Personal: We can't control everything that happens to and around us, but we can control the way we respond to it.
Living isn't just about being alive ... most people are just going through the motions. Living as about awareness, of life - not just our own, but of the entire community of life around us, the buzz of life that is everywhere and, yes, our own sense of being alive.
Life is about this moment, because it is the ONLY moment. The moment before is gone, the moment ahead is not here yet, and may never arrive.
"Whatever it is you might think you have, you have nothing to lose ..."
Wider: Love is the most powerful force in the universe - and the least understood.
Empowerment is just a breath - or a heartbeat away ... for each of us and all of us.
We can change the world, really very easily, the moment we collectively decide we want to.
What Gives Me Hope
The fact that people CAN change ... I have seen it over and over again.
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
Shoot all the lawyers? OK, tempting, but not really. As President, I would immediately call a press conference and announce that I was calling off the war the human race has declared against the natural world and strike a committee of the greatest and most creative minds available to determine what kind of economy (it would have to be a new model entirely) is truly sustainable and how we can begin an immediate transition to that model. It seems to me that the only economic model that can be sustainable is a local model, based on sharing od f=resources, the rejection of private property (particularly as it relates to land ownership (what a preposterous and evil concept). Perhaps local economies operating within a very, VERY loose confederation in which the local model is extended. Te principal at play here is that the economic model (local and shared) is mirrored in the political/social model so that the system functions from the bottom up rather that from the top down. In this way – and only in this way – can we begin to move from a majority rule model to a consensus model.
What/who changed my life and why
There is no single book/movie or event that has changed my life. My life is an evolving process that has been transformed by every thing I have encountered - every thing that has happened, every book I have read, whether I liked it or not - etc.
