. They wanted everyone to participate and discuss the verse they were studying at that time. well I was always taught that God has a plan for each of us and they had a fit when they learned I believed that. They all knew I wasnt a Salvationist as were many of the others in the class. Anyway I was preached to individually to no end for speaking of that in the class. With no understanding that they did not believe in that prior to my little input. It is my understanding now that they believe you make your own destiny, well I do too but with some variation, like the presence of God and we have a responsibility to make our decisions on how we will live but that there is a plan for what we are here for. Not trying to start a religion debate, just verifying they do want you to believe as they do and they are prejudiced if you dont.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Salvation Army gets money from many Power & Light Bills April 15, 2005 4:44 AM

"Salvation Army gets money from many Power & Light Bills"CHenergy of The Hudson Valley New York State has a "Good Neighbor" program where customers may round up their bills to the nearest dollar or ADD EXTRA MONEY to their electric bill for "The Poor." Those who are disabled and may not be able to pay their bill.Sounds GREAT eh?  WRONG..!!!The money goes into an account that is administrated by none other than The Salvation Army! And they receive INTEREST on this money. CHenergy customers are NOT told who runs this scam. The Salvation Army refused to help someone who had a zero income for three months because their Social Security Check got fouled up and was not issued for 3 months and 2 weeks!Yup, you guessed it. The Salvation Army turned them DOWN. No assistance! The same Salvation Army Commander who complains about the poor who use Food Pantrys to get 2 & 3 Turkeys free at holiday time. Yes some do this by going to different food pantries but have you ever tried to feed a family of six with a 7lb bird?  So I am Crusading against The Salvation Army. I battle with the Commander here locally all the time on the editorial pages....  Someone needs to END The Salvation Army's Tax Exempt Status!God Bless "Target" retail stores who banned the "Kettle People" this past Christmas. I did ALL my Christmas shopping their for that reason! And I told them that and over 1500 people on my email lists.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Well I would know here. I was sent to work for the Salvation Army in Charlotte NC by a temporary agency. I was working in their property management office for the regional director. Let me tell you they are a very wealthy organization. The building I was working in was full of officers of the church as they called themselves. It was as corrupt as hell must be. I know all this because I was in the office, did all the paperwork, documentation, and accounting of their funds for 4 months and was verbally abused by the officers to no end. I held my head high and told myself I had to live with myself when I woke up so just ride the waves and work as long as they would have me. I was cursed at (yes cursed at ) for not knowing who was a male and who was a female officer, they have no difference in their title so when I wrote a letter and referred to the officer as sir I was called on the phone by probably every officer in the south east district. They have tons of money, and my immediate supervisor was an officer who hated all military people (I am a veteran and my husband retired from the military) said they were all dirty and did not really do anything other than take from the government. This from a man weighing at least 500 lbs, no kidding here. His wife was 300 lbs on a skinny day and his whole family all three of their grown fat kids, their spouses and their 8 children all lived in the home with this man taking money from the Salvation Army and not working jobs. None of this mans children had a job, none of his grandchildren had a job. The Salvation Army paid all their living expenses, all their medical care and they took advantage of the donations too. especially the ones from the bakeries and grocery stores. There was always cakes, and goodies in the kitchen for us to eat which I did not eat because I am diabetic, but it was ridiculous. why was nt it going to the people who were hungry. these idiots were not hungry believe me. They all had big bellies and looked ridiculous in those uniforms. I was always respectful but when my supervisor, the big fat guy with all the mooching kids and grandkids got abusive with me my husband went over his head only to find out the people over his head were just like him. so I told my temp agency no not anymore will I work for these people and the supervisor called me begging me but I told him no way I could not condone the Salvation Army ever again. they have corruption you would not believe in this organization, adultery unbelievable adultery within an organization that prides itself on helping the poor and believing in the Bible.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Christine...Don't bet on them not discriminating in your country. They are a church and they believe that only their way is right. They try to convert everyone they help and there are strings attached to all their help. If you check, you will find that just like other aid organizations in Australia the Salvation Army doesn't help the indigenous population as much as the white population.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Well Well Well, what a situation(three holes in the ground) *smile*The salvation Army here in Australia is a church and activly involved in helping anybody of any religion in a practical way with clothes, food, things for homes.   They helped activly when a few suburbs burnt down. *smile*Here the Salvation army doesn't discriminate at all.  Due to being a multicultural society it probably over years past definately more than 30 because I used to go and help them and go there there were people of all different races, handicaps etc  involved with them. I guess what we lack in some areas makes up for in others. But everyone has a right to their opinion.  This subject seems odd to me but I am down under, we in the Australian Capital Territory have the help and support that can be provided to everyone that our Salvation Army can provide within its means and charities.Love Christine  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Salvation Army Turns Away Disabled, African-Americans, & Women! November 18, 2004 8:51 AM

**NEW Petition - Anti Salvation Army Racist Org! Let The Federal Executive Branch, Federal Legislative Branch, Federal Judicial Branch & State Local & Tribal Governments know that you want a mandate issued for the dissolution of The Salvation Army and its Affiliates. Tell them we will NOT ALLOW racist, bigoted, embezzling ANTI HUMAN RIGHTS groups to pretend to help those in need in this country while they lie to and deceive us to line their own pockets and push their private agendas! There is a wide array of reasons why people should boycott Salvation Army but allow me to touch on a few reasons here today:In the beginning, the Salvation Army was about personal salvation. As General William Booth's understanding grew, that salvation took on personal, social, and eschatological dimensions. "Salvation from pinching poverty, from rags and misery, must be offered to ALL," he wrote. My Personal ExperienceDuring the floods caused by Hurricane Ivan our family was devastated. We live in an area within the designated emergency zone and have been declared by FEMA a legitimate flood disaster victim. Salvation Army returned a contact call made to them for assistance and directed us over 50 miles from our home to receive assistance. After arriving with proof and all the requested documentation we were turned away because my husband is African-American! Even a local TV station taking donations from African-Americans to give to Salvation Army lied to us and said they would straighten things out, but WPXI just the injustice go forward. My husband was accused of being a liar, a leech, and Salvation Army even tried to say the town in which we live didn’t even really exist! Glad to know there is help out there when we need it. I am also oh so happy that money taken from African-American Families is NOT going to help African-Americans in need. What a great “Christian” messages they are sending!Read More About What The Salvation Army Has & Is Doing.....Anti Salvation Army - Boycott & Disband Racist Orginization!http://www.thePetitionSite.com/takeaction/616816613Please help by signing this petition.
