My Philosophy

I have an earnest desire to save the world; to live an organic/natural sustainable lifestyle in a cohousing community that supports tribal culture, and to make a difference in as many children's lives as possible through the unschooling movement.

What/who changed my life and why

Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. My eyes have been opened and my mind has been changed. I'm a big reader and this was unlike anything I had ever experienced before. I had an unquenchable thirst for more insight into Daniel Quinn's ideals that hasn't gone away :o) This came at a particularly vulerable time in my life too. A pivotal point where I was developing a deep sense of who I was and wondering why I couldn't imagine being able to successfully raise a family and live a (sustainable) lifestyle the way I've always dreamed in our society. Now that I can hear "Mother Cultures" voice so clearly I know that I'm fully prepared to walk away from what she says and embrace a new way of living. I've also realized that what I can do to "save the world" is direct my passion for kids and teaching into an "un-conventional" teaching career, something that mimcs the idea of unschooling in a community centered approach such as the Sudbury model (my personal favorite). This is something that I stay up late at night researching on my own, as well the many other aspects of my developing and ever changing ideals. I think this is my best path for changing the most minds, and will allow me to embrace my personal values and live the most rewarding life as well. Ishmael is what started it all for me!
