My 1992 Mercury Sable is dying and costs too much to fix. ;_;
I've had it for ten years. It's helped me cross the United States several times.
My Philosophy
Thought exists.
Change exists.
Desire for unrealized states causes suffering.
Benefit, that which decreases suffering, propagates benefit.
Harm, that which increases suffering, propagates harm.
Wisdom transforms harm to nonharm.
Ignorance transforms benefit to nonbenefit.
What Gives Me Hope
the possibility of enlightenment

What/who changed my life and why
A suicide attempt in 1999 brought an end to my college education, which I had in any case become too disillusioned with to meaningfully continue. This also brought me more closely into the mental health system, and gradually revealed to me the limits of my parents' concern for my wellbeing.
In 2004, I had the most intense experience of my life. Through meditation I managed to destroy my sense of self, and for several days was fully awakened to the truths in Buddhism. I had previously known nothing about Buddhism, but became familiar with it in a very short time. I have had very brief similar experiences since then, but never of the same magnitude. I very much wish to awaken to that level again.
Since then, I have tried to act in accordance with my beliefs as well as I can. My depression has interfered greatly. I have additionally been hurt, deceived, and neglected by many people I had believed to care about me, leading to a worsening and dismaying borderline disorder.
Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person.
- Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 3
Form is emptiness; emptiness is form.
- Heart Sutra
Not from itself,
nor from another,
nor from both,
nor without a cause,
does anything, whatever, anywhere exist.
- Nagarjuna
Joshu asked Nansen, "What is the True Way?"
Nansen answered, "Every way is the true Way."
"Can I study it?"
"The more you study, the further from the Way."
"If I don't study it, how can I know it?"
"The Way does not belong to things seen,
nor to things unseen.
It does not belong to things known,
nor to things unknown.
Do not seek it, study it, or name it.
To find yourself on it,
open yourself as wide as the sky."
"How did you learn this?"
"I was told it by the constant Tao
which inhabits all things."
- Mumon
The Tao that can be named is not the Tao.
- Lao Tzu
Work is done, then forgotten.
Therefore it lasts forever.
- Lao Tzu
(Jane English and Gia Fu Feng translation)
People are often unreasonable and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you.
Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough.
Give your best anyway.
- Mother Teresa
They will reply, "Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?"
And he will answer, "I assure you, when you refused to help the least of these, you were refusing to help me."
- Matthew 25:44-5
Through our scientific and technological genius, we have made of this world a neighborhood and yet we have not had the ethical commitment to make of it a brotherhood. But somehow, and in some way, we have got to do this. We must all learn to live together as brothers or we will all perish together as fools. We are tied together in the single garment of destiny, caught in an inescapable network of mutuality. And whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. For some strange reason I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. And you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be. This is the way God’s universe is made; this is the way it is structured.
John Donne caught it years ago and placed it in graphic terms: "No man is an island entire of itself. Every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main." And he goes on toward the end to say, "Any man’s death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind; therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee." We must see this, believe this, and live by it if we are to remain awake through a great revolution.
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Emperor Wu asked Bodhidharma, "I have funded many monasteries; what merit have I earned?"
"None whatsoever," said Bodhidharma.
"What is the principle of this holy teaching?"
"Vast emptiness, nothing holy."
"Who are you that stands before me?"
"I do not know."
