||Though sometimes extroverted and outgoing on the outside, I am really an introvert /those of you who think introvert equals shy, think again/ - I enjoy 121 conversations of substance (I suck at small talk), I like to spend time reading, hiking with my dogs, watching movies or just watching the sunset on a sunny fall day.
I love the sound of sea waves on a beach, the squawking of seagulls and the sound of fire crackling or the sound of rain on a roof as well as the smell of blossoming lime trees. A rainbow always brings a smile to my face as does my dog with every wag of his tail there's so many small, everyday things we don't appreciate enough in life. It goes for human relationships too, we take the small important things for granted and leave them unnoticed and often express (and accept) love in empty grand gestures instead.
I am a good listener and dependable and loyal friend, blunt talking, straight shooting , strong-minded, opinionated, passionate. I may come off as inapproachable and reserved at first but once I find a reason to open up, I am warm and affectionate. I value integrity, sincerity, thoughtfulness and dependability and offer the same. I am quite serious-minded, down-to-earth and intense but I know how to enjoy and appreciate the simple things in life, I like to have a good laugh, I have sense of humor and like getting to know new things.
I don't take relationships of any kind lightly. I need to get to know the other person, dig under the surface for substance and character.
I am interested animal welfare, ecology, sustainable living, psychology, sociology, photography, film, theater, politics.
I generally divide my spare time between animal welfare work, hiking or swimming and reading or watching movies. I love taking a good long hike with my dog or go for a swim after a long day of work, sometimes a good book, movie (mainly documentaries and independent movies, though I've seen Robocop as well :)), or a good theater play does the trick.
Oh, and I like music too..the selection depends on the mood but I hardly ever say no to Damien Rice, Leo Cohen, Keith Jarrett or Placebo. Also, I find instrumentals by Mihaly Vig, Clint Mansell, Abel Korzeniowski or Ennio Morricone hard to resist.
I've been to most European countries, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, I lived and traveled in the U.S. and enjoyed it all as it's been a great learning experience. I travel much less now as I have my own two dogs and prefer activities in which they can participate.
I am a believer in animal and human rights and had been an ethical vegetarian for 16 years and vegan for the past 1,5 yrs.
I firmly believe that awareness and education are key to tolerance and personal development and I'm passionate about giving back and making a difference.
I've volunteered in animal and homeless shelters since high-school. For almost 4 years now, I've been running my own dog rescue in my spare time (I have a full time commercial job). On top of providing shelter to strays, we provide work opportunities to homeless people who receive moderate wages and shelter in return. Furthermore, I focus on educational activities and work with elementary schools to promote volunteerism and integrate animal welfare as part of the curriculum.
I usually relate best to people of firm character and principles with an open mind and inner gentleness who are perceptive, thoughtful, socially aware and have activist leanings.
Ideally, it would be someone actively involved (or interested) in a cause that helps others (people, animals, environment..) so we can exchange experiences and ideas or work together on a cause and/or pursuing a similar dream together.
Guys concerned merely with their own little world and needs are a major turn-off for me while any form of activism or helping the world become a better place is always a promising start of friendship and possibly more.
oh, and a dog lover is a MUST :)
