Peace Prayers February 24, 2005 12:57 PM

Native American Prayer for Peace

O Great Spirit of our

Ancestors, I raise

my pipe to you.

To your messengers the four winds, and

to Mother Earth who provides

for your children.

Give us the wisdom to teach our children

to love, to respect, and to be kind to each

other so that they may grow

with peace in mind.

Let us learn to share all good things that

you provide for us on this Earth.

Sikh Prayer for Peace

God adjudges us according

to our deeds,

not the coat that we wear:

that truth is above everything,

but higher still is truthful living.

Know that we attaineth God when we loveth,

and only that victory

endures in consequences of which no

one is defeated.

Hopi Peace Prayer June 07, 2005 5:44 PM

To all our relations:

"Above all, the powerful weapons that are in your hands will doom the earth into becoming a likeness of the moon. Remember that We too have weapons of a kind that no man on earth can tame."

The Hopi Elders

Let us Pray in this Important time in History

"Great Sprit and all unseen, this day we pray and ask you for guidance, humbly we ask you to help us and fellow men to have recourse to peaceful ways of life, because we ask You to help us and fellow men to have recourse to peaceful ways of life, because of uncontrolled deceitfulness by humankind. Help us all to love, not hate one another.

We ask you to be seen in an image of Love and Peace. Let us be seen in beauty, the colors of the rainbows.

We respect our Mother, the planet & our corn fields, with our loving care, from Her breast we receive our nourishment.

Let us not listen to the voices of the two-hearted, the destroyers of mind, the haters of self-made leaders, whose lusts for power and wealth will lead us into confusion and darkness. Seek visions always of world beauty, not violence not battlefields.

It is our duty to pray always for harmony between man and earth, so that the earth will bloom once more. Let us show our emblem of love and goodwill for all life and land.

Pray for the House of Glass, (United Nations) Pray for within it are minds clear and pure as ice and mountain streams.

Pray for the great leaders of nations in the House of Mica who in their own quiet ways help the earth in balance.

We pray the Great Sprit that one day our Mother Earth will be purified into a healthy peaceful one.

Let us Sing for strength of wisdom with all nations for the good of all people. Our hope is not yet lost, purification must be to restore the health of our Mother Earth for lasting peace and happiness, Techqua Ikachi ---- for Land and Life!

"Together with all Nations we Hold this World in Balance"

St. Francis of Assisi's prayer for peace June 23, 2005 11:51 AM

I have just joined this discussion group and would like to share with you the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi (the lover of peace and animals):

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life
.

I hope you find this prayer an inspiration. Peace be with you all.

The Metta Sutta-- The Buddhas discourse on peace and loving kindness to all beings

This is what should be done By one who is skilled in goodness,

And who knows the path of peace: Let them be able and upright,

Straightforward and gentle in speech. Humble and not conceited,

Contented and easily satisfied Unburdened with duties and frugal in their ways.

Peaceful and calm, and wise and skilful, Not proud and demanding in nature.

Let them not do the slightest thing That the wise would later reprove.

Wishing: in gladness and in safety, May all beings be at ease.

Whatever living beings there may be; Whether they are weak or strong, omitting none,

The great or the mighty, medium, short or small, The seen and the unseen,

Those living near and far away, Those born and to-be-born --

May all beings be at ease! Let none deceive another, or despise any being in any way

Let none through anger or ill-will Wish harm upon another.

Even as a mother protects with her life Her child, her only child,

So with a boundless heart Should one cherish all living beings;

Radiating kindness over the entire world: Spreading upwards to the skies,

And downwards to the depths; Outwards and unbounded,

Freed from hatred and ill-will. Whether standing or walking, seated or lying down,

Free from drowsiness, One should sustain this recollection.

This is said to be the sublime abiding. By not holding to fixed views,

The true-hearted one, having clarity of vision, Being freed from all sense desires,

Is not born again into this world "

anonymous beautiful! December 21, 2006 5:47 PM

I just joined the group, this is the first discussion that I view and I already feel at the right place! Thank you all for your beautiful prayers! Myself I also like to use creative visualisation as a part of the praying process. I visualise the outcome of what I pray for (no matter whether it's just a personal wish or a beautiful dream about how I would like the world to be), and also the positive emotions commected with it. Then I also add: "Dear God, I don't see the higher picture of Your Divine Plan about this topic, so thank you for listening to me but may Your will be done." I also have a question: Yesterday I started a new discussion in the Amnesty International group. It actually feels even more suitable for your Peace and Nonviolence Network - am I allowed to start it also here? I'm new on the website and still try to get orientated.  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

Hello!
I am new here, too. I express my deep THANK YOU to each of you who share your lovely prayer! I especially appreciate The Native Prayer of Peace!! I will be teaching it to all 10 of my grandchildren! If we have Native genes they're rather diluted, however, I can say we Native souls - that deep spirituality. Grandpa, (my hubby), on the other hand, is 1/4 Cherokee. When my children were young and studying Native Americans in schools, the teacher would invite me in to share artifacts, legends, histories, and, truths, to help the students better understand all the goodness of the culture. So, I was then known as "The Indian Lady". Now, my younger grandchildren are in elementary school and my sons have asked me to teach them of Native ways. I'm giving each of them a copy of the prayer!!!
Thank you!

Sanskit Prayer January 01, 2007 7:59 AM

Peace to all...

I too am new here, and wish to share an ancient Sanskrit prayer that all members of the drug and alcohol treatment center where I used to work at would recite together, holding hands, before the start of every new day:

Look to this day for it is life

The very life of life

In it's brief course lie all the verities and realities of existence;

The bliss of growth, the splendor of action, the glory of divine power

For yesterday is but a dream

And tomorrow is only a vision

But TODAY...well lived

Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness

And every tomorrow a vision of hope

Look well, therefore, to THIS day!!!

Namaste,

Ed

"We frail humans are at one time capable of the greatest good and, at the same time, capable of the greatest evil. Change will only come about when each of us takes up the daily struggle ourselves to be more forgiving, compassionate, loving, and above all joyful in the knowledge that, by some miracle of grace, we can change as those around us can change too.

Peace Prayer and Song August 21, 2007 4:42 PM

    Here's the Link.

Ah Ho (Mitakuye oyasin)

Ah Ho, for all my relations
For all of my brothers all over the Earth
For all the people of every nation
That’s what our planethood’s worth

Ah Ho, for all my relations
For all of my sisters all over the world
For all that lives in every corner of creation

Grandfather, grant us this gift
Of peace

The river rushes over the rocks
The clouds sit on the mountain tops
The love light’s shinin’ in your eyes
The eagle circles in the sky

Ah Ho, for all my relations
For all of my brothers all over the Earth
For all the people of every nation
That’s what our planethood’s worth

Ah Ho, for all my relations
For all of my sisters all over the world
For all that lives in every corner of creation
Grandfather, grant us this gift

Of peace
And love for all things

Ah Ho, Mitakuye oyasin

Peace Prayer and Meditation

A call to meditate for peace in every land ...
Lake by the North Sea, The Netherlands; photo credit Stan Schaap
Lord, we each and everyone
See You shining as a sun.

Radiant bright You are our light
Keep us sheltered in Thy sight.

In every culture, language, clime
We feel Your presence in our time.

We look to You and in our way
Call out our need and daily pray.

With peace our present beck and call
Lord, keep us centered, one and all.

And as we try with all our might
Keep us striving toward the light.

May Your peace spread through all lands
So together we stand, hand in hand.

Prayers of Love for the World this Holiday Season and Always December 20, 2007 11:41 AM

Love Is

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy.
Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude.
It is not self-seeking, nor easily angered.
It keeps no record of wrongdoing.
It does not delight in evil,
but rejoices in the truth.
Love always protects, trusts, hopes, and preserves.
There is nothing love cannot face.
There is no limit to its faith, hope, and endurance.
In a word, there are three things that last forever:
Faith, hope, and love.
But the greatest of them all is love.

-1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Wishing you splendid love for the Holidays and always.

Nearly, 40 years ago, Robert Kennedy said, "There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why... I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?"

Let us all in this New Year of 2008, only five years away from 12.12.12, DREAM DEEPLY, FULLY AND MANIFESTLY OF THINGS THAT WILL BE, and demand why not?

Joyous New Year!
