Somebody very active in mind...but pained body makes things a little tuff. The computer became a life line for me for support and something to do like with my t shirt shops. Gives me something I love to do....and busy. I don't want pain to be a constant and working on the computer and the pictures keep my busy and not thinking too much of pain.
Or course I'd be an advocate of chronic pain. You have to be there to appreciate it. We tend to be stignatized and it's something education about pain has helped a lot.
The government gets their involvement in by deciding what drugs we can use and cannot and need to keep our voice in there and stay tuned to advocates such as American Pain Foundation. In my other life before pain I was an RN and RNC and substance abuse councelor so I have a working knowledge of pain, meds, attitudes with doctors and nurses where pain is concerned and a good working knowledge of addiction.
We are not automatic addicts as some people seem to think due to misinformation and plain ol' fashion ignorance about pain management. It's important for use to get involved in a certain amount of politics because of this. It's not the fun thing to do but.....you do what ya gotta do.
I like to make T Shirts now. Keeps me busy, out of trouble and my mind on something besides pain. Plus...it's plain fun.
I enjoy sites like Deviantart where I have pix.
And last but not least...cats. I'm hopeless here. My cats own me. They know where the bread is buttered. I am the willing slave of four felines who run my life on a day and night basis.
I have a long history with animals. Horses...adopted wild mustangs. I've had show dogs, Siberain Huskies. I've had ducks and chickens...and lizards and snakes. If it sqawks or meows or moves around on all fours I've had a relationship with it.
I've lived a very active life before the pain. I miss hiking around. I had planned to do Tai Kwon Do until I dropped dead of old age. Life has surprises that changes everything.
I make the best of it and computers have been a big part of my life. It keeps with painers like myself, new friends, my stores to work on and keep me busy. I learned to build them from scratch just so I can fix them when I need to.
One of my twins (Twins and one make three sons) is doing his second tour of duty, this time Afghanistan. First was in the Stryker Brigade and after he came home and discharged became part of Nevada National Guard and is now going to "over there" again. First Iraq and now Afghanistan. One thing about the Stryker Brigade...we have a saying...that is the support forum on The Stryker Brigade News..."Once a Stryker Mom...always a Stryker Mom". So they are supportive for me even tho it's not Strykers this time. Great people. Being a soldiers mom can be a little nerve racking but we hold it together for our soldiers.
I used to adopt and train wild horses. I was active with skiing, tai kwon do and a very busy nurse and mom....then the pain. Out of no where.
My Philosophy
What Gives Me Hope
My doctor who believes me and trusts me. My kids who are there for me. One in the Army National Guard after having been in Iraq and is now headed to Afghanistan. The other (twin) helps me with my disability and helps me where I can't help myself. Being on Morhpine around the clock I won't drive. My first born is a few states away but we are always in touch online.
