Alert: animals abused and seriously neglected in puppy mills
Focus:Animal Welfare
Action Request:Petition
Location:United States
Most of us know what twisted madhouses puppy mills are. If you need more information, just click on the link in the petition description. Caution: it's very graphic and sad.

Ohio has a bill pending to help regulate these nightmares. Please sign to help these dogs! Let them know that the world is watching the state of Ohio, and we expect them to adopt tougher laws to help these dogs.

Stop the dog factories! Over 800 dogs per hour are put to death because of a severe overpopulation problem.

There must be SOMETHING WE CAN DO! Please sign this petition. *blacklab*

Alert: World Vegan Day
Focus:Animal Welfare
Action Request:Celebration
Location:United States

NOVEMBER 1st IS WORLD VEGAN DAY

AN ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF ALL THINGS VEGAN!

World Vegan Day 2005 saw the launch of The Vegan Society's 'Typical Vegans' theme, where we asked vegans all over the world to help prove that anyone and everyone can be vegan. Hundreds of people sent in their photographs and a little bit about themselves and we created a huge picture gallery showcasing vegan diversity. Visit the gallery to read about the 14-year-old world-class diver who has been vegan since birth, the acrobat and clown who has been vegan for 28 years, the former Everton player who was vegan for most of his football career... If you'd like to share your story, there's still time - just visit WVD 2005 to read more and find out how.

If you want to proclaim your veganism to the world, take a look at the great 'Typical Vegan' merchandise available from our online shop and visit the downloads area for funky screensavers and animated cards. If you would like information about veganism and the work of The Vegan Society, visit our main website for all the vegan info you could ever want!

World Vegan Day 2006 promises to be bigger and better than ever before so watch this space for details. If you are planning your own event to celebrate the day, please send details to The Vegan Society and we'll add them to the site.

Alert: Join the Arizona Initiative to Ban Cruel Crates!
Focus:Animal Welfare
Action Request:Volunteer
Location:Arizona, United States

LEARN HOW TO HELP BAN ABUSIVE FACTORY FARMING PRACTICES IN ARIZONA
The cruel and intensive confinement of veal calves and pregnant pigs on industrialized factory farms may soon be banned if enough support is given to a crucial ballot initiative effort now underway in Arizona! This ballot initiative aims to stop cruel, industrialized corporate factory farms in Arizona which place profit ahead of animal welfare. Gestation crates were banned in Florida as a result of a similar grassroots citizen initiative.

Arizona media have written about this initiative and we hope to give this effort much more attention:

The Arizona Republic - February 19, 2006
A Sunless Hell by Matthew Scully

Arizona Capital Times - February 2006
Proposed initiative assures humane treatment for veal calves, pregnant pigs

Arizona Capital Times
Farm initiative is not a secret plot called ‘Invasion of the Vegetarians’

Tuscon Weekly - December 29, 2005
Space Restrictions - Animal-rights advocates, ranchers square off in a battle over animal-confinement practices

The Arizona Republic - September 19, 2005
Initiative opposes confined livestock - Activists call practice 'cruel'

Arizona State University - September 9, 2005
Animal cruelty appalling by Laura Graham

Capitol Media Services - September 8, 2005
Petition drive would enlarge small pens of farm animals

Your immediate help is needed to put a measure on the 2006 ballot that would outlaw the cruel confinement of pregnant pigs and veal calves. This important measure will phase out the use of "gestation crates" for breeding pigs and prevent the use of veal crates for veal calves. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED to collect 200,000 signatures by May 31, 2006 to qualify this initiative for the November 2006 Ballot. Volunteers just like you were instrumental in achieving victories for animals in other states, such as the Florida ballot initiative that banned gestation crates!

If you have not already signed up to help
Arizona Farm Animals, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

These pictures show the tragedy and suffering that animals experience on factory farms everyday. Arizonans for Humane Farms is committed to placing a measure on the ballot that would simply allow animals such as these enough room to turn around and extend their limbs.

THE ANIMALS NEED YOUR HELP NOW! WITH LESS THAN 18 WEEKS LEFT, WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO HELP GATHER SIGNATURES TO HELP US ACHIEVE THIS VICTORY FOR THEM!

WILL YOU COMMIT JUST 3 HOURS PER WEEK TO HELP END THEIR SUFFERING?

Please call the campaign office today at 480.449.7644. We’ll get you set up with all the materials, training and confidence you’ll need. And you’ll be gathering signatures with other compassionate volunteers like yourself who are committed to ending the suffering of farm animals in Arizona.

FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, PLEASE SEE www.YESFORHUMANEFARMS.ORG

The factory farming industry is rallying its troops and organizing an aggressive campaign to defeat this humane initiative. We must do all we can to ensure its passage!

Defeated/
Oppose
Arizona Limit on Agriculture Regulations (SCR 1035)

A resolution proposing an amendment to the state constitution that no law or rule may limit or restrict agriculture. This bill would have stopped any farm animal protection measures from ever becoming law by nullifying any rules or laws pertaining to agriculture enacted after January 1, 2006.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONCERN FOR ARIZONA’S FARM ANIMALS

For more information and to spread the word about this initiative, please contact the Campaign Coordinators (Kari, Reasa & April) at Arizonans For Humane Farms: (480) 449-7644 or info@yesforhumanefarms.org

Alert: If the Seal Slaughter is going to be stopped, you have to keep up the pressure!
Focus:Animal Welfare
Action Request:Petition
Location:Canada
On March 3rd 2006, to an International audience on CNN's Larry King Show, the Canadian Government, through Danny Williams Premier of Newfoundland & Labrador, joined a long list of dispicable animal abusers around the world by attempting to mislead viewers into thinking the Canadian seal slaughter was somehow scientifically humane, and a required part of wildlife management. Read more here if you wish.

Mr. Williams also discredited the good standing and name of a reknowned wildlife advocacy organization, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), by suggesting on this same International broadcast that IFAW was on an FBI terrorist watch list! IFAW has operated for over 30 years, now with more than 200 experienced campaigners, legal and political experts, and internationally acclaimed scientists working from offices in 13 countries around the world.

Having heard the eye witness accounts of the slaughter and seen the motion pictures and sound I feel it's pretty clear who the criminals are here. With government behaviour like this though, I'm beginning to wonder who the real terrorists really are in our society!

Please sign and pass on this petition to show your support for the truth and your abhorence of animal cruelty ...and BOYCOTT CANADIAN SEAFOOD.

Thank you.
