Transient orcas leave Puget Sound waters October 06, 2009 1:43 PM

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) A pod of five transient killer whales that spent most of September feeding on harbor seals in south Puget Sound has headed south to California waters. The Northwest Fisheries Science Center in Seattle told The Olympian that in the past week the orcas traveled down the coast, showing up Sunday near the California border. Center ecologist Brad Hanson is tracking the pod with a satellite tag that was placed on one of the animals Sept. 20. The seal-eating transients are different from the three pods of Puget Sound orcas that feed on salmon. Information from: The Olympian, http://www.theolympian.com
