I'm fairly quiet, unless I am around my friends (then I get a bit crazy). I love reading - especially fantasy, and I am a bit of an artist.. I LOVE working in my art journal.. I paint, sketch and printmake. Am obsessed with my camera. I have a degree in archaeology!!! I also can speak, read and translate Anglo Saxon/ Old English (the language of Beowulf). I am pretty much a greenie - the environment is a big concern, I grew up on a 120 acres of bush, and I love nature.
A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step!

I have FM, and this has been my approach to life.
Only after the last tree has been cut down,
Only after the last river has been poisoned,
Only after the last fish has been caught,
Only then will the people of the world find
that money cannot be eaten.
~ The Cree Prophecy
War doesn't determine who's right: war determines who's left.
Discovery sucks. Ask the people of Hiroshima.
"In the ceileigh, makers of tea and chat create the community. In the street, cattle mart, and public house, they buy and sell, watch and march, listen and sing, and form the crowd, the population of their region....And beyond that... you have seen them, a little lost, standing alone in wordless confusion, country people, dressed neatly, poorly, on the streets of big cities. That is where the politicians and their agents, the false scholars, want them: weak, bewildered, and, above all, silent. The man who is a learned educator at the fireside, a sparkling wit in the ceileigh, a bold singer in the pub, becomes, in the gigantic milieu of the nation, silent, nearly nothing, a follower for a politician's doctrine, a statistic for a scientist's scheme, a member of the inarticulate masses. The idea is evil.. [T]o support a frantic equation of power and wealth with intelligence and verbal skill, the false scholar contrives a pyramidal picture of society with kings and madmen at its peak, a silent majority at its spreading base. Then reality is ordered to trickle down from top to bottom, from power to weakness, wealth to poverty, intelligence to stupidity, invention to imitation, light to obscurity, texts to silence. Even scholars who strive to be democratic sometimes accept the ugly metaphor and propose to study things from the bottom up. Society is not peaked like a pyramid or layered like a cake. It is composed of communities simultaneously occupying space and time at the same human level... All seem reasonable from within, strange from without, silent at a distance. The way to study people is not from the top down or the bottom up, but from the inside out, from the place where people are articulate to the place where they are not, from the place where they are in control of their destinies to they place where they are not."
~ Henry Glassie 1982:85-6
And last, but not least, a poem that rings in my heart...
My Country
by Dorothea Mackellar
The love of field and coppice,
Of green and shaded lanes.
Of ordered woods and gardens
Is running in your veins,
Strong love of grey-blue distance
Brown streams and soft dim skies
I know but cannot share it,
My love is otherwise.
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!
A stark white ring-barked forest
All tragic to the moon,
The sapphire-misted mountains,
The hot gold hush of noon.
Green tangle of the brushes,
Where lithe lianas coil,
And orchids deck the tree-tops
And ferns the warm dark soil.
Core of my heart, my country!
Her pitiless blue sky,
When sick at heart, around us,
We see the cattle die-
But then the grey clouds gather,
And we can bless again
The drumming of an army,
The steady, soaking rain.
Core of my heart, my country!
Land of the Rainbow Gold,
For flood and fire and famine,
She pays us back threefold-
Over the thirsty paddocks,
Watch, after many days,
The filmy veil of greenness
That thickens as we gaze.
An opal-hearted country,
A wilful, lavish land-
All you who have not loved her,
You will not understand-
Though earth holds many splendours,
Wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country
My homing thoughts will fly.
