Hi, I have ten cats, the oldest being 16 years old this month, Ticky has been with us since he was 8 weeks old, 3 horses who I all bred, and are now 20 years and 17 years old. I have a palomino gelding, palomino mare and  a thoroughbred mare.

I have 7 pet sheep, they are all ewes, but I have one of them Angie, she stays around the house here, she's very intelligent and very bossy. Have one rooster and one hen.

That's all that in my animal family at the moment, but any stray that comes along is perfectly welcome to join us lol

Havent had no dog members in the family since my 18 year old little foxie cross Triton died two years. I sort of had a nervous breakdown when I lost him, and haven't been able to have another dog since.

Please everybody write in about your pets, we would love to hear all about them because we certainly know how they make your lives better and I need proof that I am not the only one with alot of them lol

Simone, you have so many of them.  How do you give the good care for all of them?  Do you also interact with them daily?

Currently I have 3 male parakeets; they speak 2 languages.  And I love them dearly; it's so much joy to have them.  They are very attentive and know me when I arrive home.

Please Visit My BO BO's Photo Album July 23, 2006 1:22 AM

My Bo Bo was a Vegan Dog until my sis spoilt him. He's with her now until I find a house for myself as I currently live in an apartment and you can't keep dogs there. He's very cute, intelligent, gentle & loving. However, it's very difficult for him to socialize with other dogs, animals or humans as he does not trust anyone but me. I'm not sure why...

Debbie Hogan

This is Rizzy...aka Ratso Rizzo. My husband and I adopted him a couple of years ago from a brilliant shelter run by former Oakland A's baseball coach Tony LaRussa. In fact, Mr. LaRussa would have adopted Rizzy himself, had he been at teh shelter another week. As it was, he spoke to us personally, thanking us for giving Rizzy a good home. Nice guy...and Rizzy had been given such excellent training through a program Mr. LaRussa developed involving a penitentiary for female juveniles who worked with cats who had special needs. Rizzy was born feral, basically , and was adopted by a somewhat naive good samaritan from whom he escaped and was hit by a car. Poor thing is an amputee (left hind leg) but you wouldn't know it to watch him. He's SO active. A bit too active at times, in fact. He pesters my 13 year old Cheshire female (sorry, no visual reference for her just yet) mercilessly but she keeps him in line. I adopted her, myself , from the Oakland SPCA where I work. I have a soft spot for older cats as well as those with an unusual disposition and/or background. Couldn't resist this one. Heh

Beautiful picture, Catherine...and Morris, your Huskies are stunning. Nick, your Bo Bo looks like quite a character. I guess all pets pick their favorites and dogs are fiercely loyal to those who care for them. One thing I'm curious about , though....A vegan dog ? Forgive my ignorance but how is that possible ? Are you sure it's healthy ? I'm not criticising or questioning the way you care for Bo Bo. He obviously loves you...but I've always thought dogs were basically carnivorous. How did you pull that off ?  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

VEGGIE DOGS One major dilemma for vegetarians is feeding meat to our companion animals. Once we’ve decided not to support factory farming, can we justify feeding animal products to our companions? We’ve often made a moral exception for our companions based on the idea that there are no other options for our canine friends. Many vegetarians and vegans are unaware that dogs can be healthy on a vegetarian/vegan diet.

Pet foods really are the worst of the worst, full of cancerous tissue and animal parts ‘not fit for human consumption’ (please see 'What’s Really in Pet Food'). Do we really want to be feeding this to our animals? After all, we are their guardians and want to make sure they are healthy. After all, we do have some viable options for our animals that we can be comfortable with in our kitchen.

I first tried feeding my three dogs a vegan diet by cooking the food at home based on recipes from a book. While I did not mind the extra time it took, the dogs did not really like it and they started to lose weight. I talked to some other folks with veggie dogs and decided to give the pre-made kibble a try. I did my research and decided to go with a food approved by the Association of American Feed Control Officials. A basic goal of AAFCO is "to provide regulations, standards and enforcement policies to regulate the manufacture, distribution, and sale of animal feeds; resulting in safe, effective, and useful food". While I do not completely agree with their practices nor am I completely convinced it is essential for a food to be complete, it gave me a sense of ease. Ultimately what it means is that the food is supplemented with vitamins and nutritionally complete by their definition.

I tried a few brands and settled on one that the dogs really like and have been very healthy on for the last three years. In fact, this is the best they have ever looked, especially the fifteen year old! They all love their daily supply of fresh organic veggies too. I haven’t completely given up the idea of making food for them again. There is a supplement called VegDog that is listed as complete and needs to be added to homemade food every day.

From talking with other folks, I realize this is still a controversial issue with. I find reassurance in that if dogs can be just as healthy (or even healthier in many cases) not consuming animals then there really is no reason to not at least give it a try. Based on a combination of my and other’s experiences wi  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

with dogs doing well on a veg diet and the AAFCO approved foods on the market leaves us no ethical option but to try our dogs as vegetarians. I am confident I’m not risking my dogs’ health and feel great to not have to go buy that bag of lamb and rice dog food every month.
-Krissi Vandenberg, Executive Director, Vegan Action

Before you switch you dog to a vegan diet, please do your research to make sure that the food you have chosen for your dog is a complete and balanced diet. When in doubt- don't risk your dogs health- consult a veterinarian.

Please note: Vegan Action does not recommend that people switch felines to a vegan diet. From our experience, most cats exhibit a failure to thrive on the diet or stop eating.

Hope you can find a proper place and can get your dog back on track. This sounds like a good way to go. May check out turning my cats into "veggies", particularly my older one, as she is 13 years old , a tad overweight, and has some digestive problems.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I have six cats....all rescues...

Maxmillion, Bosley, Sweet Pea, Bitty Moosh, Ruby, and Mr. Stash.

I've thought about going vegan with them, but the cost would be prohibitive.  Besides, I tried some of the vege-cat canned food once, and my kitties didn't really like it.  I may try again if I can afford it later.

Was a pleasure to read about everyone's animal friends.

My babies.... August 13, 2006 12:35 AM

Debo ~ A.K.A ~ "Mommy's little man" is an 8 month old APBT who is the love of my life. We have had him since he was 5 weeks old.

Skylar was my dad's dog and we took her with us after he passed away. She's approx. 6 yrs. old. She had heartworms but was treated and is fine now. She was listed at the vet's as a Jack Russell Terrier X but I think she looks like a Rat Terrier.

Kori is my younger son's dog. She is 1 yr old and we have had her since she was 6 weeks old. She is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

Tippi is approx. 8 yrs old. We "rescued" her from an irresponsible home. As a puppy she was thrown down some stairs and the people that we got her from had let their little dogs "attack" her. She had heartworms but went through the treatment and is now fine. She is a Lab X.

Kota is a 12 yr old Quarter/App X. We have had him since he was 6 mos old. He was a birthday present from my husband.

Buddy is my daughters horse and he is approx. 13 yrs. old. We call him a Quarter X but aren't really sure of his "nationality".

JoJo is my daughter's cat. He is 1 yr old and due to my allergies has to stay outside.

Sushi is my daughter's Beta.

I have pics of them all except for the cat and fish in my albums. Not sure how to post them here. (I am computer retarded right now)

Beauty August 13, 2006 8:52 AM

BeautyThis is one of my pets, Beauty. She lived behind me chained in a dog lot. She was allowed to run free once in awhile and that is when she started staying with me. Her owner finally let me have her. She is now pampered and lives the life of luxury. I have had her about 6 years now and she is my baby. I have enjoyed seeing all the pictures here of everyone's babies. I also enjoy the stories about them.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

 August 13, 2006 12:25 PM

Simone,   Yes, my daughter found Rocky and his sister and 2 brothers at a river close by. She kept 1, her friend kept 1(both males) and gave me the 2 females. At least they thought Rocky was a female. Rosie became Rocky when I took them to the vet to be fixed. I had to pay more for him for an extra operation to fix the problem. Mikey was found by a Security guard where I work. Thank God he heard him when he was putting trash in. I love them all. I have 2 more cats, 1 turtle and 9 hampsters.

Best Friends 4.jpg

Both are rescued cats from our local branch of the Friends of Ferals group, a wonderful bunch of people! Murphy (left, red haired Irishman!) is king of his world and basks in the love and adoration of the bevy of females in his life including Sylvia, (right, wearing the immaculate tuxedo!) who is one year older. We are blessed by their presence in our lives and wish we could afford to bring more animals into our home!   Lark

A lovely place of the group August 29, 2006 10:59 AM

I must admit everybody, I really love this part of the group, this is actually where I come when the cruelty gets to me, I come here and look and read about all the animals that are the lucky ones, the ones that are loved and looked after-and its here that I can rest for awhile and are comforted by this- so please keep the photos, stories or whatever you all want to post because it does makes my days brighter knowing there are animals out there being loved and out there are all you loving people to them. Then I can go back again and be stronger to fight.

I decided to use a different picture and forgot to rename the subject.

Roscoe (Daisy's brother) has unfortunely passed.  He and Bijou are/were actually my boyfriends dogs.  When Bijou had the pups I chose Daisy (well, she chose me too) and so she is the only one that actually lives with me though her and Bijou are together every day.

Here is a picture of all three.  I sure miss Roscoe.  He was such a ham and such a sweet baby.

Kathy! I used to have the same problem last time. Im not sure what the others here use to post their pets pics here...but I personally would suggest you log onto this site and download the Flock(Beta) Photobucket Browser so that it will make it so much easier for you to simply " Drag & Drop" your fav photos onto this page!! Its that easy. But you have download that browser first...upload all your pictures that u like etc...and "VOILA!"(French)..."ITU SAJA."(Malay)......its done!

Hope I didnt miss anything out here?.

The Flock Browser Download Page

and have a nice day...

Posting pics August 29, 2006 1:35 PM

I think the easiest way to post the pictures is to go into your photo album and click on the pic you want to post.  Click "copy" and then when you get back over to the group to post, just click "paste".  It may not work for everyone but that's how I do it.

Hope it works for you

I am owned by 3 feline ladies.I have pics somewhere that I will try to find and post here.

The oldest,Paddiwak,is a 9 year old long haired calico

Then there is her daughter,NikNak,who is 8 and also a long haired calico

The baby,Dog(don't ask) is 7 and is a shorthaired brown tabby

They are all very friendly and affectionate and take over my bed every night.Sadly they are currently indoor cats as I live in a first floor apartment next to a very busy road. They have adjusted well.I hope to move to a more rural area within the next few months before the final move to California in a couple of years time.

They have been a joy and a great comfort to me and my son through good times and bad.

My dream is to have a smallholding where I can have ducks and goats and maybe a donkey and a horse.I would like a llama but Robert says that maybe this would be a bit much.

1 dog, Wunjo (the rune for Joy) we got him from some people who had rescued him and his brothers and sisters from a very unsavory character.

9 cats, Bramble and Lily, two sisters found with 3 others living under an outlet pipe. They are wildies and will not come in the house, but we stroke them when they will allow and feed them far too much LOL and of course we have had them neutered. They are lovely ladies but very shy, even with us.

Fey and Shadow, the twins, their owner just didn't want the hassle of kittens, so they came to live with us. They come and go as they please and although they visit a lot during the day they hate it if you close the door. (Shadow has been known to try to escape through the glass pane of a closed window.) Neutered now naturally.

Pixie and Aslan, brother and sister who came to us from a lady who has too many cats (her confession), but won't have them neutered so consequently she has kittens every year. It makes me cry. Her husband, she says, drowns the ones she can't get homes for and they are such scrawny mal-nourished little things. Oh I despair. So last year we had these two to live with us and very lovely they are too. Neutered too.

Darla. From the same lady as Pixie and Aslan, only one of this years kittens, and I have two more to come in about a week. (I cannot leave them there to be drowned by her husband) I am hoping my mum will take one of them, if not they will join the family and we'll see what happens. I have been in touch with the local RSPCA lady and she is going to try and get her to have the females neutered so at least there will be no more kittens next year. Finger's crossed.

Drusilla. She came to us from a lady who kept lots (and I mean lots) of dogs, and six thin and flea ridden cats, 4 of them female and all of them with kittens. They only ate raw meat and they were full of worms. We went up to collect something and came back with a kitten aswell. (I am such a push over for a hard luck story)

Pandora. She is my baby, a lovely little thing who lived wild on the farm next door with her brother and sister. They ate what they could catch and lived under a shed.

The last three are only 4 months old and will be neutered when they are old enough.

We also have 6 rats and 11 baby ratlets (rescued from a lady with a serious overcrowding problem)

4 Guinea Pigs, Chocolate and Shiloh, Caramel and Cassie.

6 Rabbits, (all rescues from abandonment or overcrowding)

1 Ferret, Barnaby, a complete nutter who chases round the garden with the dog!!!

1 Bengal Eagle Owl, Keeva, my husbands pride and joy. A lovely boy, he plays with my 2 year old daughter and she loves him to bits. He sits on her feet and pulls at the bottoms of her trousers until she gets down on the floor to play with him.

5 tropical fish, including a large Angel fish, adopted from a neighbour of my mum's when he got sick and had to move back in with his mum.

2 finches given to my son by a very kind lady we had only just met, just because he liked them and it is his birthday in 10 days. She breeds them and Ethan loves birds. She also gave him a cage and enough food to feed them for about 6 months. (We only went in to enquire about some goats but that's another story!!!  LOL)

2 Bantams adopted through the local freecycle network.

10 hens and a cockerel adopted through the same freecycle network. They are rescues from an egg factory. As soon as the laying starts to decline they are all taken to be killed and made into pies. These 11 birds are a few of the ones they just couldn't catch in time for them to make it to the truck for the pie place. So they would have been killed and just tossed into the trash!

We have only had them a couple of weeks. They all have bare patches everywhere and lovely temperaments. They also laid 5 eggs on the way home in the bus!!! So much for a drop in production. They lay about 3 eggs a day so we have tons of eggs now. It's great, they wander around the paddock looking at everything very closely because they're not used to being outside. I could cry for all the ones that didn't make it.

Well that's us. I don't think I left anyone out. It is like Barnum and Bailey here some days, and as for dinner time, well that really is feeding time at the zoo. But I love it, I have always been an animal person not a people person. I love all my animals dearly, (even the ones who run away with my shoes/bra/paper/toilet roll while I'm on the loo/brand new packet of biccies)  and at least I'm never bored.   I will post piccies if the bandwidth can take it

Congratulations for making it to the end. Thanks for reading about my loves.

Blessings and Peace.

Elvin.

I have a Border Collie cross Retriever, who is about 3 years old. She is my rock, my constant companion. She is a nudger, and i have encouraged her to do this. I have trained her to pick up things I have dropped. She is a good, cuddly dog. I do need her to be that way. She naturally will go get my mum, If I am having a major problem.

I give her cruelity free Petguard Lifespan adult dog food. I get her Petguard Barky treats. I give her kibble I have made her from the Pitcairn recipies. She gets good organic meat.

Thanks go to Simone for the Iames Kills link she provided recently. I forgot in what group I saw that. I didn't know any of that about Iames. I'm going to share that with all my friends. I'm sure they were like me, and didn't know.

my baby asa spades September 23, 2006 2:45 PM

my 9 year-old staffy IS the best dog on the face of the earth!! she was stolen from a dog fighting ring when she was roughly 5-6 months. her head was still HUGE enough that it was hard for her to run straight without veering off to one side or another. the dog fighting ring was eventually broken up, but since it was being run by the local police, it took 6 years to bust it up. she is a staffordshire, no doubt about that. we think they were breeding staffies and pits to fight against each other, so they could know who would take the fall. she was stolen & raised by a friend of mine, & was in my care by the time she was six. we have been all over the country together, from the rocky mountains, to swimming in the gulf of mexico. from swimming in the east river to the deserts of texas & new mexico, the jungle of puerto rico, she has seen it all with me. we currently live on an island where staffies & pits are not legal. since cock fighting is legal, there is no way to get the people to stop fighting dogs (when it is legal to hurt animals, why not fight them all??), so they would rather ban the dog than change the law. very furstrating! but she is smart, warm, and has SUCH a personality! this is a dog that can get into the fridge, chases frogs, but leaves little lizards alone, loves to run & spin around in circles, and has no aggression what-so-ever. even our local police pet her on our morning walks. i consider myself the luckiest girl in the world that i have asa in my life, and donate a lot of my time to helping other animals due to her.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Here he is! As you can see, he's more ginger than auburn.

Here's my big boy! As you can see, he's actually more ginger than Auburn.

hello November 17, 2006 1:18 PM

hello everyone...... well, let's see, where do i start..... i have two make pekignese's and they are brothers *Max and Snoopy*. We got them both because they were the last two left of the litter and the conditions there were pretty bad, so we couldn't just leave one behind and not know if he'd ever get a home or not, so they are both with us. I have a little toy yorkie *Mia* i have a shih tzu, and she was more of a rescue than anything *Sasha* I have a miniature pekingese female *Gypsy* i have two sisters that are shih tzu/poodle mix *Sushi and Asia*.....the lady who owned the mother didn't get her spayed, and she got out to the neighbor's backyard where the father lives and well the rest is history, however, since she didn't want them, she was literally going to take the newborn puppies to the pound, which first of all it's NOT the puppies fault, and it's also NOT the mother/father dogs fault, it's just another example of owners being irresponsible, but anyways, all of the puppies from that litter found good loving homes and two of them are with me i have an 11 year old mix *Peanut* that we rescued from the euthanasia section at the local shelter....she was about 6 months old, they said she had a broken back and would never walk again. Well, the shelter didn't have an x-ray machine, because when we finally won the fight to get her out, she just had a fractured pelvis which healed, and apparently the reason for her injuries was she was beaten by someone, because if you call her name a certain way or make certain movments, she cowers and sometimes pees, poor thing, i hate it, because she's been in this home since she was a puppy and she was never hit, but whoever first beat her, it's going to always be in her mind and no matter how much she is pampered here, it's forever ingrained in her head Finally, lol, i have a tuxedo female cat *Bella*, and her story is a rescue also, she and her siblings were found behind a dumpster at a local mall here and they had just opened their eyes a few days before, so they were TINY, and my friend worked at the mall, and the store he works at was actually right where they were found, so of course knowing the animal lover i am, he called me, and i came to pick them up and raised them, found homes for them and kept one.... ACTUALLY, how could i forget, i have a turtle *King Tut* that was actually a rescue, my mom found him under a truck in the parking lot of her job *she works at a school, but there was NO water around for miles* so we have NO idea where the turtle came from, but the bottom of his shell when we first got him, you could tell he had been living on asphalt or some rough surface for awhile and we eventually got him a little girlfriend, lol, and her name is Scarlet  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi Simone....  don't worry about hte questions!  If there's one thing that's true about every single person here it's :  We all LOVE to talk about our fur-kids!!

My husband (boyfriend at the time) and I were trying to figure a name for this sweet little beagle baby girl (who picked me to be her Mom, but that's another story) and we were having a tough time of it...  My hubby was/is a huge Indiana Jones movie fan and, if you'll remember, at the end of the third one the guys calls Harrison Ford's character Indiana and his father (played by Sean Connery) says "Indiana?  Indiana...  that was the dogs name".

Welp... there you go...

Hi Simone November 18, 2006 8:21 AM

Yes I had all my feline girls since they were very young Minxie and Molly were about 3 months old when I adopted them and Missy was about 6 months old...Molly is very timid and shy...I'm not sure why she's that way...because I've treated them all the same - I spoiled them....Minxie was very much the dominant cat in the house and in some ways still is...the girls miss her so much...they look for her constantly (even though I brought her home and showed them her body)...and Missy is the gregarious and outgoing cat...and as for Meisha...she's 5 years old...and the clown of the house...thank you for being interested in knowing my girls...its good to know there are decent people out there...  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Jack and Simon November 19, 2006 6:46 PM

Jack is my profile photo and this is his brother Simon. I helped deliver them 6/16/97 and eased them over to Rainbow Bridge together 12/29/04. They were and still are the most treasured part of my life along with my children and grands. I still cannot have another dog-the grief remains too raw.
