Hi everyone, I'm Stephanie Guffey. Starting in the Fall I'll return to Colorado Springs were I'll attend the University of Colorado with the intentions of getting a BA in something awesome. Yes I know! i'm so specific! Well you see my long term goal/ambition in life involves humanitarianism. I want to do something along the lines of joining the peace corps, helping to run an NGO, and working diplomatic services, teaching, or nursing with a little fun on the side like hiking the incan trail all the way to Machu Pichu where I'll mountain bike through the ruins. I know for a fact I want to learn more than one language and be able to really use it, not just learn it and let it go. I love yoga, mountain biking, rock climbing, white water rafting, and sitting in coffe shops talking politics with my close friends. They're great because we all have really strong opposing opinions in a lot of stuff but are still really close friends. I love cats and dogs, and fresh-looking green and blue colors. I love traveling partly due to my childhood as a military dependent spending 50% of my life in Germany and 50% stateside, and party due to my insatiable need to explore and jump/swing/glide off things. Right now my passion in life is Swing and Blues Dancing. If you live stateside or in Germany you can contact me about where to learn/try it out! It's some awesome classy fun with a ton of history to it.
I'm 18 years old (always been young for my level of education and group of friends) and a freckly red head. My favorite bands are Tears for Fears, Deftones, Crooked Still, Pink Floyd, Duran Duran, Muse, and Tegan and Sara. My heroes are my parents, my mom for speaking so many languages and devoting herself to raising me and my father for beings the coolest foreign area officer ever and teaching me everything from the difference between right and wrong to really bad russian jokes.
"This is what you shall do; love the earth the sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to everyone that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing unknown or known or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air of every season of every year of your life, re-examine all that you have been told in school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body..."- Whalt Whitman
What Gives Me Hope
A belief in good people, such as my close friends, and family, knowing that if I can succeed in trying to be the best I can be- so can others.
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
Rework paychecks and budgeting.
What/who changed my life and why
A Million Miles in A Hundred Days by Don Miller because it was inspiring, realistic, and ultimately life changing...I can't even begin to describe but I give out a copy at least once a year now.
