Update: 5/21/09
WE are moving to the West Coast and are camping across the country from East to West. This is the first of our adventures, but I hope that it won't be the last. I would like to meet friends along the way but have been cautioned not to visit cities. The Swine Flue is not something we wish to get or spread.
Our copy of "An Inconvenient Truth" has been donated to a friend and Ripton is engaged in several projects for a cleaner town. (We watched an 'Inconvenient Truth' last month and have made it my mission to play this in my town by the end of this month for free and offer a discussion forum to address ways in which this town and school can become a green town.)
Constantly Challenging Apathy!!
CVPS, our electric company, offers several different forms of energy; nuclear, hydro, fuel and cow power. Cow power is gaining speed in this state due to the mass abundance of cows and therefore much methane gas. This gas also contributes to global warming and, being a relatively green state to begin with, people in Vermont have realized the potential power of this gas. They figured out how to make electricity and also reuse the waste for bedding. It is a bit more expensive but we're signed up.
We only watch shows that we get on DVD from NetFlix. Quinn loves watching 'Dirty Jobs with Mike Roe' and one episode was of a farmer in Michigan (I think) who makes pots out of manure. The episode is called "Poo Pots". He first ferments the poop, then separates the liquids from solids, and uses the liquids for power and the solids for pots.
There are a plethora of environmentally ingenious alternatives out there. The only difficulty is saturating the majority of society with this information any way possible. Although the internet is becoming more popular every day, this also makes it sometimes difficult to navigate through the 'poo' to find the jewels. I endeavor to provide a place where these jewels may shine. I am forever searching for others input and would be happy to talk with anyone who has some questions, suggestions, and input.
I am a poet, author, artist, healer, mother and passionate Earth Steward.
I have been an Earth Steward all of my life. At the age of seventeen I had been working at a recycling center for five years. I have visited a recycle paper mill, bottle cleaning facility and also went to The United Nations Youth Environment Forum in 1994. These experiences prompted me to develop a new model of learning about the role humanity plays in the health of our planet. I have continued my journey to learn and offer information and education of our impact on our environment.
