    Newburyport, Massachusetts, the place of my birth is also
    the birthplace of the United States Coast Guard. Here is a
    view of a section of the still active Coast Guard in the city.
    It isn't very big, but it is symbolic as it is where it started. I
    tried to get my son to join the Coast Guard being he was
    born there too and his Dad was Navy, but he joined army
    instead. Thanks so much for that gorgeous Tiger comment.

    When I lived on Plum Island there was no playground for the
    children. We asked the Town to build one but they refused
    but the Officials did say if we could raise the money we could
    have one at this area seen here. A group of us women got
    together and we did all sorts of fundraisers and the 4 small
    stores put out canisters. We raised the money eventually and
    the men of the island, my husband included, put the playground
    together and the fence you see in this photo, includes fence.
    Not bad for 400 people many of them Elders and children.
