My pet cause is aimed at making a small contribution towards realigning the humanity in all of us so that we can slow down or stop passing what ails us to future generations. It involves using newer theories in the psychology of child development & creating a kind of ultra modern knights of the table round kinship psychological cause.
Through the telling of stories, I want to pass a torch (call it a blue-print of sorts) to what may be left of future generations. It may even end up being a time-capsule-of-stories if we end up destroying our planet sooner than we all think or maybe I need to join an open-minded sustainable development community where people are prepared to weather the environmental devastation we seem to be heading for.
Our adult ways of coping with life revolve around symptoms we have that often manifest as addictions (ways we self soothe) & or control patterns (ways we control others and ourselves to feel more secure & safe in our world) such as: drug addiction, over working, not doing anything, keeping constantly busy, food addictions, shopping addictions, thirst for greed, over exercising, gambling, under exercising, excessive cleaning, no cleaning, over spending, under spending, sex addiction, refraining from sex, obsessive compulsive behaviors, alcoholism, self absorption, narcissism, thirst for power, overdoing, under-doing, thirst for violence, high anxiety, & not expressing feelings. Awhile ago I realized that certain unconscious themes keep coming up in the screenplays & stories I dabble in. I found out that the behavior of the characters in my tales were offering some alternative ways of interacting with others (especially children) that may help in a very small way make the world a better place for all of us.
So here goes: If we all dig real deep the seeds of our current environmental & economic world crisis stems from a global root--the unintentional & sometimes intentional neglect of our world's children down through history. I do not want to argue "what came first the chicken or the egg?" I'm just starting from a place I am very familiar with for the sake of starting somewhere.
These children become the adults we are today. And as adults today we have many symptoms that originated from coping mechanisms we learned in childhood.
Here's the early childhood development part:
The 1st year & the next couple of years are especially critical to a child because early needs must be consistently met by the parents or caretakers with lots of frequent contact & care such as: eye contact, being spoken to, proper nutrition, being held & healthy physical touch. It is not the time for the child to be stuck in a crib night or day or a stroller. If these early needs are not met it sets up the stage for future addictive behavior in adolescence & adulthood because the child’s emotional needs are not being addressed & this creates a kind of vacancy that the child later learns to fill falsely by going to outside substances & sources for attention & soothing & also attention deficit disorder may set in (ADD & its other forms). Our ways of coping with and controlling life have prevented us from getting along with each other & have perpetuated unfair practices in our world governments' economics & politics & has ruined our global environment. My own personal history & that of my family of origin has helped me realize after years of therapy that we are all the same in this, although degrees of symptoms certainly vary & some people's symptoms are more dangerous if they have more direct power over large number's of the world's citizens.
It also appears that we often don't seem to realize that our symptoms are not really who we are nor are they what we really need but just what we automatically focus on to fill some conscious or unconscious sense of lack. Example, if we only had this or that then we would feel truly fulfilled or if we could make ourselves or other people do this or that then we would be truly satisfied.
Everyone has an answer for what ails the world. Most people have solutions too. I hope we all can share our views & pass the baton to future generations so they don't make the same mistakes we have, so that they & our planet have a future.
"I spent a lot of years reading & opening myself up to therapists, etc. trying to understand how all the heck this stuff called us (humans) & our world happens & keeps happening. I strongly believe in updating my information when I get new convincing data, I bite the bullet & upgrade! I also believe all this stuff is no one's fault it just keeps getting passed down from one generation to another since the time of early man. The good news is there's positive stuff that gets passed down too!!" --Amaroq
Besides getting to know many fun diverse Care2 people I would also like to connect w/ folks who are open to combining modern psychology & using storytelling (books, comics, graphic novels, screenplays & or film) to make a contribution towards saving our planet's environments & realigning the humanity in all of us so that we can slow down or stop passing what ails us to future generations.
Busy converting my spec scripts into graphic novel screenplays & I'm also a painter. I've been publishing (for sale) PDF episodes of my work on Scribd but need to upgrade to e-publishing format to have access to other markets. I grew up in a working class Mexican cultural household in San Francisco's Latino district. I'm half Nicaraguan & Mexican w/ a splash of Scotch Irish.
I prefer to listen to snippets of diverse music strung together rather than a complete song.
My Philosophy
I TRY to put myself in everyone's shoes then open my mouth.
What Gives Me Hope
The simple but not easy psychological "math" of cause & effect & overcoming its obstacles.

What/who changed my life and why
1976 movie: Kings of the Road (Im Lauf der Zeit-In the Course of time) by Wim Wenders because it was the 1st time I got inkling that one's childhood & youth strongly effects who you become & how you live.
If the study to which you apply yourself has a tendency to weaken your affections, and to destroy your taste for those simple pleasures in which no alloy can possibly mix, then that study is certainly unlawful, that is to say, not befitting the humand mind. --Victor Frankenstein from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
