Blog: Make America Better by Voting for Animals

It's frustrating for me to see so many people here on care2 shun politics because they think it's unrelated to protecting wildlife. It has everything to do with it. Where do people think petitions go? Who do they think orgs lobby for wildlife legislation? Every protection, every survival comes down to legislators who are either going to support wildlife or not. For people to be ignorant of this factor is just upsetting. This is why I examined the voting records and constructed a report based on the Humane Society's rankings of politicians based on their pro and anto-animal votes.

Congress and Animals

I also included links to other wildlife endorsements based on pro-wildlife voting records. It occurred to me that Congress had a very partisan difference between which party is pro-wildlife and which one is not. The Republican party, which also takes contributions from oil, gas, mining, and timber industries (an obvious and complete conflict with wildlife) is also the party that votes against wildlife legislation. It makes sense though. Protect the habitat and their contributors can't make profit.

Only 3 out of 10 Repulicans voted pro-animal, where 7 out of 10 Democrats voted pro-animal. Some people don't want to see this. One man has already banned me from his wildlife group and deleted my posts because he doesn't want to acknowledge that his party is the party that votes against his best interests. Ignorance!

To get the ball rolling I wrote a petition to ask the presdiential candidates to pledge to protecting animals and wildlife. If we don't show them we care, they won't care.

I hope you'll all sign!
After all, a nation can be judged by how it treats animals.
