Be part of the solution.

Action alerts: Sign the petition for a global treaty on climate change. We need a global treaty to solve the climate crisis. The latest report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change gave the strongest evidence yet that we must take urgent international action in order to avoid the worst consequences of global warming. We need an international agreement on the climate crisis that is consistent with the IPCC's findings. It must cut global warming pollution sufficiently to ensure our children and their children inherit a healthy planet–not one severely damaged by the effects of climate change. Please add your name to our petition today. "I call on the elected leaders of the world to sign a global treaty that will solve the climate crisis."

Email the housing minister to ask her to prioritise building social rented housing

Email Caroline Flint to ask her to prioritise building social rented housing!

Caroline FlintThe Government has promised to build 3 million new homes. Now we need to persuade the Minister for Housing Caroline Flint MP that social rented housing should be prioritised to help those in urgent housing need.  Without this, millions will continue to suffer at the sharp end of the housing crisis.  Please email Caroline Flint MP to ensure as much pressure as possible is placed on her to prioritise social rented housing.

We are the fourth richest country in the world, and yet millions of people in Britain wake up every day in housing that is run-down, overcrowded, or dangerous. Many others have lost their home altogether. Bad housing robs us of security, health and a fair chance in life. Shelter campaigns for new laws and policies aimed at ending this national scandal. You can help by joining us to campaign at a national, regional and local level.

As a campaigner, you can choose how much you get involved. We will send you occasional emails inviting you to take part in the following sorts of actions:

Emailing central Government figures, MPs and decision makers.
Actively campaigning in your area by taking part in local meetings, demonstrations and consultations.
Writing letters to MPs, local papers and housing professionals.
Meeting local politicians to discuss problems in your area.
 Undertaking surveys and questionnaires.
Attending exclusive Shelter events, film screenings and conferences.
Here is a copy of the letter i have just sent :

Prioritise social rented homes!

Dear Caroline Flint,

Congratulations on your recent appointment as Minister for Housing.

I think it is great news that the Government has committed to build 3 million homes by 2020, a proportion of which will be socially rented, as the first step towards addressing the housing crisis. I congratulate the Government on making this promise.

When you begin to deliver these new homes, I am calling on you to prioritise social rented housing.
We must move quickly to provide decent, affordable and permanent accommodation for those who are suffering at the sharp end of the housing crisis right now - the people who clearly need help the most.
I hope you agree that this is indeed a key priority and I look forward to reading your response.

Regards,

Miss Sharon Ross.

Shelter believes everyone should have a home. We help people find and keep a home. We campaign for decent housing for all.

Bad housing wrecks lives! Stick it to bad housing and turn the Wall of Shame into a Wall of Hope!
Shelter''s vision is that everyone should have a home - somewhere decent, safe, affordable and permanent. Yet one in seven children in Britain are growing up in bad housing, and thousands of homeless households are stuck in temporary accommodation. Add your name to the wall of shame, click on a brick and add your name and message. Total number of bricks in the wall so far is: 6056. I've put a brick in the wall! you can too.
Click the link below to see my brick in the wall. http://www.wallofshame.org.uk/sendToFriend.asp?id=%7BA28C31F3-1432-472D-A4E9-5B4770A0C72E%7D

Shelter wants the Government to invest in an extra 20,000 social rented homes each year, to help put an end to the misery of homelessness and bad housing. To build a better future for more than one million homeless and badly housed children in Britain, add a personalised brick and message to Shelter's online Wall of Shame at http://www.wallofshame.org.uk/

Take Action: Tell Congress to Support Children's Health!:

Tell Congress to Support Children's Health!

More than 9 million children under five will die this year -- and every year -- from preventable and treatable diseases like pneumonia. They die because they were born in poorer countries and don't have access to simple treatments that most of us in America take for granted.

We can do something to help save these millions of young lives, and so can Congress. Members of Congress have introduced legislation called the Global Child Survival Act (H.R. 2266, S.1418) that would recommit the United States to lead the way in improving children's health by expanding funding for proven solutions like antibiotics and immunizations.

Give these 10 million children a stronger chance to live by urging your Senators and Representative to co-sponsor the Global Child Survival Act.
