"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud
was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."
Humanitarian, Mother Teresa, received invitations to join groups that are against war, and people also wanted her to join their anti-war rallies and other related activities. Mother Teresa did not go nor join any of these anti-war groups or events. Her response to these invitations was, "When you have a gathering or organized event FOR peace, I'll be there."
What Mother Teresa meant by this is, it is more effective to be for things. If we are against things, no matter what it is, it will not work or change anything in the same dynamic or purpose. To be for, is to make our energy flow out in a stream to nurture the things we are for. It could be for animals, the environment, people, something or some being we love, a cause we believe in, an idea, a song, etc., etc.
To be against things, puts us not in the same flow or way as being for something. Also, if we are against something, we create and tap into opposition, and this can become a habit. There are many who thrive on opposition, so why give them your energy?
To be for, we can use our energy to be effective and positive as if we were watering a thirsty plant (because then, our energy is positive and it nurtures). To be against, we only see the other view or action of a person or a group as an opponent, and this creates discord or even war. Nothing is really achieved nor gained.
Any success achieved by being against things, is a temporal illusion. Any success achieved by being for things, is a permanent reality.
Now what's the good of two strong legs
If you only run away?
And what use is the finest voice
If you've nothing good to say?
And what good is strength and muscle
If you only push and shove?
And what's the use of two good ears
If you can't hear those you love?
It's not just what you're born with,
It's what you choose to bear.
It's not how big your share is,
But how much you can share.
And it's not the fights you dreamed of,
But those you really fought.
It's not what you've been given,
It's what you do with what you've got.

The crucified planet Earth,
should it find a voice
and a sense of irony,
might now well say
of our abuse of it,
"Forgive them, Father,
They know not what they do."
The irony would be
that we know what
we are doing.
When the last living thing
has died on account of us,
how poetical it would be
if Earth could say,
in a voice floating up
from the floor
of the Grand Canyon,
"It is done."
People did not like it here.
~Kurt Vonnegut, from A Man Without A Country

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here.
