I hate that there are only two genders available and I have to pick one, because I identify as dual-gendered -- both a man and a woman -- and prefer to call myself a gentleman though my body is female and I'm cool with that. Agh. Moving along.
I'm a white middle-class kid who speaks Spanish (as a second language), goes to a working-class college, and plans to transfer to an upper-class one. I was born into the high-tech industry to a pair of programmers, and homeschooled exclusively until I started community college classes at age 16. I'm the eldest of four kids and I love my siblings a lot. I'm a full-time student and work as a math tutor. In my spare time I play computer games and read blogs.
Social justice is important to me because I've always been a misfit, one way or another, so I've always been taught to identify with people who are different from me, and so find it relatively easy to sympathize with members of other minorities in their struggles.
I'm religious, and it's important to me, but I don't talk about it much. Politics, on the other hand, I get pretty enthusiastic about. You have been warned.
One of my feet is misshapen because I was burned as a newborn. I had to get skin grafts at the age of one day.
Never turn your back on suffering.
What Gives Me Hope
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
Increase support for children. Extended parental leave, increased support for single parents, free childrearing classes for first-time parents to learn how best to care for their children, support for breastfeeding mothers in the workplace, and a well-funded education system (including payment for homeschooling parents) would be my priorities. Parents and teachers do the most important work in a society, shaping the citizens (and taxpayers) of the future, but parenting is seen as "not working" and teachers are paid far less than they earn. I'd prioritize changing that.

Raffi, because -- he's Raffi. http://childhonouring.org/the-centre/who-we -are/founder.html kind of says it.
