AN URGENT APPEAL TO SIGN PETITIONS!

Dear Friends,

We have recently created 2 very important Petitions regarding the War in Gaza. Although a Ceasefire has been agreed on today, there still remains a lot to do. We want caring people like you to help us promote these petitions which will have a great impact on the UN decisions on this conflict and also wider developments in the middle-east region. It is sad however, that the International community failed to take prompt and decisive steps to prevent the loss of innocent lives. The United Nations which was created for the holy purpose of preventing wars and conflicts and to protect the rights of every individual and community miserably failed to prevail peace in the Middle-East region. Please help us and spread the word and urge as many people ro sign and to call the UN and the Arab League to take concrete steps to prevent the recurrence of such a humanitarian crisis as in Gaza now.

Petitions

Please also urge all your friends and family to sign and show support. Txt message your friends too. Show the world that you care! For those of you who might think that this is a waste, let us tell you that if our ancestors believed the same way, our generation would not have been born into this world. So care and do all that you can to promote this cause and the petitions. They will be delivered to the targets and will make an impact on their decisions. Do not be a bystander, be a part of this campaign!

ISRAEL’S WAR ON GAZA
A Plea for Justice

The war which began in the name of the elimination of Hamas and its military machine became an all out war on the civilian population of Gaza. Despite widespread international condemnation and calls to cease the Israeli assaults on Gaza, the Zionist government carried on their military campaign. What is left is a devastated city with broken lives and broken dreams.

Although a ceasefire was agreed on the 18th of this month, Gaza is still a long way from recovery and rehabilitation. The people desperately need humanitarian aid supplies which have arrived but cannot be supplied to the needy due to strict packaging restrictions imposed by Israel and everything almost everything have to be inspected by the Israeli authorities. The aid agencies and the volunteers on the ground indicated that the delay in providing food, clothing and medical supplies would immensely deteriorate the conditions of the Gazans who have already suffered enough hardship.

The 22 day war Israel waged in Gaza has killed at least 1330 and injured 5450 more. Israel has also been accused of committing ‘war crimes’ as it violated the International Law as well as the human rights of the Palestinian people. New evidence has emerged to prove these allegations. The Amnesty International have openly accused Israel of ‘war crimes’ over its use of chemical weapons in densely populated areas of Gaza, they have also released a footage which shows the controversial ‘white phosphorous’ raining down on a UN school compound. However, the state of Israel has not so far publicly acknowledged or denied the use of the chemical. In addition to that, Israeli forces have repeatedly bombed and shelled UN and Red Crescent buildings where several civilians were seeking refuge.

Israel has blatantly disregarded the international community and the sense of its moral responsibility when they conducted this genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza. Furthermore, the Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has pledged legal protection to the troops who took part in the Gaza War which they dubbed as ‘Operation Cast Lead’. The Israeli government has set up emergency medical facilities in the name of helping the Gaza victims. And although not overtly admitted, this indicates a sense of guilty conscious on their part.

Ironically, Israel as a nation as peoples who have experienced genocide in the ranks of their generations have transformed from the victim to the perpetrator. Over 5 million Jews were persecuted (the Holocaust) by the Nazis in what the world has witnessed as the bloodiest genocide ever.

While the Israeli’s must bear responsibility for their aggression and atrocities in the Gaza War, we the international community must also take responsibility for our failure to act promptly to end the injustices that were done to the Palestinian people. We do understand that right now what Gaza most needs is aid for her recovery and rehabilitation, but steps also need to be taken to prevent the recurrence of such a disaster. That would include thorough investigations into the alleged Gaza war crimes, holding the perpetrators accountable and also by advocating for a lasting peace in the region. We also call upon the government of Israel to reopen the border crossings to enable the supply of food and other materials which will bring a sense of normalcy to the People of the Gaza strip and also call for the dismantling of Israeli settlements in the occupied region.

Therefore, we have created two very important Petitions aimed at the United Nations and the Arab League addressing this issue. Israel has defied countless UN resolutions, and its time we warn them that no one is above the law. The United Nations must take decisive steps against Israel to make it obey its rulings, a nation which owes its own existence to a UN resolution. The co-operation and commitment of the Arab world is also vital for a durable peace in the middle-east region. If the responsible organizations and authorities fail to do this, then the credibility of these organizations will seriously be undermined and the faith of ordinary people on them to deliver peace in the world would soon fade away.

Hence, please show solidarity with the Palestinian cause. Sign petitions, donate for their recovery and rehabilitation and do all that you can to help the suffering people of Gaza. Please sign the following petitions aimed at the United Nations and the Arab League. Show them that we stand united and denounce Israel’s aggression against the innocent civilians of Gaza.

Hi friends, please visit the following the http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/Stop-Israeli-Aggression link and sign the petition on Israel-Palestine conflict. I made the petition a bit earlier but due to personal reasons was unable to attend to it regularly. If you have signed earlier, simply forward it to your friends and family and help us reach the goal. The petition will close on the 24th of July.

Palestine needs our help to recover and as witnesses to the recent bloodshed that they suffered it is also our duty to see that justice is served. Although this minute effort may seem too little to face the reality of the Israeli-Palestine conflict, every single endeavour, whether voicing out your opinion, protesting or simply praying for the .....brothers and sisters of Palestine, it is a good deed in the eyes of the Lord. Unity is our strength and uniting is what we need to do now, the sooner we realise this the better! May Allah help us!

CAMPAIGN FOR JUSTICE

Assalaamu Alaikum and Hello to Everyone!

This is a Campaign for Justice aimed to raise awareness about some prisoners held in inhumane and depriving conditions in US prisons, and most importantly to gain support from caring people like you to help us fight against injustice. The more people come to know of this, the more pressure it would place on the US government to stop its abusive treatment towards prisoners and especially towards Muslim prisoners. The US constitution legally allows freedom of speech and freedom to articulate and practice one’s faith. If this is the case, it is strictly in contravention of the First Amendment Constitutional rights, that some prisoners are held on the basis of their faith or religious beliefs.

The two prisoners that we’re very concerned about right now are Dr. Afia Siddique and Syed Fahad Hashimi held in US prisons. Dr. Afia Siddique has recently been transferred to the Federal Medical Center Carswell Prison which is notorious for the ill-treatment of its inmates.

Fahad Hashimi’s hearing is on Monday May 18th @ 1:45pm
United States District Court,
500 Pearl Street, Manhattan , NY

• Please note that court hearing dates may change, please check the website before leaving to attend – www.muslimsforjustice.org

• It’s worth a read to make you aware of the injustices done to people while we walk freely and enjoy the gifts of life. So please visit www.freefahad.com or www.muslimsforjustice.org for more information.

• Another bizarre case is of Dr. Afia Siddiqui who was kidnapped in March 2003 in Karachi with her three underage children and held secretly for five years by Pakistani or US authorities without her family being told about her whereabouts. She was later transferred to Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Centre. Dr. Afia has been subjected to ‘inhumane and draconian forms’ of physical and mental abuse for five years. She was also shot in the abdomen by prison guards in early July 2008, a wound which kept bleeding still on 11th August 2008 when she was escorted into court in a wheelchair. She has also been referred to as “The Grey Ghost Lady of Bagram” and Prisoner 650 an Afghanistan prison where she was held before being flown to USA. The case came to the limelight when a British Journalist Yvonne Ridley flew to Pakistan in a whirlwind trip to highlight the plight of a women been held in US custody. She has also being referred to in the Book written by ex-Guantanamo detainee Moazzam Begg called ‘Enemy Combatant’. These are just a few facts to make you aware about the seriousness of the issue. She is currently been held in, as mentioned above in Federal Medical Center Carswell Prison. To read an article on the conditions of this particular women’s Medical Prison, please visit the link:
http://www.aclutx.org/article.php?aid=252 by Betty Brink (Fortworth Weekly) where she terms the Prison as ‘Hospital of Horrors’ - ‘Time in Carswell’s prison medical facility can be a death sentence for women prisoners.’

Please read the full article and for those non-Muslims and especially US citizens this article maybe an important read to force your government to review prison conditions not just for the Muslim prisoners held here but for your own people as well. Read the article and you will understand.

What we can do to help this unfortunate people, who are going through a living hell at this moment in their lives, let us help them by joining this cause and supporting this campaign. Please spread this message to all your friends and family, those prisoners are simply at our mercy, we are the only ones who can help them. So please do not ignore this, take a few moments to help save someone’s life, may God reward you for that! Pray for them so that they may be given a fair trial and InshaAllah for their safe release.

Keep yourselves up to date on the events and wherever possible please attend the hearings and show your support. For an educated generation like ours where we uphold civil liberties and justice above all, it is a shame if we just standby this without taking any action. So people take action now! Let us work and support a cause we believe in! Please forward this note to all contacts on Facebook, your mailing list and any other networking site you’re part of.

Thanking you for taking the time to read this and hoping that you are among those who will take action! :)

PARADISE IS AT THE FEET OF MOTHERS

A man once consulted the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) about taking part in a military campaign. The Prophet (PBUH) asked the man if his mother was still living. When told that she was alive, the Prophet (PBHM) said: "(Then) stay with her, for Paradise is at her feet." (Al-Tirmidhi)

On another occasion, the Prophet (PBHM) said: "God has forbidden for you to be undutiful to your mothers." (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

One of the things most wonderful about Islam is its emphasis on maintaining the bonds of kinship, but also the high regard in which women, particularly mothers, are held. The Quran states: "And revere the wombs that bore you, for God is ever watchful over you." (4:1)

It should be obvious that our parents deserve our utmost respect and devotion - second only to God. Speaking in the Quran, Allah states: "Show gratitude to Me and to thy parents; to Me is thy final Goal." (31:14)

The fact that God has mentioned parents in the same verse as Himself shows the extent to which we should strive in our efforts to serve the mothers and fathers who sacrificed so much for us. Doing so will help us to become better people.
In that same verse, Allah states: "We have enjoined on man (to be good) to his parents: in travail upon travail did his mother bear him."

In other words, the debt we owe to our mothers is magnified due to the difficult nature of pregnancy - not to mention the nurturing and attention paid to us in infancy.

Another narration, or "Hadith," from the life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBHM) again shows us just how much we owe to our mothers.

A man once asked the Prophet (PBHM) to whom he should show the most kindness. The Prophet (PBHM) replied: "Your mother, next your mother, next your mother, and then your father." (Sunan of Abu-Dawood) In other words, we must treat our mothers in a manner befitting their exalted position - and, again, revere the wombs that bore us.

The Arabic word for womb is "rahem." Rahem is derived from the word for mercy. In Islamic tradition, one of Allah’s 99 names is "Al-Raheem," or "the Most Merciful."

There exists, therefore, a unique connection between God and the womb. Through the womb, we get a glimpse of the Almighty's qualities and attributes. It nurtures, feeds and shelters us in the early stages of life. The womb can be viewed as one manifestation of divinity in the world.

One cannot help but make the parallel between a Loving God and a compassionate Mother. Interestingly, the Quran does not portray God as exclusively male or female. As a matter of fact, by revering our mothers, we are paying respect to God.

Each of us should appreciate what we have in our mothers. They are our teachers and our role models. Every day with them is an opportunity to grow as a person. Every day away from them is a missed opportunity.

-Courtesy of Paradise is at the Feet of Mothers = Joshua Brockwell, Cair-

So friends, never miss an opportunity to show your mothers how much they mean to you. Show them your gratitude and love for this lifetime is too short and may end before you realise it.

Happy Mother’s Day!

CAMPAIGN FOR JUSTICE

Hello everyone,

Please read the article below.

**Afghan was taken to Guantanamo aged 12-rights group**

Tue May 26, 2009 11:50am EDT
By Sayed Salahuddin

KABUL, May 26 (Reuters) - An Afghan who has spent over six years at
the U.S. military's Guantanamo Bay prison was only around 12-years-old
when he was detained, not 16 or 17 as his official record says, an
Afghan rights group said on Tuesday.

Interviews with the family of Mohammed Jawad, who like many poor
Afghans does not know his exact age or birthday, showed he was
probably not even a teenager when he was arrested in 2002, the Afghan
Independent Human Rights Commission said.

He was picked up by Afghan police in connection with a grenade attack
in Kabul in which two U.S. soldiers and their Afghan interpreter were
wounded. He was transferred to U.S. custody the same day and flown to
Guantanamo in early 2003.

Commissioner Nader Nadery said in addition to being a minor at the
time of his detention, Jawad was tortured and abused by the Afghan
police and while at the Guantanamo detention centre, located at a U.S.
naval base in Cuba.

The Commission is seeking his release and repatriation, and in the
course of looking into his case found out he was probably considerably
younger than his records showed.

"We asked his mother what was the big event close to his birth that
you can remember, any change in the president etcetera, and she said
that he was born around six months after his father's death," Nadery
told Reuters.

"We tried to explore more when his father died, and his father died
in a battle in Khost," he said.

That fighting was in 1991, according to a petition submitted to the
Afghan supreme court this month on Jawad's behalf, aiming to force
President Hamid Karzai to seek his release.

Nadry said the commission checked Jawad's mother's story,
interviewing other relatives and officials including a soldier who
commanded Jawad's father.

Major Eric Montalvo, a Pentagon-appointed U.S. Marine Corps lawyer
representing Jawad, said his client -- who may still be a teenager if
his mother's dates are correct -- should be released.

"We have a child of Afghanistan that was wrongfully taken from this
country and he needs to be returned. He was tortured, he was abused
over seven years of custody," he told a news conference in the Afghan
capital.

Nadry said the commission had raised Jawad's case with the Afghan and
U.S. governments in the past, without success.

Since joining with Afghan troops to oust the Taliban in 2001, the
U.S. has arrested thousands of suspected Taliban and al Qaeda
militants in Afghanistan. Some were then transferred to other places,
including the Guantanamo Bay prison. (Writing and additional reporting

HOW MI5 BLACKMAIL BRITISH MUSLIMS

Dear Friends,

This is an article about the MI5 allegedly blackmailing British Muslims to become their informers. If they do not agree to co-operate, the Muslims are listed as terrorists and their travel hindered together with coercive threats to their lives. For those of you who may not have time to read through the whole article, this was just a summary about it. But feel free to read through it to understand how our fellow brothers and sisters are been harassed and intimidated by the Western authorities, just because they are Muslim!

Thank you

Exclusive: How MI5 blackmails British Muslims
May 21, 2009
By Robert Verkaik, Law Editor
'Work for us or we will say you are a terrorist'

Five Muslim community workers have accused MI5 of waging a campaign
of blackmail and harassment in an attempt to recruit them as
informants.

The men claim they were given a choice of working for the Security
Service or face detention and harassment in the UK and overseas.

They have made official complaints to the police, to the body which
oversees the work of the Security Service and to their local MP Frank
Dobson. Now they have decided to speak publicly about their
experiences in the hope that publicity will stop similar tactics being
used in the future.

Intelligence gathered by informers is crucial to stopping further
terror outrages, but the men's allegations raise concerns about the
coercion of young Muslim men by the Security Service and the damage
this does to the gathering of information in the future.

Three of the men say they were detained at foreign airports on the
orders of MI5 after leaving Britain on family holidays last year.

After they were sent back to the UK, they were interviewed by MI5
officers who, they say, falsely accused them of links to Islamic
extremism. On each occasion the agents said they would lift the travel
restrictions and threat of detention in return for their co-operation.
When the men refused some of them received what they say were
intimidating phone calls and threats.

Two other Muslim men say they were approached by MI5 at their homes
after police officers posed as postmen. Each of the five men, aged
between 19 and 25, was warned that if he did not help the security
services he would be considered a terror suspect. A sixth man was held
by MI5 for three hours after returning from his honeymoon in Saudi
Arabia. He too claims he was threatened with travel restrictions if he
tried to leave the UK.

An agent who gave her name as Katherine is alleged to have made
direct threats to Adydarus Elmi, a 25-year-old cinema worker from
north London. In one telephone call she rang him at 7am to
congratulate him on the birth of his baby girl. His wife was still
seven months' pregnant and the couple had expressly told the hospital
that they did not want to know the sex of their child.

Mr Elmi further alleges: "Katherine tried to threaten me by saying,
and it still runs through my mind now: 'Remember, this won't be the
last time we ever meet.' And then during our last conversation she
explained: 'If you do not want anything to happen to your family you
will co-operate.'"

Madhi Hashi, a 19-year-old care worker from Camden, claims he was
held for 16 hours in a cell in Djibouti airport on the orders of MI5.
He alleges that when he was returned to the UK on 9 April this year he
was met by an MI5 agent who told him his terror suspect status would
remain until he agreed to work for the Security Service. He alleges
that he was to be given the job of informing on his friends by
encouraging them to talk about jihad.

Mohamed Nur, 25, a community youth worker from north London, claims
he was threatened by the Security Service after an agent gained access
to his home accompanied by a police officer posing as a postman.

"The MI5 agent said, 'Mohamed if you do not work for us we will tell
any foreign country you try to travel to that you are a suspected
terrorist.'"

Mohamed Aden, 25, a community youth worker from Camden, was also
approached by someone disguised as a postman in August last year. He
alleges an agent told him: "We're going to make your travelling harder
for you if you don't co-operate."

None of the six men, who work with disadvantaged youths at the
Kentish Town Community Organisation (KTCO), has ever been arrested for
terrorism or a terrorism-related offence.

They have repeatedly complained about their treatment to the police
and to the Investigatory Powers Tribunal, which oversees the work of
the Security Services.

In a letter to Lord Justice Mummery, who heads the tribunal,
Sharhabeel Lone, the chairman of the KTCO, said: "The only thing these
young people have in common is that they studied Arabic abroad and are
of Somali origin. They are not involved in any terrorist activity
whatsoever, nor have they ever been, and the security services are
well aware of this."

Mr Sharhabeel added: "These incidents smack of racism, Islamophobia
and all that undermines social cohesion. Threatening British citizens,
harassing them in their own country, alienating young people who have
committed no crime other than practising a particular faith and being
a different colour is a recipe for disaster.

"These disgraceful incidents have undermined 10 years of hard work
and severely impacted social cohesion in Camden. Targeting young
people that are role models for all young people in our country in
such a disparaging way demonstrates a total lack of understanding of
on-the-ground reality and can only be counter-productive.

"When people are terrorised by the very same body that is meant to
protect them, sowing fear, suspicion and division, we are on a
slippery slope to an Orwellian society."

Frank Dobson said: "To identify real suspects from the Muslim
communities MI5 must use informers. But it seems that from what I have
seen some of their methods may be counter-productive."

Last night MI5 and the police refused to discuss the men's complaints
with /The Independent/. But on its website, MI5 says it is untrue that
the Security Service harasses Muslims.

The organisation says: "We do not investigate any individuals on the
grounds of ethnicity or religious beliefs. Countering the threat from
international terrorists, including those who claim to be acting for
Islam, is the Security Service's highest priority.

"We know that attacks are being considered and planned for the UK by
al-Qai'da and associated networks. International terrorists in this
country threaten us directly through violence and indirectly through
supporting violence overseas."

It adds: "Muslims are often themselves the victims of this violence
– the series of terrorist attacks in Casablanca in May 2003 and
Riyadh in May and November 2003 illustrate this.

"The service also employs staff of all religions, including Muslims.
We are committed to recruiting a diverse range of staff from all
backgrounds so that we can benefit from their different perspectives
and experience."

MI5 and me: Three statements

*Mahdi Hashi: 'I told him: this is blackmail'*

Last month, 19-year-old Mahdi Hashi arrived at Gatwick airport to
take a plane to visit his sick grandmother in Djibouti, but as he was
checking in he was stopped by two plainclothes officers. One of the
officers identified himself as Richard and said he was working for
MI5.

Mr Hashi said: "He warned me not to get on the flight. He said
'Whatever happens to you outside the UK is not our responsibility'. I
was absolutely shocked." The agent handed Mr Hashi a piece of paper
with his name and telephone contact details and asked him to call him.

"The whole time he tried to make it seem like he was looking after
me. And just before I left them at my boarding gate I remember
'Richard' telling me 'It's your choice, mate, to get on that flight
but I advise you not to,' and then he winked at me."

When Mr Hashi arrived at Djibouti airport he was stopped at passport
control. He was then held in a room for 16 hours before being deported
back to the UK. He claims the Somali security officers told him that
their orders came from London. More than 24 hours after he first left
the UK he arrived back at Heathrow and was detained again.

"I was taken to pick up my luggage and then into a very discreet
room. 'Richard' walked in with a Costa bag with food which he said was
for me, my breakfast. He said it was them who sent me back because I
was a terror suspect." Mr Hashi, a volunteer youth leader at Kentish
Town Community Organisation in north London, alleges that the officer
made it clear that his "suspect" status and travel restrictions would
only be lifted if he agreed to co-operate with MI5. "I told him 'This
is blatant blackmail'; he said 'No, it's just proving your innocence.
By co-operating with us we know you're not guilty.'

"He said I could go and that he'd like to meet me another time,
preferably after Monday Bank Holiday. I looked at him and said
'I don't ever want to see you or hear from you again. You've ruined my
holiday, upset my family, and you nearly gave my sick grandmother in
Somalia a heart attack'."

*Adydarus Elmi: 'MI5 agent threatened my family'*

When the 23-year-old cinema worker from north London arrived at
Chicago's O'Hare airport with his pregnant wife, they were separated,
questioned and deported back to Britain.

Three days later Mr Elmi was contacted on his mobile phone and asked
to attend Charing Cross police station to discuss problems he was
having with his travel documents. "I met a man and a woman," he said.
"She said her name was Katherine and that she worked for MI5. I didn't
know what MI5 was."

For two-and-a-half hours Mr Elmi faced questions. "I felt I was being
lured into working for MI5." The contact did not stop there. Over the
following weeks he claims "Katherine" harassed him with dozens of
phone calls.

"She would regularly call my mother's home asking to speak to me," he
said. "And she would constantly call my mobile."

In one disturbing call the agent telephoned his home at 7am to
congratulate him on the birth of his baby girl. His wife was still
seven months pregnant and the couple had expressly told the hospital
that they did not want to know the sex of their child.

"Katherine tried to threaten me by saying – and it still runs
through my mind now – 'Remember, this won't be the last time we ever
meet", and then during our last conversation explained: 'If you do not
want anything to happen to your family you will co-operate'."

*Mohamed Nur*

Mohamed Nur, 25, first came into contact with MI5 early one morning
in August 2008 when his doorbell rang. Looking through his spyhole in
Camden, north London, he saw a man with a red bag who said he was a
postman.

When Mr Nur opened the door the man told him that he was in fact a
policeman and that he and his colleague wanted to talk to him. When
they sat down the second man produced ID and said that he worked for
MI5.

The agent told Mr Nur that they suspected him of being an Islamic
extremist. "I immediately said 'And where did you get such an idea?'
He replied, 'I am not permitted to discuss our sources'. I said that I
have never done anything extreme."

Mr Nur claims he was then threatened by the officer. "The MI5 agent
said, 'Mohamed, if you do not work for us we will tell any foreign
country you try to travel to that you are a suspected terrorist'."

They asked him what travel plans he had. Mr Nur said he might visit
Sweden next year for a football tournament. The agent told him he
would contact him within the next three days.

"I am not interested in meeting you ever." Mr Nur replied. As they
left, the agent said to at least consider the approach, as it was in
his best interests.

CAMPAIGN FOR JUSTICE

Ahmed Abu Ali was arrested in Medina, Saudi Arabia at the Islamic University of Medina as he was taking his final exams. Saudi mabahith (intelligence) officers arrested him at the behest of US officials and tortured him into falsely confessing to plotting to assassinate President Bush among other things. After being held for nearly two years in Saudi Arabia without any charges, Mr. Abu-Ali was transferred to the custody of the United States and charged with nine counts of conspiracy and other terrorism-related charges with a penalty of a minimum twenty years and a maximum sentence of life in prison. The judge refused to suppress the confession that was extracted under torture, and he refused to allow the defense expert witnesses testify that Mr. Abu-Ali showed signs of torture and suffered post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his abuse and torture in Saudi Arabia. The judge also allowed the government to present its own expert witnesses and to present the testimony of the Saudi guards who had tortured Mr. Abu Ali. They testified that they never tortured Mr. Abu-Ali and that Saudi Arabia does not torture anyone. The jury returned a guilty verdict on all charges after deliberating for only two days. The district judge sentenced Mr. Abu-Ali to 30 years in prison, noting his outstanding character and demeanor as well as the tremendous amount of support he has in the community. The judge also noted the fact that he had received hundreds of letters of support from the community urging the judge to give Mr. Abu-Ali the lowest sentence possible.

Following his sentencing, Mr. Abu-Ali was transferred to the Colorado supermax prison, where he is currently being held in solitary confinement. He is under lockdown for 23 hours per day, and he is not allowed any contact with the outside world except for his family and attorneys. His communication with his family is also limited.

Mr. Abu-Ali filed an appeal in the Fourth Circuit, but his sentence was upheld. The government cross-appealed and won, and the appellate court ruled that Mr. Abu-Ali’s sentence needed to be increased to a sentence of life in prison. The Supreme Court denied certiorari and refused to review his case. On May 18, 2009, the District Court in Alexandria, VA will re-sentence Mr. Abu-Ali. Ahmed Abu-Ali is now planning to file a writ of habeas corpus to challenge the constitutionality of his detention in the federal court in Alexandria, VA.

On April 17, 2006, 19 year old Ehsanul Sadequee (Shifa), an American born Muslim, was kidnapped a few days after his wedding from Bangladesh under the direction of the Bush administration and handed over to the US on alleged charges of conspiracy to provide material support to terrorism and currently awaiting trial. Stripped of his clothes and wrapped in clear plastic, the federal authorities abused and tortured him in the aircraft while extraditing to the US. For three years Shifa has been held at a Federal Prison in solitary confinement, in a very small cell the size of a bathroom with no windows or proper ventilation. For a long period, Ehsanul was denied access to information on the charges or evidence against him, and still continues to battle the lack of transparency in the government's case against him. In September 2008, Shifa received information that one of his court appointed attorneys was not working in his best interest and asked the judge to remove her. The request was denied and another inmate and client of the attorney physically assaulted and threatened Shifa in the presence of prison guards

Since October 2008, harassment, threats and physical violence were orchestrated and directed at Shifa inside the prison. He received head injuries from the assault and his request for differential diagnosis for medical treatment was ignored by prison medical staff. Since the physical violence on Shifa, his health has significantly deteriorated and he lives in fear for his life inside prison. Prolonged solitary confinement, particularly when Shifa has yet to be convicted of even the most minor offense, is torture and cruel and unusual punishment and a violation of his 8th Amendment Constitutional right. The denial of medical treatment is a violation of a basic human right. The abuses by the prison, harassment, and threats from both inmates and prison staff continue to this day, and his lawyers are working to improve the harsh conditions of his solitary confinement.

Shifa has been charged with crimes for exercising his constitutional and human rights to free speech and religious expression. He has been stripped of his rights because he was a religious and spiritual Muslim American. He is the victim of political and religious profile and discrimination instigated by the government towards Muslim Americans. The post-9/11 policies were implemented to prosecute terrorism-related charges, not against people who had actually committed crimes. At worst, innocent Muslims were targeted. Like the Bush policies of torture, illegal wiretapping and detention at Guantanamo, the “preventive conviction” of innocent Muslims in the US is a blot on the honor of America, a shame to our constitutional and legal traditions, and a continuing injustice to the Muslim Americans who were framed or overcharged, and remain in jail often under dreadful conditions.

From his plane ride return to the United States, through his incarceration, He has been subjected to physical abuse, psychological torture, and health ailments have been ignored and exacerbated by federal prison staff. While the government’s case relies substantially on innuendo and “guilt by association” Shifa’s First Amendment rights to free speech and practice his Muslim faith, his Fifth Amendment right to due process of law, and his Eighth Amendment right against cruel and unusual punishment have been violated viciously.

The Free Shifa Committee demands an investigation into the physical assault, immediate medical treatment, and improvement of the inhumane conditions of Shifa’s confinement. The Committee also requests Obama Administration to investigate the terrorism-related cases against innocent and overcharged Muslim Americans who became the scapegoats of a vengeful Bush Administration’s illegal policies. They deserve justice. Ehsanul Sadequee (Shifa) is an American born US citizen and he also deserves justice. We need your assistance in putting the pressure on the authorities to ensure the brutal conditions of confinement are alleviated from Shifa and released to his family.

About Me I care about the world I live in and about the inhabitants in it too. It's sad to see so much of cruelty and injustice in this wonderful land which god has bestowed upon us. I personally believe that there's some little bit of good still left in this world and I hope that it will survive the years to come as a guiding light to those who are in need of it!!!

She uncovered the life and plight of peoples' in the war torn Sri Lanka, Afghanistan; the Hindhu-Muslim bloodshed in India during the early 90s; the natural calamity that befell on the peoples' of Bangladesh and Indian farmers; as well as the sufferings of little children in the South Asian countries.
