Tribute to Ricky Dan Ferguson

A day of rest, my friend,

Sunshine’s bright rays

Warm this May day.

The weary soldier’s boots

Are empty now.

He was a brave Marine soldier

And warrior, fighting all his life

For the freedom and love of his friends.

Then he succumbed to his mortal pain,

From his day fighting in the Tet Offensive,

Firing at a sniper in the Royal Citadel, in Vietnam;

When a sniper’s weapon

 wounded him for life.

He took the drugs to end his daily pain;

Which worsened as the years passed.

His heart was bleeding tears of love

As his spirit gently left his mortal body.

Angels of light greeted him,

As he took one last look

At his now silent body.

Now, he dwells in the light of our creator,

No longer restrained by the pain

Of his mortal earthly existence.

Ricky Dan, thank you for sharing your love

And your life with me for awhile,

During your years as a brave freedom warrior.

You have given me the opportunity

and experience to know

the depths, and touch the heights

of true love known by soul mates

unlimited by human frailties.

You have reached out and made love to my spirit

While was my earthly body was quietly sleeping.

You persisted thru my dreams

To have me reach out to your best friend,

The other love of my life,

As he lives surrounded by concertina wire,

Serving an 18 years federal sentence

For growing marijuana,

Another Vietnam Marines soldier,

And warrior for our freedoms,

Who completed two tours in Vietnam,

And received a Purple Heart for his bravery.

On this Memorial Day 2009 and every day,

We should thank our U.S. soldiers, Freedom fighters,

And Veterans,

For their continuing sacrifices

To make the United States once more

The freedom loving Democracy

Our founding fathers envisioned it would be.
