||Though sometimes extroverted and outgoing on the outside, I am really an introvert, I enjoy 121 conversations of substance (I suck at small talk), I like to spend time reading, hiking with my dogs, watching movies or just watching the sunset on a sunny fall day.
I love the sound of sea waves on a beach, the squaking of seagulls and the sound of fire crackling or the sound of rain on a roof as well as the smell of blossoming lime trees. A rainbow always brings a smile to my face as does my dog with every wag of his tail there's so many small, everyday things we don't appreciate enough in life. It goes for human relationships too, we take the small important things for graned and leave them unnoticed and often express (and accept) love in empty grand gestures instead.
I am a good listener and dependable and loyal friend. I value sincerity, thoughtfulness and dependability and offer the same. I am quite serious-minded, down-to-earth and intense but I know how to enjoy and appreciate the simple things in life, I like to have a good laugh, I have sense of humor and like getting to know new things.
As for relationships of any kind, I don't take them lightly. I need to get to know the other person, dig under the surface for substance and character. And in my world, relationships take time and work, they take willingness (and ability) to communicate openly, similar core values, ability to appreciate the small things and not sweating the small stuff. Always easier said than done, huh? Well, there are bound to be ups and downs along the way but that's part of the deal whether we like it or not and I'd rather use the downs as opportunities to learn and grow (myself and the relationship) than simply quit and look elswhere only to wind up in the same place before I know it. If the foundations are strong and the friends/partners mature and willing to work through the downs, it's woth it.
I am interested animal welfare, ecology, sustainable living, psychology, sociology, photography, film, theater, politics.
I generally divide my spare time between animal welfare work, hiking or swimming and reading or watching movies. I love taking a good long hike with my dog or go for a swim after a long day of work, sometimes a good book, movie (mainly documentaries and independent movies, though I've seen Robocop as well :)), or a good theater play does the trick.
Oh, and I like music too..the selection depends on the mood but I hardly ever say no to Damien Rice, Leo Cohen, Keith Jarrett or Placebo. Also, I find instrumentals by Mihaly Vig, Clint Mansell, Abel Korzeniowski or Ennio Morricone hard to resist.
I've been to most European countries, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, I lived and traveled in the U.S. and enjoyed it all as it's been a great learning experience. I travel much less now as I have my own (rescue, senior) dog and prefer activities in which he can participate.
I am a believer in animal and human rights and have been an ethical vegetarian for 16 years. I experiment with veganism but I'm not fullly there yet.
I firmly believe that awareness and education are key to tolerance and personal development. I've volunteered in animal and homeless shelters since high-shool. For almost 4 years now, I've been running my own small dog rescue in my spare time (I have a full time commercial job). On top of providing shelter to strays, we provide work opportunities to homeless people who receive moderate wages and shelter in return. Furthermore, we focus on educational activities and work with elementary schools to promote volunteerism and integrate animal welfare as part of the curriculum. It is rewarding as well as frustrating and emotionally draining, but we ARE saving dog lives, rehoming them and educating children (and grown-ups as well) to be more responsible and compsassionate so in the end, even aftrer days I've seen so much suffering that I have no tears left to cry, I feel it's all worth it.
I feel I'm nearing a transitional period in my life where I'll need to let go of the securities of my comfortable office job and start doing something closer to my heart, My dream is to have a small farm where we would provide sanctuary not only to rescued dogs but also to farm animals, grow organic veggie food, educate kids and general public to live more self-sufficient, eco-friendly lifestyles, respecting animals, environment and other people and maybe gradually build a small veggie cafe/restaurant where people could not only eat but also learn how to cook veggie meals, meet other veg-friendly people, spend weekends...
I usually relate best to somewhat introverted, philosophical- and spiritual minded people of firm character and principles with an open mind and inner gentleness who are perceptive, thoughtful and socially aware.
