 Be Prepared - Petition-athon looming! June 22, 2006 2:40 AM

Hi all,

The Bonobo petition now has over 1,000 signatures, a good start for any normal petition, but the Bonobo petition is not a normal petition. For a start its unlikely that much will be done by our governments without a really significant sign of public support. In addition, if we take the maths at face value, it is likely that 4,000 of the remaining 5,000 Bonobos will be eradicated within the next TWELVE MONTHS.

Therefore, it is clear that we need to do quite a bit more than simply sign this petition and pass it on to a few friends - we all need to push extremely hard to get maximum signatures in the shortest possible time.

In July we are going to hold a "Petition-athon", the idea is that each group member will be asked to send petition requests to at least 100 people. It is our hope to put 10,000 signatures on our petition as quickly as possible - if all 585 members were to ask 100 people to sign, and if those recipients were all unique then that would mean we would ask more than 58,000 people to sign and by my estimates that would deliver somethnig like 7,000 signatures.

In addition, we plan to launch an international media campaign at the same time in the hope that a further 3,000 signatures will be generated. Again we will need your help - our press release needs to get the widest possible coverage - it needs to be brought to the attention of news editors and posted on animal forums everywhere.

This will be our first major action for the Bonobo and I hope that we can rely on each group member to play their part.

Well i thought i have been very busy with all the last couple of days and hope i have proved myself worthy, therefore i couldnt wait till july so have now posted in English and Dutch to all in groups im manager of other groups etc have in total sent out 220 e-mails with picture lol.  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

This is good Tara - It's called pre-advertising and every little helps.

I have applied to be on a new reality game show, designed for activists. I hope this may allow our cause to get some real high profile. It will be shot in September and will go out weekly from October.

Nice one Jessie, good idea, oh i have had e-mails back from people saying thanks good luck and they have signed, i got one back this morning, saying it had been read by over 8500 people , now whether that was groups etc that he belongs to plus e-mail address etc , i dont know but if its all true then whoohoo this is now really picking up George dont you think? hugs to all and i think we are really doing a good job now.*goldstar* for all lol  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]
