I'm an adult in mid-forties who wasn't diagnosed with Asperger's (on the autisitc spectrum) until after I was 40. I also fit within the "gifted" label, but before there was any real gifted education, so, I've spent my life floundering. Add to that being an only child of a messy parenting situation, and it gets a bit complicated.
I went through a really angry phase, now, I'm in some kind of acceptance, but, it is a very lonely stage. Right now, reading, sewing, prayer, art, writing, sometimes gardening and music, are where I find my solace.
I had to make the decision whether to be angry the rest of my life or try to find a way to keep going. I'm trying the latter....not very good at it and sometimes I still get angry, but, I keep trying.
