En El Tiempo de la Mariposa
i care about the environment
the hungry children
the oppressed and marginalized people
the sick, the old, the poor, the downtrodden, the desaparecidos
i care about the mountains, the animals, trees, seas...
i care about my daughter's future world... and other kids' too.
are there going to be mountains for them to climb?
oceans to swim?
animals to see and enjoy?

then i realize, i have a lot in my hands...
there is so much to be done...
lots of things...
and i wish i were more.

i was so ready for the new balance power race on sunday until Ondoy decided we can't. we had to tend to our car that got so submerged in water on mother ignacia. had it towed, changed oil, and detailed. nobody was ready for ondoy's wrath and it just breaks my heart to pieces when i see images on tv. i didnt realize the extent of the damage until electricity was back on after a couple of days. my husband and i have decided to volunteer in the weekend. my office is gathering all the material support we can gather to distribute to the evacuation areas. this should change the way we look at what we consider "acts of God" - or natural disasters - that no one is untouchable.

When I cannot look at your face
I look at your feet.
Your feet of arched bone,
your hard little feet.
I know that they support you,
and that your sweet weight
rises upon them.
But I love your feet
only because they walked
upon the earth and upon
the wind and upon the waters,
until they found me.

- Pablo Neruda

We had a blast at the 2009 Gravity Games Asia this weekend. We brought both the youngest spectators and the coolest Lola to witness Connor kick some ass at the downhill race elimination heats and finals. We strategically positioned ourselves by the challenging hairpin and anxiously waited for him to make his flawless turn. He made it to the Top 5 despite the pouring rain, jetlag and lack of sleep! We are all so proud of you Connor!

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods. There is a rapture on the lonely shore. There is society, where none intrudes. By the deep sea, and music in its roar. I love not man the less, but Nature more... - Lord Byron

Two years he walks the earth. No phone, no pool, no pets, no cigarettes. Ultimate freedom. An extremist. An aesthetic voyager whose home is the road. Escaped from Atlanta. Thou shalt not return, 'cause "the West is the best." And now after two rambling years comes the final and greatest adventure. The climactic battle to kill the false being within and victoriously conclude the spiritual pilgrimage. Ten days and nights of freight trains and hitchhiking bring him to the Great White North. No longer to be poisoned by civilization he flees, and walks alone upon the land to become lost in the wild. - Alexander Supertramp May 1992

That was wild Mr. Arsonist! Doing the Milo Run on barefeet, WOW! I find that manifesto ridiculous but I can only admire you for your courage and persistence. I hope you can drop by Ocean Park and get thera-fished – let the fish cure your blistered feet. But congratulations just the same, you are one hell of a runner! I have yet to read your blog about it...

A woman is the most beautiful creation by God. You can feel her innocence in a daughter. You can feel her care in a sister. You can feel her warmth in a friend. You can feel her passion in a lover. Her dedication in a wife. Her divinity in a mother. Her blessings in a grandmother. Her heart is so tender yet so strong. HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY to my dearest MOM!

ADB’s energy review – FRAUDULENT! SHAM! and deliberately misleading ADB member-country governments and other stakeholders into commenting on a mere strategy draft that was later submitted to the ADB board for approval as a binding policy document that had already undergone public scrutiny. We demand for an official board-level inquiry over what it called “document tampering” by the ADB team managing the energy strategy review process!

Asian Development Bank (ADB) reported it sees that given the increase in electricity needs in the region, it expects coal-based generation to grow. It intends to try to negate the greenhouse effects of such coal use, however, by encouraging the adoption of cleaner technologies in the use of coal such as fluidized bed combustion, supercritical and ultrasupercritical boilers and fuel gas desulfurization. It will also support the deployment of new coal use technologies like integrated gasification combined cycle and carbon capture and storage (or sequestration), once shown to be technically feasible and economically viable.

The ADB announced in 2006 it was drafting an energy strategy paper that would operate on the energy policy it approved in 1995, which would remain unchanged and for 3 years the ADB repeatedly informed its stakeholders that the ADB's 1995 policy will be sustained and that comments will only be for the ADB strategy draft. Only to find out that last week, ADB launched an updated energy policy misleading member-countries and stakeholders. ADB obviously tampered with its own institutional policies just to favor the interests of dirty energy peddlers. The ADB's operating energy policy explicitly states that the regional bank will not support coal extraction operations unless these are for mine-to-mouth, "captive use" projects. 'Substantial' will be defined incredibly loosely. A mine-to-mouth coal-fired power project merely has to state that its power station will utilize a "substantial" portion of the coal it extracts and it can export equally substantial coal tonnage to other countries.

I SAY NO TO THE BATAAN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT!!! Let’s bury a symbol of a bitter and catastrophic past and bury everyone else who is responsible with it. Nothing is expected to come out of a heavily-indebted project such as this… US$2.3B to build it, $160B in debt and 1B to have it running again, for what? for not even a single watt? I am a part of the Filipino population who is paying $200,000/daily on interest rates for an unwanted debt, I SHOULD HAVE A SAY ON THIS!!!!
