Nothing in this world instills passion in me more than my family. They inspire me and motivate me. My "hot button" has always been the rights of every living being on this earth. I have a strong sense of justice and will fight for and defend it with conviction. That being said, I am personally interested in the following petitions that defend the rights I am so passionate about. They are still active and I hope you will sign them.
Below you will see what the inside of a modern dairy barn looks like. The cows are subjected to various indignities including shock bars set 4 inches above their backs to prevent them from dirtying their stalls. They can and do impact the health and well-being of the animals. These animals also have their tails restrained which prevents them from swishing flies away and from scratching an itch. This implements of torture are solely for the sake of convenience for the operator.
Canada prohibits the feeding of poultry manure to food producing animals and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency declares there are health hazards to both the animals that ingest it and to the humans that eat food produced this way. In spite of their research and their policy to this effect, Canada's borders are porous to meat produced in other countries that was produced this way. This is an injustice on many different levels, but I find it utterly appalling that animals should have their natural diets made unavailable so they have no choice but to eat animal waste products because it is inexpensive and needs to be disposed of.
Ah yes....family. The 10-year old shown here is our grand daughter delivering a letter (destined for our Prime Minister) to our local MP. On the petition you will see the actual letter. Our Prime Minister refused to respond to Carley's letter because of the tone and language used. If you read it, you will see that it was a tactic meant to stonewall her attempt to get answers on an issue that means something to her. I believe if we are to try to eliminate voter apathy in our youth, it starts with seriously listening to what they have to say and not treating them as insignificant.
Arsenic is a bioaccumulative heavy metal known to cause serious harm to animals and human beings in very small quantities. It is not a necessary additive for food production but is approved for daily use in food producing animals and birds. It is used to promote weight gain, reduce parasites and give meat an appealing colour. The amounts going into the food supply this way are a very well-kept secret. Many large restaurant chains knowingly source meat from organizations who use and promote the use of arsenic in feeds.
This is not an exhaustive list of the injustices that irritate me, but they are the ones that I have a personal connection with. I hope you will join me by signing these petitions to lend a voice to the voiceless.
Well, maybe not so wild......first ever woodworking project was a cedar strip canoe.......and it actually floats and navigates straight as an arrow.
