This is a Cecropia Moth, isn't she beautiful! As a child we kept the cocoon of one of these amazing caterpillars, in the lower bathroom for 9 months. We thought it was dead but hung to hope...then one day while I was on the pot...heard rustling from the cocoon of course I screamed for mom & dad. That night a healthy female emerged from her long transformation. We put her in the front yard Birch tree; the next 2 days were amazing. 8 male suitors journeyed hundreds of miles to win the right in mating. If ever you find a large green funky caterpillar, do bring it inside and patiently wait for it to hatch.
