Since 4/06 I've facilitated the rescue of over 1000 equines from the slaughter pipeline. They included pregnant mares, orphan foals, weanlings/yearlings, young untrained horses, riding horses, ranch horses, race horses, draft horses, ponies, mules, donkeys.

My experiences with the horses and rescues led me to create National Equine Resource Network (NERN).  NERN is an equine welfare organization, created to assist horse owners & horse rescues by providing education, resources, funding and opportunities for collaboration.

March 2011 we launched a Gelding Program, and hosted low cost gelding clinics all over CA.  The objectives of the clinics were to assist economically challenged horse owners geld their colts/stallions and to reduce the overbreeding and oversupply of horses. 

To date, we've held 20 clinics and castrated 242 horses.  A number of CA clinics are in the works for Fall 2012, and soon we'll expand the program nationally.  A template and funding will be provided to other non profit equine welfare organizations so they can host clinics in their communities.

We hope the spread of these low cost clinics will reduce the overbreeding and oversupply of horses, so that fewer horses end up neglected or sold to slaughter.
