Life's short and unpredictable - might as well have fun while you can, without hurting anyone of course....
What Gives Me Hope
If I were Mayor, I'd make the world a better place by
Give the meat/dairy industry hell. Impose strict laws with fines/jail time/community service punishments for any cruelty or abuse inflicted on a pet or any "wild" animal. Set up educational centers and encourage schools and teachers to include in their science classes sections and projects which teach children and (with the educational centres)grown ups about the different environments, how they all interact and are connected, how much we rely on them, and most importantly, how we are responsible for taking care of it and the benefits(to oneself as well as to the entire world), for doing so. Support spay-and-neuter programs.
What/who changed my life and why
My mother, because without her, only God knows where I would be now...
In terms of books, probably the expose, Slaughterhouse, because even though I was already a vegan based on what I had heard, to have the bare facts and statistics laid out in front of me was a real wake up call that this had to stop, i.e., the day I opened the book is the same day I became a true activist.
Movie wise.......I'm assuming they don't mean fiction. That would have to be The Cove I guess, since it woke me up to yet another sector in our warped society where systemic and largely unrecognized animal abuse(or in this case, mass slaughter) is being encouraged by consumers and demand without many people even realizing it(and no, you don't have to be eating dolphin, even going to see dolphin shows helps keep the industry thinking that it's worth their while).
