I have never been deemed ordinary, so it it not my style to have an ordinary cancer. I am not seeking sympathy or attention, just justification and education. I have Stage III recurrent melanoma and I am fighting it in every way possible. The cancer is in my right leg only, it has traveled from my foot to my groin. It started as a freckle on the inside of my right ankle that turned into a mole. I had the mole removed in 04 and found out that it was melanoma. They excised the surrounding area, and covered it with a skin graft. And every thing was "clean" until the Summer of 07, when these spots started coming up on my lower calf and my thigh. They looked like vericose veins, so I ignored them. I finallly broke down and went to the dermatologist to see if he could laser them off. He thought that the veins were thrombossed, so he sent me to a vascular specialist. The vascular Dr. said that they were not thrombossed, but tumorous. I have had 3 ILI's, Isolated Limb Infusion, in the past year(Feb.,May, Oct.), the lymph nodes in my groin removed(May 08) and a staph infection(mrsa). I am currently driving to Duke University, Durham, NC, to receive the best care possible. My attitude has changed so much over the past year, my time is marked and I would like to make the best of it. I would like to make things better here for my family and my friends, and would also like to extend my time here. I have changed my lifestyle to beat cancer: I am using natural and organic personal products, I am drinking two cups of Organic Japanese Green tea and Pomegranate Juice daily, I am eating as many raw veggies as I can stand, I am avoiding sugar, I am not eating fried food, I have cut back my meat intake, I am avoiding processed foods, I am eating Flax seed oil & low fat cottage cheese diet( except before surgery, Flax is natural blood thinner.) I will admit that I have strayed from my healthy habits( no excuses!) and that has been a nagging reminder of my failure. My cancer has advanced yet again. I will be undergoing Surgery on Feb. 6th at Duke. I will be having an ILP, Isolated Limb Perfusion, this is more invasive than an ILI. Prayers are always welcome! I will share any information you are interested in hearing in the hope that it will educate you on changing your life style for the better! As for my conservation , my family is undergoing a great change! My household has never been cleaner since I have been at home "healing." I am trying very hard to green up our cleaning habits: vinegar is my new best friend, we recycle as much as we can, We are working on a compost bin to cut down even further on our house hold waste. We have stopped buying and using paper plates, napkins, plastic disposable cutlery. I have bought reusable grocery bags. We have replaces ALL of our lightbulbs with the energy savers. We are also shutting lights off, opening blinds and curtains and enjoying the free sunshine! Our thermostat has been lowered to 68(winter & we have Kids.) We buy clothes from the Good Will, and donate our old clothes back. We buy very little "new" things, even books are second hand in our house. My husband and I both drive Used Hondas. Our footprint is shrinking! I have always been greatly moved by the bad things that are now, more than ever, disrupting our world. I have said this time and again, but we are killing our world. War, Murder, Genocide, Chemical spills, Hazardous waste, pollution, smog, inhumane acts, abuse, animal abuse, child endangerment, child abuse, sexual abuse, excessive lifestyles, and misuse of this entire planet and all of its inhabitants. We have to change before it is too late.
