I live in New Deal, TEXAS which is 10 miles from Lubbock TEXAS.I love it here except when we have dust storms in the spring!
I have 3 dogs.2 are Pits & 1 is a Boston Terrier.Booker, my oldest Pit, came from the Tulsa OK Animal Shelter. Buddy, my second Pit, came from the Fulton MO Animal Shelter.Emmy, my Boston, came from the Lubbock Animal Shelter. So I have 3 dogs from 3 different states!
I grew up in St Louis & moved to Tulsa in 1993 & lived there until 2004.During that time I met & married my husband. Also during that time, I was diagnosed as a Bi-Polar I.I had a manic episode & lost my job, my truck, my house & I almost lost my husband.I told my dad what had happened & he helped us move to St Louis & found us a place to live.
We decided that I shouldn’t work anymore so I applied for Social Security Disability.I got it & also found out that I have an Anxiety/Panic disorder! We lived in St Louis for 2 years & my husband wanted to move back TEXAS (where he is from). We decided on Lubbock.
We moved to Lubbock & I went to TEXAS Tech Medical for a Psychiatrist.I’ve had several residents that were my Psychiatrist & have now graduated.I’m glad that I was their patient & was able to help them understand the disease better.
I’m reasonably stable now & I now belong to a Bi-Polar Support group here & I belong to a support group online.I also do walking (I walk dogs at my friend’s kennel), Yoga & meditation as well as taking my medication to keep my disease under control.I’m going back to Tae Kwon Do in the summer.I had to stop for awhile.I’m 2 stripes before my Black Belt. When I get it, I will be one of the oldest students to get one.I hope to go forward & get my Degreed belts.
In the meantime, I’m taking care of my husband, my dogs & doing whatever it takes to get my disease under control.
I'm a feisty red head & look out when I'm on a mission! I've owned Pit Bulls for 22 yrs & know what they are really about. I'll do whatever it takes to save the breed. I also am a Bi-Polar who has her disease controlled with medication, the art & discipline of Tae Kwon Do, & meditation. I moved from St Louis, MO to New Deal, TX & love the freedom we have here.
In my younger days, I was a wild & crazy gal! I have tattoos of, of course, 2 Pit Bull heads, 1 "happy" dog, the Tarakian (Woman Warrior) from Heavy Metal, 1 coyote, 1 tribal coyote, a Native American armband, a moon with clouds & feathers, a butterfly & a shooting star. I want to get some more soon. I also have some piercings...
Oh, yeah, I voted for Kinky Friedman for governor of Texas.
My Philosophy
To have the discipline to live as a Martial Arts Warrior & to use what I've learned from Martial Arts to fight my battles using these strategies.
What Gives Me Hope
That someday I will get my Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do & to fulfill some of my other dreams - owning a horse, building a log cabin.
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
I'd revoke Breed Specific Legislation. I would also make dog fighting a federal offense of not less than 10 years & prosecute anyone who even THINKS about doing it!
What/who changed my life and why
Cesar Milan's TV show on National Geographic. The show is called "The Dog Whisperer. His quote is: "He rehabilitates dogs & trains people". He can rehabilitate any dog including those that are "unsaveable". He has rehabilitated Pit Bulls that have been used for fighting & has a "yard" of about 30 Pit Bulls that live together! That is what caught my attention & has really impressed me about his skills with dogs.
Because of his show & watching how he handles "problem" dogs, I realized that there is a better way to rehabilitate dogs make them adoptable.
I've used some of his simple techniques on my dogs & the dogs at the rescue that I volunteer at. I will attest that they REALLY do work!
Along Came Emmy
(Feb 23)
After Lucy passed away in in June of 2008 we didn't think that we would get another dog. We wanted to mourn the loss of Lucy.&nbs...
