Though I have enjoyed gardening for many clients, it has been most rewarding for me when I've gardened with my family. My love of nature was instilled in me by my mother who taught me, as a young child, to appreciate and develop the beauty of nature. She encouraged me in different ways; by telling me that my small young fingers were just the right size for weeding, or showing me how to take my time and study the beauty of our natural world. The gift that was given to me by my mother has led to many happy hours of gardening. When friends and family first visited my garden they were encouraged to take a “nature walk” through my backyard garden. After a few years they all would ask for the complete tour! (I happily complied). My 31 year old son still smiles every time he sees a crocus. At the time, I never imagined that my love of gardening would lead to anything other than a beautiful back yard. When I decided to study gardening, I didn’t know it would lead me to landscape design and all the wonderful people I’ve met along the way.
Today, I still find the magic and wonder in gardening. Be it the vistas, the plants, the birds or butterflies, when I see the sky touching the tops of the trees, the fragrance after a spring rain, or the first crocus opening in the sun, I’m still filled with the awe of Mother Nature.
As a result of all of this I have developed a deep love for our planet Earth. Now I not only encourage gardening, be it outdoors or on a window sill. I also encourage treating our gardens naturally. By composting our garden trimmings, kitchen scraps of fruits and vegetables, as well as fall leaves, we eliminate the need for hauling it away. This eliminates the emissions from the hauling; (we all know what that is doing to our planet) we also create “black gold” a beautiful rich compost. Compost helps eliminate the need for chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides it also helps retain moisture which saves water. All while giving as healthy and happy plants without polluting the environment.
I believe that the future of our planet lies in the young gardeners in the making.
Grow with your children.
Our planet and the future of our children and grandchildren depend on it.
