We are here to discuss music that promotes peace, social and environmental justice and positive change for all societies. We are interested in all styles and genres of music from every generation and every era.
We post a lot of song lyrics here and we have a great library of protest songs in our blue pinned threads, and a cool album of songs written by our own members in the Homegrown Protest Songs thread.
We are always interested in the songs, poems and stories of our members, so please feel welcome to post your stuff, links to your websites etc. And we are always interested in hearing about up coming events, protest rallies, concerts and news reports.
This is a growing and evolving group and every new member is invited to make it their own....

Hi, obviously I am new to this group. I think it will be a good place to release some steam(through music). I am a disabled veteran, I am a peace loving, god fearing, patriotic American as well.
9/11 was a pretext for war and an excuse to continually erode our Constitutional rights. This angered me and I started researching 9/11, and haven't stopped yet. My website is http://www.freewebs.com/911Truther Please visit if you can. I believe if more people had an open and critical mind while investigating this most important topic, the evidence will speak for itself.
Here is a protest song by Martin Noakes.. One of my favorites.
Hello! Coming from the underground hip-hop world........ April 01, 2007 6:10 PM
Hello all! I'm a huge underground hip-hop listener... what I like to call intellectual hip-hop. Rhymesayers label from Minnesota has some of my favorite artists.
On February 15th, moveon.org (a wonderful progressively peaceful organization) hosted a video night about the soldiers in Iraq. It showed all of the emotional stress the soldiers undergo, and never recover from. A lady who attended the showing hasn't seen her son in 3 years since he was first released on leave from Iraq. The military scared him so badly into believing that they would hurt his family if he went AWOL, that he hasn't even been home once. The painful look in his mother's eyes was unforgettable.
Track 8, Murder Of Memories, off of Eyedea & Abilities (E&A) First Born CD perfectly describes the mental agony that the soldiers endure. Why do we keep ruining our young people with war? Why must they send more?
Thank you for inviting me, Archie! April 02, 2007 2:19 PM
Being a child of the 60's, protest songs were abundant. Some of my favorites: Niel Young-Tin Soldiers, Buffalo Springfield-anything, Joan Baez-Joe Hill, Pete Seeger (and the Weavers)-anything.
I'm really looking forward to discussions and exchange of ideas!
We haven't had this many new members in awhile! Thank you all for joining.
There is a lot to discuss regarding protest music right now because there is a lot going wrong in our world. And the cutting edge artists of today know it and are responding to it-- but the traditional media outlets are ignoring them. There is actually more new protest music now than there was in the sixties, but most people don't get to hear it. And the old songs seem to be taking on a whole new aura of relevance....
And that's what we're here for, to share the light!
Thanks for the invite. This group is AWESOME! I've been a folk-freak for more years than I care to remember. The only good thing I've found about where I live is the Woody Guthrie Festival every July ...
Sitting here listening to covers of Pete Seeger songs. I believe, with all my heart, that the music makes a difference. I went through Viet Nam, and as far as I'm concerned, "Iraq is Arabic for Viet Nam." Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone.
Thanks so much for the invite! I received it a few days ago..I must tell you that I actually went to protest the war in Iraq in Washington, DC this year.. I took my daughter..in the hopes that she would realize..she made a difference.. the only lyrics I can contribute is.. "all we are saying...is give peace a chance" this was sung John Lennon style by people my age... 40 plus It was sung "rap"style after we were done.... by the younger crowd.. way cool that a song, one song stretched generations! and still sounded good either way!
