Four years ago I lost a close member of my famly in The London Bombings on 7th July 2005 or 7/7. Since retiring twelve years ago I have been busy making musical instruments and wooden handicrafts that used to sell quite well in local craft fairs. However since 7/7 I have devoted myself to furthering some of the causes that were closest to that person's heart....I live in Scotland with my wife Liz, nine rescued cats and two rescued dogs...oh and I write poetry.
Special piece created from Burr Elm for the Jigsaw Appeal and sold at aution, for funds.

* I am here because I believe in making the world a better place. * I believe in treating others with trust and respect. * I believe everyone has something to contribute.
I also believe strongly that we must not blame Islam for the events of 7th July. they were all killed by the hatred that is Fundamentalism. This is something that can infect any religion. I have read and re-read the Qur'an to try to understand these things. What I find in this Book is a religion of great beauty and understanding, where the slaughter of civilians is forbidden, where murder and suicide is forbidden. Where love for God is foremost. And where all ninety nine names for God add to our understanding of the Divine.
I hold my hand out in friendship to any Muslim in peace and love. We must build bridges of trust between us...Let us listen to each other and learn. Let us try to understand things from each point of view so that there can be more love, respect and tolerance in this world.
No Room for Hate. There is no room within my heart for revenge, fire or hate there is no room within my mind for any thoughts like these. I cannot find the words to say just how it is I feel but I know from deepest hurt I must forgiveness find. The hurt that’s been done to us cuts sore like a knife, but we must not, repay in kind what has been done to us. Instead we must try and find the way that is so hard, and reach out our loving hands to find some friendship now. There can be no more healing thing than opening wide our eyes and seeing that most other folk are really just like us. DavidNovember 2006
We are one humanity on this planet. All life is interconnected and interdependent. All share in the Universal bond of love. Love begins with self acceptance and forgiveness. With tolerance and compassion we embrace diversity. Together we make a difference through love.
For Agnes
Though we are many, We are ONE From every corner of the globe Talking all of our fabulous tongues, From every walk of life we come From East, West, North and South From every direction we come To join together as One Though we are many, we are ONE Our cultures and cosmologies differ Our customs, habits and rituals differ Our clothes, jewellery and food differ Our homes, hair and make up differ And yet for all these many differences We are the same, our cause is One Though we are many, we are ONE The way we pray, and where we pray The words we use and direction we face The gifts we bring and we receive All may seem different to the casual eye And yet there can be but one Creator Whom we have all learnt to serve Though we are many, we are One Our diversity brings many bright hues To this our land of green and grey Here our aim is wide inclusiveness Rather than other’s narrow exclusivity For to include is to honour and love To accept, welcome and to receive Though we are many, we are ONE Today, our hands are joined Our thoughts, joys and sorrows joined Our hopes and our wishes are joined Our friendships and families are joined For we come together as one To learn from each other as one Though we are many, we are ONE Written for the Culture Bazaar 2008 By David Gould
"There can be no higher calling than to be the voice of those forbidden to speak, there can be no struggle more worthy than to seek acceptance, respect and peace for all people, and there is no gift greater than the outstretched hand of friendship that shows you are not forgotten
even when imprisoned unjustly."

If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
Plant more trees and grow more vegetables and ban cluster bombs and landmines. I would make respect and tolerance degrees of citizenship and try to convert all to the ways of non-violence.
What/who changed my life and why
The Lockerbie Disaster & The London Bombings. Twice I have been affected in the actions of hatred that is terrorism. These cycles of hate have to be broken. Both times I have seen that love is greater than the hate. Love cancels out hate.
