What Gives Me Hope 2008 election campaign by Senator Barack Obama. Bill Moyers back on PBS. Mohammed Yunus giving a keynote at a Microsoft event recently. Positive changes in my own life - feeling more of God's security and solidness, less anxious. We are overall less violent than ever before in history. Generation Y.
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by In the U.S.:

Ride-Hitch: Online matching of folks who regularly commute a certain route and have open seats in their auto with folks who need a ride. The folks who need a ride contribute X cents per mile, but less than what gas costs. The driver gets a little $ for the extra space in the car. Background checks are mandatory. There are marked places on the side of the road where people can safely load up and in and re-merge into traffic. No pick-ups from home - only meetings at the rideshare spots. Frees up traffic. Saves gas usage and time for all. Reduces oil dependency.

Family Network: Families with greater resources and/or communication/coping skills paired with those with either lessor resources or those with reduced comm/coping skills; families meet regularly, support one another like their own, learn skills from each other; goal being to stabilize and strengthen adults and children. Incentive would be like tithing -- the good will come. Phone call or email to an overseeing board each week to monitor participation. Tax penalty for those who do not participate or are fraudulent. When we have our own needs met, we can think about others more easily, and as a people, we can more easily invest energy in solving larger issues in the US and abroad.
