Helping Women Farmers in Uganda help themselves
14 years ago
Dear All,

Thank you for everything you are all doing.I was wondering whether you can help me or support us in any way possible to look for and find help.

My name is Paula Kyabaggu and I joined a women's association called Uganda Mushroom Growers' Association. Its about 6 months now since I started trying to help them find market for their produce here in Kampala,Uganda. They grow oyster mushrooms.

These women have been growing mushrooms for the past 10 years and for many of them it is their only source of income and a way they are trying to fight poverty, educate their children and basically find a means of survival however hard it has been. The majority are also the sole bread winners of their households.

It hurts me so much that as an individual I am not able to raise funds or get any kind of donation to help these women apart from trying to look for market for their produce in my free time.

These women are well organised they even have a chair person, they are fully registered with our government BUT they absolutely have no source of funding. Many people have promised them help but they end up only raising their hopes then badly crushing them. They also have a postal address and a bank account, all in the association's name.

I don't want to make such promises so I have told them I will do whatever I can to get them support and any sort of help.So far I have started designing a website (Domain name will be )for them so that maybe once it is up people will get to know about them on top of finding market for their produce(here in Uganda to start with).I was also hoping to open up an e-gold account for the association so that in case someone wants to donate online they can do it through their e-gold account.(Paypal doesn't work here in Uganda)

Can you help us in anyway? Please write and let us know.Suggestions are also very welcome.Thank you very much.

warm regards
Paula Kyabaggu
